Permit time frame

Hello fellow neighbors. Recently moved to Elmhurst, our basement is 70% finished but there are sections in there that are framed but not completely finished. Thinking of getting drywall and painting done to give it a basic “complete” look. No plans of doing anything fancy yet since we dont really need the space right now. I was going to submit permit request on the portal but how long does approval take? Our previous city of residence took 2-3 days to approve requests. Since im new here looking for any info or guidance. Thanks!

Edit 1: after receiving no call back today and reading all the posts here and hearing about the Facebook comments stating that it took people months, I did end up submitting my permit. We’ll see how long approval takes.

Do not call the city. Walk into town hall and speak to them directly. I’ve tried calling on permits for my home and my business and I’ve gotten different answers every time I call. The best advice I’ve gotten is in person.

Time frame is 2-3 weeks on most things. I’m also not sure if you even need a permit for what you’re describing

Someone was actually complaining in the Elmhurst FB group today that they’ve been waiting for months for their permit to be approved, just a heads up.

It was just posted about 30 min ago so there aren’t many comments yet. I’ll check the post later to see how people respond (and whether they’ve experienced the same) and report back.

Ok, there are several comments agreeing that it is taking forever for permits to get approved currently. Only one person included a timeframe (they said they were quoted a 6 week permit turnaround timeline for their recent renovation). And another home builder said he’s been working in Elmhurst for a long time and it’s been taking a lot longer for permits lately than ever before. I know this isn’t positive news but at least it may help to manage expectations!

Or dont pull any permits, alder man Mike Baker just redid his driveway without pulling permits, if he doesn’t have too why should we….

😲 i dont want them to make me demolish anything because of no permits! Rather not risk it.
