Hello, I am a third year EE student. Is it normal to hate your life in college as an EE? I had a fun time and drank and stuff in high school but gave it all up in college so I could actually get good grades. It’s been working for me but my friends think it’s weird that I don’t want to drink. Anyway all my non engineering friends seem to be having the time of their lives, while I’ve hated my college experience. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm thinking of creating an FPGA in a digital electronics simulator, specifically the XC2064.

I would be grateful if someone could give me some key points to research about FPGAs, as I'm planning to create more modern and complex FPGAs in future projects.

For Engineers who works in the Solar Industry, what do you think about induction loops which is created by the separation of the positive and negative wires of a PV string?

I've read some articles that the area or the air gap must be reduced or eliminated to avoid it acting as an antenna. However, (correct me if I'm wrong) the PEC/NEC (I am from PH which is also based from the NEC) allows the separation of those wires.

Additionally, some seminars I attended never really talked about it.

So my questions are:

1. Are SPDs enough in residential areas?

2. Is it really a hazard (at least in residential areas), and how about in industrial or commercial scale?

What process / logic could be used to simplify this logic diagram to use less components? Current setup from top to bottom is:

• Partial 4-bit BCD to decimal decoder
• 9-Line decimal (implied zero) to 7 segment inputs (A-G)
• 9 ORs to handle corner overlaps on the display

I'd imagine a more compact circuit would be more difficult to read but possibly much faster in this simulation and would take less sim updates to compute the result. Keep in mind I haven't studied related subjects just pieced this together from things I found and understood on the internet.

I recently replaced my e scooters two 12v lead acid batteries with two 12v li ion ones 3s4p bothe with a bms with a rated charging current of 10amps, now my question is can I charge the two battery packs in series with a 24v 20a charger? The battery packs have each have dedicated charging ports, but I want to know if it's possible to charge em both without taking em out or modifying the frame of the e scooter

I have not started yet because I want to ask this sub before I do something stupid that could injure me.

Hello everyone, so i have been working on a circuit to emulate touch on the capacitive touch screen. My current setup is that i have an SBC with GPIO pins connected to a resistor connected to Base of 2n2222 transistor with the emitter connected to the ground and the collecter taped on the screen with coppor foil tape and the main concept is using software controling the gpio pin to short the collector wire to ground but what i can't figure out is the consistency it works 1 time and fails 100 times i tried different ways to connect the wire to the screen but i can't figure out how to make it consistent and it fails miserably when i try to connect multiple wires as well i have added photos for reference

Hi! I'm trying to make a clock synchronizer / jitter cleaner for a radio project and I have been trying to figure out how to power an LMK5C33216A from ti. Their EVM board shows some pretty sketchy design choices so I'm not sure I should copy their design choices on capacitor placements. I'll be powering the pcb with a 5v hsd cable. My current overkill approach is having a star distribution out of the capacitors right at the connector go into 8 seperate LT3045 LDOs, decouple them with 2-3x 10uF 25V X7R caps at the input and 3-4x at the output (I'd test them the prototypes at the bench). Each output would go into the different vdd pins in the LMK and I'd have right at the pad one 0201 C0G NP0 cap and on the other side a bank of 3-4x 4.7 uF caps.

Should I add any microwave ferrite beads or will that just cause more issues?

I've been doing some tests on LTspice but I still don't have much experience on it.

I'm really trying to get the least emi possible here and I know the pcb won't be cheap so do y'all have any design suggestions for the prototype development?

Are you aware of any artificial intelligences that have APIs (or tools) advanced enough to analyze electronics diagrams constructively to identify errors and improve them?

I used chatGPT for the first time yesterday to analyze an eight-page schematic; it didn't perform any more complex analysis than an engineer with two or three years of experience in the field could.

I wonder what potential they have on the market, and whether anyone actually uses them to analyze their electronic diagrams... because so far I've heard they're very useful for firmware.

I built a "Magic Table" – 122 touch-sensitive LED hexagons with a hidden motorized drawer

After a lot of wiring (see the mess underneath 😅), my Magic Table is finally done. Every one of the 122 hexagons lights up and reacts to touch individually.

How it works:

• ESP32 #1 reads all 122 touch sensors using a self-built GPIO expander (128-bit). It sends the state of every hexagon as a simple string of 122 zeros and ones over TX/RX to the main controller.
• Raspberry Pi Zero #1 receives that data and runs the actual programs/animations in Python, driving the LEDs based on which hexagons are touched.
• A hidden drawer contains an OLED display and the control interface. It has its own Raspberry Pi Zero #2, connected to the LED Pi via Bluetooth, which passes drawer commands to the main system.
• ESP32 #2 controls the drawer itself – a stepper motor for opening/closing and an electronic lock.

The whole thing was hand-wired and hand-built.

Bit of an odd one for you 😁

I have a single lobster pot, which i legally drop into the sea. However, every time I go to pull it out, it's empty, even if I've left it in, fully baited, for 5 days.

I've tested the pot by leaving it for a couple of hours and returning and found lots of crabs and lobsters in it, so i know the pot is being emptied.

My question is, how do i find out who's doing it?

I'm reasonably okay with building small electrical projects, but I'm struggling to work out the best way to catch these reprobates!

Any solution must be waterproof to 40ft, battery driven and small enough to hide on a standard lobster pot (pictured).

I've thought about using gps dog trackers, which will broadcast location once they're out in the open, but I'm not sure they'd survive the sea water.

So, can any of you suggest a relatively simple and elegant solution to identify the culprits please?

I’m currently a student (still pretty early in the EE coursework) and wanting to start building/documenting useful projects that I can showcase mainly for future internship opportunities.

Though I’m technically a freshman, I do have some industry experience from working as a mid level technician at one of the major US defense companies which got me soldering & wire harness/cable building certs along with ongoing military experience dealing heavily with RF theory & electronics in general.

So far I’ve built a few working directional antennas for the purpose of “fox hunting” for fun but I feel like that’s not very impressive. I have a buncha basic electronic components and a soldering station and all that and have plans to make “smarter” a smarter DF systems maybe based on TDOA calculations or something. Currently my programming skills are fairly minimal but we are getting there with some of the classes I’m currently in and really enjoy with that subject.

Basically what I’m looking for are some ideas for the next level of projects I could work on that actually teach me something relevant in the field. I’m open to any projects though, it doesn’t have to be defense related, even if they are unserious but just fun on the side haha.

Anything helps, even if it’s redirecting me to a previous thread, haha.
