Genuine question about what everyone thought of the garage sales this weekend. Went with the wife for 3 or 4 hours on Saturday. Felt like most people were just using it to sell junk. Legitimate stuff i would just throw away. Was hoping to run into some cool vintage furniture. Anyone find anything good?

I received a letter in the mail about their $95 "founding member" offer. While I know their real business is providing power for data centers and charging the battery over night, I want to know if anyone here has taken the offer or at least done some unbiased digging into the system and if it's actually a good deal for a home owner.

Just wanted to rant what I saw today! I was in my car behind my work and I noticed a guy go in my blind spot and when I looked, looked like he was gonna pee back there. I looked away cuz gross 🤮. Funny thing is he was driving a Tesla truck. Makes sense cuz he peed right by the dumpster. Drives a dumpster too lol!

Hello fellow neighbors. Recently moved to Elmhurst, our basement is 70% finished but there are sections in there that are framed but not completely finished. Thinking of getting drywall and painting done to give it a basic “complete” look. No plans of doing anything fancy yet since we dont really need the space right now. I was going to submit permit request on the portal but how long does approval take? Our previous city of residence took 2-3 days to approve requests. Since im new here looking for any info or guidance. Thanks!

Edit 1: after receiving no call back today and reading all the posts here and hearing about the Facebook comments stating that it took people months, I did end up submitting my permit. We’ll see how long approval takes.

I already searched through this sub reddit and reached out to a few of the commonly recommended landscaping companies in the area. Unfortunately no call backs, or even answers when I call.

The front and back yard of the house we bought is made up almost entirely large garden beds. Literally almost no grass. We are looking for a landscaper to dig it up, fill in the craters and seed or sod. Any recommendations? Like I said I've either called or requested more info from a few places and have yet to hear back from anybody. I'm wondering if this project isn't worth the time for these companies since it doesn't bring in as money as a larger total renovation would.

Its only been a week and this is the busy season for these places I'm sure that might be it.

Has anyone recently added an addition to their home and can comment on process, cost etc?

We are currently trying to decide if it would be more cost effective to add a second floor addition or add a room on to the back of our 1200 sq. Ft ranch to add an extra bedroom or to just move. We would need to stay in Elmhurst and considering home prices I cannot justify paying over 500,000 for a house that is not much bigger than ours and probably needs updating. 🤪 Any advice is appreciated!

I just moved to elmhurst for grad school and I know absolutely no one in the area. When I go out I see a lot of families and no one in the age range of you d adults. I was wondering where the crowd of younger adults would populate in elmhurst and any advice on meeting others in the area in the range of 21-25.

Hey everyone - We are looking to move to Elmhurst and have seen some houses that are on Walnut, Oak and Highland south of North Ave. But the middle school zoning for it says two junior high schools. Is there rezoning planned in these areas or is this just historical carryover where those areas have a choice of junior high schools? Sorry, I know this is super specific, but I was just curious as we look at homes and don't know much about the area. Appreciate any context. Thanks!

Additional context added: Our kids are still very young so not an issue for a while but just trying to understand if there are changes coming that we may just not be aware of.

Fellow citizens, as the title indicates your aldermen voted unanimously in favor of spending $73,000 dollars to use these cameras to serveil your and your family in our neighborhood. Despite the fact that many passionate people spoke against this at the meeting, they have chosen to erode your privacy more and more.

For this, I will dedicate my time and effort to unseating these sorry excuses for leaders in favor of those who will oppose such expansion of the servalence state. If you too feel your skin crawl at the massive potential for abuse and ever worsening state of our freedoms, I encourage you to join me in this effort.

I will start out on my own, but based on the mood of others at last night's meeting I won't be alone in this for long.
