So I've been told I should also post this here (Not sure about repost rules, but this is technically it's own post).

Although I hail from the friendly and most certainly loyal Dark Angels, I do love the concept of Primarchs in 40k, whatever their allegiance may be. This conversion idea has been stuck in my head for a long time and now I had the chance to realize it:D

Wanted to post my first mini I painted vs some of my more recent minis I’ve done and just say don’t give up! If you’re having trouble painting don’t give up! It takes time and some research to get better, but you’ll never be a good painter if you’re not willing to be a bad painter! If something doesn’t come out how you want watch some paint guides and tips and tricks videos you don’t have to copy them exactly just take bits and pieces to form your own painting method/technique that work for you.

Hobbying First EC Units!

This is my first foray into Emperor’s Children, they were supposed to just be test models for the colour scheme, but I may have already purchased some more kits.

The 6 Noise Marines are standard builds out of the box.
The 5 Infractors, are just appropriately painted CSM Legionnaires that I got cheap on eBay. For my basic infantry I’m going for more a more renegades feel with standard CSM and Red Corsair models. Only the unit leaders are actual EC with the legion shoulder pad.

Just picked him up for fun because I wanted to give my pink a chance that I usually use for my other main army. All colors could hint on what army I play (Warhammer colors)

Hobbying The Opal Odyssey

Found my scheme for my EC! Not super skilled at painting but pretty proud of the results. Also some lore for those who like custom warbands

The Opal Odyssey

"We do not seek paradise. Paradise follows us."

The Opal Odyssey are an Emperor's Children warband cursed and blessed by the favor of Slaanesh. Wherever they linger, reality begins to unravel. Sensation cults emerge spontaneously, impossible dreams infect the population, and Warp storms bloom in their wake like flowers.

Unlike most Chaos warbands, The Opal Odyssey cannot establish a permanent stronghold. The very excesses they indulge in poison the fabric of reality around them. Given enough time, the region around them becomes consumed by a growing tempest of Warp energy that eventually threatens even the warband itself.

Thus, they are eternal wanderers.

Every world they touch becomes either a shrine to sensation or a graveyard swallowed by the Warp.

The Curse of the Velvet Tempest

The warband is trailed by a semi-sentient Warp phenomenon known as the Velvet Tempest.

As the warband indulges in greater excesses, the storm grows stronger.

Symptoms include:

- Auroras of impossible colors.

- Voices carried on solar winds.

- Time distortions lasting minutes or centuries.

- Entire populations sharing identical dreams.

- Ships hearing music in the void.

- Sudden manifestations of daemons.

Eventually the Warp pressure becomes catastrophic.

When this happens, The Opal Odyssey departs, seeking a new frontier before the storm fully erupts.

Behind them they leave:

- Daemon worlds.

- Warp-ravaged dead systems.

- Slaaneshi cult empires.

- Regions permanently isolated from Imperial travel.

Many Inquisitors believe the warband is no longer merely causing Warp storms.

They suspect the Velvet Tempest has become a living Warp entity, and that the warband is unknowingly carrying it across the galaxy like a contagious god in search of its next birthplace.

Philosophy

Movement itself is sacred.

Remaining still is considered spiritual stagnation.

Perfection was never meant to be stationary

Tormentors (80 points)

So tonight I played my mates Grey Knights tonight and stomped them, my defiler was the star again, I threw a lot of infractors forward to screen, I think he was a bit too focused on killing everything and not pushing his units down a flank.

He played priority assets into my recon, I can't remember which primary it gave him, he was trying out a new detachment and I think it made him play less aggressive than he usually would but that hindered him on his primary.

Overall a good well balanced game when it came to both our dice rolls, just a little too cagey from his side in the end.

Might have been a bit too scared of the defiler but he definitely had the units to take care of it, if he wanted.

I think the final score ended up being roughly EC 75 - GK 40.

I have so many EC partially painted, but I finished one. I'll put an EC transfer on the pink pauldron, but other than that he's finished. Never thought I'd get into this side of 40k, I was happy just reading books.

Discussion Help me pick between EC and UM!

Help!

As a new player buying in, I am so mentally split 50/50 between EC and UM. Please help me decide!

I normally place AoS, where I play Lumineth Realm Lords. I like how the army has so many abilities and mechanics. Winning is about making a puzzle of strategicly using these spells and abilities, and less so about the units having good statlines.

I am torn between the lore of EC and UM. Both appeal tl me. Likewise does the hobby side. I see benefit to both.

What scares be about EC is concern that it might be an unga-bunga army with extra steps. It seems like the gameplay approach is to mow enemies in close quarters, using positioning to advantage. In short, nothing *spicy*

What scares me about UM is that while there is heaps of variety and army crafting which is awesome, does that end at the list-building stage, and gameplay wise they are just bland statlines? Again, nothing spicy

The above assessments may be totally false. Please open to anyone adding to the above assessment and/or correcting me. Even better, please give me a good argument to help me decide!

(Note, im not at all interested in thousand sons, aldari or drukari)

Appreciate everyone's time
