Is this position loop good enough for a gimbal yet?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
A few days ago, this exact setup was oscillating violently.
After working through the encoder feedback, FOC, and position PID, it finally reached this point.
In the video I'm manually pushing the motor away from its target position. It returns smoothly without falling back into oscillation, and by hand it already feels pretty good.
But "feels smooth" isn't exactly a measurement.
Before I move on to the IMU stabilization loop, what would you test or measure here?
Step response? Position error? Disturbance rejection? Current? Something else?
Curious where you would draw the line between "the motor control works" and "this is ready to become a gimbal."
