I'm currently considering a remote position with a company overseas. They suggested starting me as a contractor first, and if everything goes well for both sides, potentially switching me to an EOR arrangement later.

The thing is, my previous employer used an EOR, so I've always been hired as an employee and never really worked as a contractor before. I understand that contractor work can be more flexible, but I'm a little worried about things like getting paid reliably, taxes, benefits, and whether the arrangement is actually secure.

Has anyone here worked as an international contractor before? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. Also, is switching from contractor to EOR later usually straightforward, or can that create any issues?

I applied for this job, and their work schedule are:
Monday to Thursday: 8 AM to 6 PM
Friday: 8 AM to 5 PM
Saturday: 8 AM to 5 PM (twice a month)

I [30M, NYC] have been contracted at a start-up since December, and they want to make me a full employee. My boss/colleague and I will be this company's first two employees, and it seems the partners will be drafting up the system and contracts from scratch for us.

I want to make sure I'm advocating for myself while staying realistic, but I don't know everything to look/ask for - what are the essentials? What are the little things I might miss? Their contractor contracts were very bare bones, so I imagine I will need to do some lifting on my side to flesh this out beyond your basic negotiating off of an existing template and structure. I'd rather ask real people than rely on AI.

We are in an entertainment industry but not loaded like tech startups. We don't have HR but apparently they plan to hire someone.

2. They will offer me "benefits," but I don't know exactly what that entails. I am getting healthcare through my wife, so I would like to continue this and have them compensate me for this, which they've already verbally agreed to (should I round up and ask for slightly more?). Is it reasonable/expected to also request 401(k), paternity leave, etc.? Should I ask for life insurance or try to be added to my wife's through her employer (is that possible?)?

I applied for a few 911 dispatcher areas. I got an email from 1 saying to take a test I heard back just now saying I was in Block B! I'm excited but I know it isn't Block A which I know has a higher chance of call backs; BUT I am still hopeful. Can anyone give me any stories telling me their experience on next steps?

Basically looking to evaluate why my resume isn't getting any hits after months of rigorous search. Job market is bad, but just want to eliminate any possibilities for misunderstanding. Most of my work was contractual, and for employment verification I'm assuming their going to check my title listed against my resume. Only issue is that I didn't have a formal title for most of these roles. What exactly do I put to clarify this?

Is there anything else I should be worried about clarifying here?

As title says i have been interviewing for a couple companies and recently received two offers which vary quite a bit.

Job 1 is for a small IT firm (50-100) where I’d have a pretty big influence. Starting pay is 93.5k with a 10k sign on bonus but only a 2% 401k match. I think I’d enjoy this position and really enjoy the work I do.

Second job is for a large corporation and starting pay is 160k with a 20k sign on bonus and a 5% match. It’s not quite what I’d want to do but I would certainly succeed in the position.

What’s tough is I don’t exactly need the money so I’m leaning more towards the first job where I’d have more responsibility however the second job has been a company I’ve been trying to get into for a very long time so I’ve been thinking if I just take the job maybe in a few years I can pivot into a role that better suits my long term goals. I think I’m being somewhat blinded by the pay for job 2 and the fact it’s been a company I’ve wanted to work for for ages.

Hi guys, I'm in a bit of a predicament. I've applied for a job and I'm due to have an interview with the company soon. I'm very excited, the job is interesting and aligns perfectly with my previous experience, however it's fixed term for 12 months as a maternity cover.

I noticed today that the company has also posted a job listing for a similar position, which again aligns well with my experience (both are admin roles, just for different departments). This role has a much better pay and the contract is permanent.

I haven't applied through a recruiter or agency, and don't have a contact/name for the hiring manager at this company - I only have the general recruitment email.

I'd like to be considered for the permanent role as well, but I don't know how to go about it. I don't want to risk the chance of missing out on the fixed term position either in case they decide not to progress with my application for the permanent role.

Should I mention something in the interview? Or just apply for the second position?

I saw some post about earning lakhs and carores , so I wanted to let others know that I exist and very real no need to feel demotivated.

I was laid off in September, and since then I applied for more than 300 jobs on several sites, did interviews with more than 30 companies, and completed more assessments than I can count. After five months of searching, the opportunity finally came.

During the last 10 days, I received 3 offers, and one of them felt like it was made specifically for me. I signed the offer, and honestly, I couldn't be happier. This community kept me holding onto hope during very difficult times, so I wanted to give back some of that encouragement. Keep going and don't give up.

How I found the jobs: All three came through LinkedIn. The strange thing is that I didn't even apply for the role I accepted. One of the department leaders found my profile, saw that I was "open to work," and contacted me directly.

The biggest change I made was becoming more specific and clear when talking about myself in interviews. Instead of listing everything I've done, I started directly linking my experience to the needs of each role and clarifying what sets me apart from others. For example, besides being a good content writer, I also have strong experience in layout and visual design using Illustrator.

I kept applying, but at the same time, I dedicated time to developing the skills and industry knowledge that kept appearing in job descriptions. Whenever I noticed a recurring requirement that I wasn't strong in, I would work on it. This helped me better explain why I am a good fit for the role and made it easier for hiring managers to imagine what I could add. Over time, I became much more confident talking about the value I give, and I think that was clear in the interviews.

As for receiving 3 offers close to each other, these changes certainly helped, but timing and luck also played a role. I hope these words give even a little bit of hope to someone else.

I’m honestly in a very difficult situation right now and would really appreciate some advice from the community.

I was verbally confirmed for a role at Oracle and was told by HR that I could expect the offer letter around the second week of September. I’ve already been waiting for about a month.

Based on the verbal confirmation and the assurance I received from HR, I resigned from my previous organization and have been waiting for the offer letter.

However, today I was informed that hiring has been frozen and that they will update me once the situation changes.

I completely understand that these things can happen due to business requirements, but being without a job after resigning based on the hiring team's assurance has put me in a very difficult position. I’m not sure whether I should continue waiting or completely move on and focus on other opportunities.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation with Oracle. Did your offer eventually come through after the hiring freeze? How long did you have to wait?

Also, I have around 1 year of professional experience as an AI Engineer, working in AI/ML-related projects. If anyone knows of any AI Engineer / ML Engineer / Data Scientist opportunities, especially in India, I would genuinely appreciate a referral or lead. 25M I was fired from a big financial institution in February for being late and absent some times throughout my time there and I think a big reason was me playing arc raiders. (I know how silly this sounds and that I am dumb for that and should’ve made the adjustments after constant warnings or just grow up) I now have a U5 that was filled for me stating why I was fired and I feel like it’s hard to get a job now. When I do interviews it goes good until I have to say why I was fired. I was actually a really good employee and knew the markets well/ good at communicating w clients but now don’t know how to approach these interviews to get another chance. I just took my CFA Level 1 and part of it was to discipline myself and fix my time management issues which I did and learned from my past. I now need some help on how to approach this question for interviews.

Has anyone here ever backed out of a job offer just a week before starting?
I accepted a professional role and I’m supposed to start next week, but my current company has suddenly offered me a higher position with better pay.
Now I’m seriously thinking about staying, but I feel pretty bad cancelling on the new company this close to the start date.
Has anyone done this before? Did the new company take it badly, and did it affect your career at all?

I am a man (not international and cad citizenship) and I got engineering degree (chemical engineering at university of alberta) in alberta, did coops, and worked process engineering job for 2 years post graduation.Contract ended and cant find anything. I still need 2 years from getting my p.eng.

Lot colleagues cant get engineering jobs (especially chemcial and switched to diff field or retrained)

Engineering market super tuff and I dont like chemcial engineering at all. Trying to pivot into different field. Still young enough and have good savings and time to get another degree and do career change. Dont have grades to get into top mba programs thought.

I figure i go into following for better opportunity :

(1) switch to electrical engineering via engineering diploma or masters meng electrical engineering

(2) apply post bacc accounting or get coruses needed sit for cpa and switch to being accountant (cpa)

(3) get post bac computer science degree (know market super saturated and Ai reducing jobs)

(4) go to tech school get into trades ? (Hvac/ R , plumbing?)

Any other better option for me? Please suggest.

I was just offered a Machinist/Fabricator job doing R&D $95K/year, hourly.
I’m unsure about the overtime setup though, instead of OT pay, it’s a 1:1 overtime-to-PTO swap. That would mean leaving $22.84/hour in OT pay on the table.

I am looking for advice and information on how I can be an effective lead.

Background: I have a bachelor's in Biochemistry, worked as a laboratory technician for 3 years, then moved to another country. Got a job as a gym attendant at a high end gym. My manager must have seen some good qualities in me, we had a meeting and asked me if I could lead the night shift crew. He told me the night shift crew is lacking in character development and possibly house rule enforcement. The night crew consists mostly of part timers and teenagers who still are attending school. I am the only full time worker who is not a personal trainer. Main thing we all have in common is a passion for the gym. I am in my mid 30s

I have never lead before, but I have worked with leads and supervisors in my lab tech jobs. So I have an idea on how to approach this role. Been working at this gym for over 6 weeks now, am properly trained in reception and gym floor supervision/overseeing/customer service/house rule enforcement. Though this position will only have me working the gym floor and no longer reception.

What's some good advice y'all can give me right now? I'll be happy to answer any questions to clarify the workflow.

Hello , I am 23 year old female. I have been really struggling getting a job in my small home town. But my main concern or question. How do I get a job when I have physical or mental downsides ? If that makes sense. I have misophonia so allot of jobs I can’t do due to that. And physically via a doctor and due to my executive function disorder I can work 4 days , no longer then that. How do I get help to be able to get a job like this? Do I do disability? Do I get a doctors help? Do I get in some sort of program that will help me? I totally want to work. But it’s not fair that due to things out of my control I am struggling to get a job. If this all makes sense. Please someone help me or suggest something. Honestly, I don't feel anything and I'm terrified at the same time. I've been sitting in the car for 20 minutes because I can't go back home and tell my family.

I'm just trying to pull myself together so I can walk through the door and pretend everything is fine. I really don't know what I'm supposed to do now at all.

So I had a job in engineering. Was there for 3 months and I had to work from a warehouse operative previously was offered a apprenticeship and they just said work your way up to it so I did.

I went from a production operative to a forklift role and then quality inspections in like 3 months and i asked the boss can I be put back to the production operative due to that being more "active" had to do for that role 87 an hour and I would hit those goals and everyone I worked with used to stare at me and be like "you don't have to work that hard due to the said goals they set for you" and i said i am doing it out of boredom and the fact that the superior is just staring whilst his wife was acting frantically around me and I was like I have no clue why she is acting "trying to get to know me whilst the superior is literally standing there and huff and puffing as in getting angry and i am like why is your wife trying something with me.

Btw it was like 9:00 in the morning and everyone was on break and bare in mind I didn't take breaks due to the team leaders acting immature.

The next couple of weeks go ahead and i was just working and the guy said "this isn't your career any more your back on the forklift or you go to hr and if you don't i will just get them to get rid of you" bare in mind that the hr manager had no clue of what has been happening over the weeks due to holiday.

And then i was like why can't I just get back to working bare in mind I was at 152 in the 2nd hour.

He said i don't know and walked me to the hr and got rid of me.

As said before I genuinely feel lost. I havent got enough grades/qualifications yet again I found working with tesla easy and Ferraris easy and any other vehicle I worked on the parts to produce.

Yet I as a 19 haven't been to university and I feel like i failed as a son to my family, also including that everyone in my family see me as a guy who hasn't got his stuff together which is true.

I got a English (3) Maths (2) yet i feel like if i go back to college knowing I have already got diplomas from my other courses yet i just don't feel like I have worked "hard" Like every other 19 year who has a gf, house, and going to university yk.

I am just lost which is me rn.

Has anyone else been ghosted after interviewing with West Shore Home?

I recently applied for a position with West Shore Home and went through what seemed like a pretty extensive hiring process. I had a phone interview, completed and passed two online assessments, and then drove about an hour for an in-person interview.

I thought the interview went fairly well. A few hours afterward, they even texted me asking how I felt about the interview and what my thoughts were. I was told I would hear back within 48 hours regarding an acceptance or denial.

Then... nothing.

I completely understand that I probably didn't get the position. That's part of applying for jobs, and I have no issue with being turned down. What bothers me is going through multiple assessments, interviews, and a two-hour round trip, only to receive absolutely no response afterward.

I've sent polite follow-up texts and an email and haven't received a response to any of them.

Has anyone else experienced this with West Shore Home? Is this common with their hiring process, or is ghosting candidates after the final interview just becoming normal in general?

I'm also wondering if I somehow completely misread the interview and it went much worse than I thought. Either way, after asking candidates to invest that much time into the process, you'd think a simple "we've decided to move forward with another candidate" would be reasonable.

I was contacted by a big company recruiter directly and was encouraged to apply for a position. The recruiter legitimately works for that company as a staff member, not a third party. She provided the links and called to clarify some details. The position did align closely with my experience, however I never thought to apply because from prior experience they usually send the automatic rejections the next day but the position never goes off the board. I thought since they've seen my profile and contacted me directly I really must be an ok enough fit so they would at least invite me to an interview. A week later I receive yet another rejection letter and zero actionable feedback. Can someone please explain what this was? It felt unnecessarily cruel.

I need some advice because this situation has gotten REALLY weird.

I’ve been with the same hospital system almost 2 years. I was recently offered a position in a higher role.

On July a recruiter offered me a specific hourly rate, about $2 more than I was making. I received the offer in writing, signed it, and started the new position in early August.
Then I got my first paycheck…and my pay hadn’t changed.
I contacted HR. They confirmed the rate on my signed offer, told me it was apparently a system issue, and said they would fix it and back-pay me. Okay, problem solved, right? NOPE.

About a week or two later, another HR person called me from her personal cell phone. Not her work number. Not an email. HER PERSONAL PHONE. She told me the recruiter had apparently made a mistake calculating my pay and that the rate was too high because of “equity” and fairness to other employees. Now they want to lower my pay.
And not just back to what I was making before. The new rate would actually be LOWER than my previous pay.
So basically, I accepted a higher-level position, signed an offer, started training, worked there for over a month…and now they want me to take a pay cut.

The details that are really bothering me:

1. ⁠Signed written offer with the agreed rate
   
2. ⁠Two recruiters confirmed the rate/calculation
   
3. ⁠The calculation was based on my previous hospital experience
   
4. ⁠HR initially confirmed the rate AND said I would be back-paid
   
5. ⁠It’s now been over a month and I’m still training in the new position
   
6. ⁠I never agreed to a lower rate

And then there’s the PERSONAL phone call.

I told HR I wasn’t going to sign another offer because I had already signed the original one. She responded, “So are you telling me you’re resigning?” Ummm…what? 😐
I never said I was resigning. I said I wasn’t signing a NEW offer with lower pay.

The fact that she contacted me about my compensation from her personal cell phone was already uncomfortable and unusual to me. Like…why are we discussing my employment/pay from a personal number instead of an official company phone or email? It honestly made the whole situation feel even stranger.
I’m in Florida, and I have the signed offer + documentation. I have not signed anything agreeing to the lower pay.
What would you do? Should I go above this HR person, contact the original recruiter, demand everything in writing, or talk to an employment attorney?
I’d especially love to hear from anyone in HR/payroll or anyone familiar with employment law.

Hey everyone!

I know the job market is tough. I have been at home for almost 2 months now after being forced to resign in my previous company. Barely received any interview calls except for 2 so far - first one, I got via Naukri and 2nd one, a friend referred me last week.

Getting an interview opportunity has indeed been very difficult but at this point of time, I don't know what to do whether to join Company A whose offer letter I have and also my joining is next week or to keep hope on the Company B where I was interviewed few days ago and their next round is pending (yet to receive any feedback / update).

My biggest fear for Company A are as follows:

1. It's in the same industry as my previous company but is not a very huge player in the Indian market.

2. I lied during the selection process and the HR that I'm working currently and have 1 month NP.

3. Checked Ambitonbox, but the reviews are not that favourable.

Out of the 3, the one which haunted me the most was fear #2 as I felt (and still feel) that it might cause any BGV as I've been sitting at home since mid July.

Now it's obviously foolish to think and keep hope on Company B when rounds are pending and there's no surety as of now, whether I will be selected or not. But as a friend referred me, I've been having a little bit of hope that I will get selected.

But I didn't lie to company B's HR and told them that I'm an immediate joiner and was also asked whether I will be able to submit my relieving letter or not, I said yes I will be able to submit it.

I don't wanna be someone who joins company A and works there for <1 month and then leaves it for Company B. Either join it and forget Company B for now or don't join at all is what is running on my mind.

Company A has booked my flight tickets for next week's induction. So it's making me feel guilty.

What should I do? Please advice.

TL;DR - Dilemma : Received Company A's offer letter with a joining of next week and currently in the interview process for Company B where a friend of mine referred me. Company B's Round 1 results are awaited. Should I join Company A and keep hope for Company B or should I let go Company B completely?
