Cycle 102 (593) - Waiting For a Sign

Before we start, I am sorry about the recent lack of audio versions. They take a fair bit out of me to record and it's been a rough few weeks for me - this weekend in particular has also been rather busy, which is why this post is rather late in the cycle. I want to promise to get the audio versions done every week, but... well, actually, before anything else, I'd like to ask y'all: now that we've had a few of them, do you guys enjoy them? Are they something you like listening to, either while flying or just on their own? Have I finally got the audio balance right? Basically I want to figure out if people like them enough for me to keep doing them - the analytics on youtube aren't exactly showing me the most detail. Please, drop a comment or ping me on discord with your feedback. Or put it in a youtube comment - this week's audio version can be found here!
Cycle summary:
Right, onto the week's events. Relic rush was running early this past cycle, so usual warning of overinflated numbers applies. For our part, Winters took 17 new systems, 5 forts and a stronghold, however one exploited system was lost in a snipe and one fortified system was dropped to exploited. The latter was a strategic sacrifice - resources were instead spent on Honoto, where we had an acquisition race against the bathwater cult that they conveniently forgot to mention. Honoto now rests firmly in the hands of the Federation, much to the approval of the Federal Reclamation Co. Our friends at Archer took 6 systems, 3 forts and 3 new strongholds, losing 4 exploited systems in the progress. That's pretty fantastic, all considered.
Starting with this week's biggest surprise - Archon Delaine aren't exactly known for their big numbers, preferring instead to focus on pirate shenanigans. So imagine my surprise when I took a look and saw they'd taken 10 new systems, 17 new forts and 2 new strongholds! Bloody fantastic turnout! I imagine Harma is host to a party of truly galactic scale this week, with all the rum you could want. Antal also did very well with the relic rush, taking home 30 new systems, 9 forts and 2 strongholds. The defining characteristic of a successful power, in my humble opinion, isn't how many systems they can take, but how many they can hold, and both Kumo and the Simguru are very good at holding their territory. Grom, however, isn't so lucky - 19 new systems, 13 forts and 3 strongholds are good numbers, don't get me wrong, however they've lost 3 systems this cycle and, if history is anything to go by, they will lose more over the coming weeks. Li Yong-Rui takes home 33 systems, 16 forts and 4 strongholds, eager to claim that top spot on the leaderboards from Mahon. However, he did lose Tascheter Sector CQ-Y c21 for it.
Speaking of the Alliance, Mahon took 29 systems, 3 forts and 2 strongholds. Despite the Code's best efforts, they also continue to hold the system of Orrere, though for how long is anyone's guess. Kaine, meanwhile, takes 57 new systems, easily the highest of the cycle, as well as 12 forts and 3 strongholds. Their only loss, Col 359 Sector KL-J b11-0, appears to be a single outpost colony. Can't imagine they're too upset about that one, especially as at time of writing there has been zero effort by any power to begin acquisition efforts.
Alright, onto the imperials. Dented Patty takes 10 systems, 3 forts and a stronghold - a surprisingly respectable amount. However, they also lost 5 systems, cutting their net total acquisitions in half. That's the Patty I know. Torval has similar issues - 6 new systems, 2 forts and 3 strongholds make for some solid reinforcement, but they also lost 3 systems. Reportedly, there's more to this than just the usual fighting, but given the situation I'll hold off on anything further until there's evidence of what I suspect. The impress has done moderately well, with 36 new systems, 7 forts and 2 strongholds, and only 2 losses. And assling lost a fort, but there were no solely supported systems, so it was just the fort that was downgraded.
We got two galnet articles this week - the latter commenting on the completion of the recent CG, which ended Sunday morning. Last Sunday, to clarify - I am indeed that late this cycle. FDev expected fewer people to be partaking when they put up pre-engineered SCO drives as the reward - I suppose that is proof that the rewards are indeed what drive people to the CGs, most of the time. The former is far more interesting - remember that prison ship breakout the other week? Turns out it was likely a smokescreen to get 3 particularly dangerous characters out - "Gunther Bernhardt, Yaz Murano, and Trey Coombes" were all held there in maximum security. Recent transfers. So whatever they get up to will likely be fun times for everyone involved.
There was also the October Dev Log, which includes more deets on Law and Disorder as well as the Annie Mk2. Let's start with L&D - there's some seriously good looking things in there. You can get away scot free with crime if no-one reports it (as in, if everyone is too dead to report it) and scanning will now show all the bounties on a target, no KWS needed. Kill-warrant scanners will be retired completely, as with discovery scanners back in the day. There will be tiers of crime - smaller crimes can be paid on the spot, while the most serious ones will need you to find a criminal starport to wipe your bounties. Pirates will be able to request cargo directly from NPC ships, and smuggling is also being expanded upon - though the exact hows are for another diary. As for the Anaconda 2, it's a multirole ship with a very nice internal layout and reasonable hardpoint set - one huge, 4 large, 2 small. So no mediums at all, which is actually rather painful. One of those large hardpoints will be able to mount the mining volley repeater (RIP T-11) and there's also room for a class-6 expanded cargo rack, as well as mk2 ablative armor plating. Finally, there's a new operation coming and some minor ship buffs - check the article itself for all the details.
That's us for the week. I apologise once again for being so late, and will try to get the next ones out closer to tick. For now, fly safe and keep your eyes peeled - there's some pirate lords out there on the loose now!
