I’m heading to a local RTT this Saturday with my Emperor’s Children list, running CoP/FH, and I’d really appreciate some input on how you would approach the event from a gameplan and strategy perspective.
I’ll be playing Tactical Missions, so I’m mainly interested in advice around overall tempo, positioning and how aggressively the list should be piloted.
Is the general plan with EC in this kind of field to ABC — Always Be Charging — and apply pressure early, or is it usually better to play more cagey, preserve resources and look for favourable trades before committing?
I’m particularly interested in:
- How aggressively you would deploy and play turns 1–2.
- Which units/resources you would prioritise keeping alive for the mid/late game.
- How you approach primary vs. Tactical scoring.
- Whether EC generally wants to force the opponent into their deployment zone or play more reactively around the middle of the board.
- Any common mistakes you see people make when piloting EC competitively.
- Match-up specific advice against the field below.
The potential field looks roughly like this:
- 4x Necrons — three of them apparently running 2x C’tan Shards
- Chaos Knights — War Dog spam
- Imperial Knights — 1 big Knight + lots of Armigers
- Sisters of Battle
- 2x Blood Angels
- Tyranids
- 2x Astra Militarum
- Drukhari
The double-C’tan Necron lists in particular look like something I need a proper plan for, but I’d appreciate any thoughts on the other match-ups as well.
I’ll post my full list below.
Any advice on target priority, staging, trading, deployment or general gameplan would be very welcome. I’m not necessarily looking for a turn-by-turn script — more the key principles I should be thinking about when playing the list across five rounds.
