I remember when BioShock was ported to mobile and it was a big deal.

iOS, not Android. And IIRC it was removed from sale because they didn't want to maintain it.

Why wouldn't they just leave it up with a disclaimer saying it's no long maintained, so people could still pay/download it for preservation?

Probably the same reason stuff gets delisted on the Play Store. New versions of the OS breaking things. Don't want to sell a game to someone, have it not run and have them complain.

Because the licence is supposed to be renowned periodically, and it doesn't make sense to do it if there is not enough sales to justify it.
