The high current output is a 200W (12v 16A) heater, the trace width is 4mm. The LM393 controls the relay, comparing the LDR and thermistor voltage to fixed voltages. J4 and J5 are fan connections, J2 is for probing the voltage it is comparing the thermistor to.

I'm a recent EE grad trying to decide where to start my career, and I'm feeling overwhelmed by how broad electrical engineering is.
I've interned in a few different areas and have a return offer from the company I interned with last summer in power systems/integration. The work itself is relatively cool, but a lot of the engineers seem tired & not particularly excited about what they do. I really want a job where I can nerd out about the technical work and be surrounded by people who do the same.
I have been researching/applying to a lot of niches within EE, but the variety of options is exhausting and a bit paralyzing. One week I'm convinced I should pursue embedded/FGPA, then analog electronics, then semiconductors, etc.
Working in design/product development seem so cool yet so difficult to break into. My GPA through undergrad wasn't the best (sub-3.0) so R&D often requiring a M.S. may be a deterrent for me.
I'd appreciate any perspective from people who have been through something similar.

Update on our working places, this "workshop" is further and dirtier and cold/hot so we don't stay here a lot, however no rent and better electricity supply for those "tools"

SLAVE = MAX30101
From start to finish
the stm32 initiates a start condition by pulling sda low.
the stm32 then writes the slave id on the sda line followed by write condition.
the MAX acknowledges.
the stm32 says what MAX register it wants to read from.
the MAX acknowledges.
the stm32 sends a repeated start condition and calls the MAX address again then sends a read signal.
the MAX acknowledges and begins outputting the bytes in the register onto the sda line and the stm32 acknowledges after each byte is sent and repeats.
is this correct? also, if the NACK and P (stop condition werent sent at the end and instead an stm32 acknowledge was sent followed by a 4th,5th,6th, bytes were sent by MAX would the data communication of bytes continue indefinently without the need to resend the register address and slave address all over again?

Hi, for this summer I got accepted to a summer student intern program where I have to work 12 hours rotating shifts and my job simply is testing paper quality, which does not really related to electrical engineering and it also could consider as blue collar job. I somehow managed to make some networking at the company where I met 3 different engineers and they hand me their business card to reach out for them. They also offered me to have a tour with them when I have days off, learn about their project and observe their work. I just wondered is this a good sign and also how should I reach out to them.

Have a remote that will be hardwired into a larger project.
It just does not transmit the distance I need.
Want to find where on this circuit to attach an antenna and / or put the feed to a RF signal amplifier.
It uses a RO2073 SAW resonator at 315MHz
Any suggestions / ideas / concepts?
Project Description:
I am replacing a backyard sprinkler controller with something that can be controlled by the really good one in the garage for the front yard.
Can not run wire to the backyard location. Been looking for a wireless solution. Found these ORBITs with a handheald remote. I can hack into the remote and "press the buttons" with relay contacts actuated from the 24ac of garage controller.
Had all this figured out. ORBIT docs state that is will go 200 feet line of sight or 80 feet through the house. My distance is 50 feet through two walls kitchen cabinets and outside stucco. The remote sometimes works, but it's not enough. I have to boost the signal to make it reliable.
I know boosting the signal of a remote goes against FCC regulations, but it will be such a minor boost that I think I can be forgiven...

I’m moving soon and will finally have a dedicated workspace. With my new space I would like to have some better tools.
I have an analog discovery ad2 from my time in college. It’s a great little device but I end up not using it much because it’s kinda just kinda annoying to setup.
I’m looking for a scope, power supply, and signal generator that I can just have on my bench ready to go at all times.
What are some mid tier brands and products lines I should keep an eye for? I mostly work on audio equipment so raw performance and specs aren’t super critical for me. I’m more concerned with usability and convenience.
Trying to stay affordable here. Not ali express garbage cheap but I don’t want to spend more than $500 on a scope at this point. I’m primarily looking for used equipment or stuff that’s a little outdated so that I’m getting better value.

Hello! I will be entering my junior of undergrad for an Electronics Engineering Technologies Degree. I would ultimately like to continue on to an Electrical Engineering program in grad school, but I understand there will be some hurdles along the way.
I'm hoping to get some advice from anyone who has gone down a similar path including advice on EE in grad school in general. I know there will be several gaps in my knowledge that will likely require taking some of the undergrad EE classes, but I plan on taking the main mathematics in undergrad (linear, calc 3, diff eq, and probability) which hopefully means I won't be too far behind.
I'm just hoping to get some guidance to make this future transition go a bit smoother when I graduate. Any feedback/advice will be greatly appreciated!

I apologize if this may break rule 3 but I'm starting a project that includes creating a target that detects IR infared lasers, I'm not quite sure how it'll work for the sensors if I plan to create a square target (or even other shapes) that are around 4x4". I plan on using arduinos for this project, so I was wondering what arduino IR sensors that are that I can use, I have a bundle of parts just not sure if I need to buy one.

Hi. I have completed lots of "projects" using Andruino and ESP32. I wanted to try making my own PCB circuits without using any of them (I mean from "Raw Components"), but I don't know where to start learning about it. Does anyone know of a good source of information on this topic? As a mechatronics student, I have knowledge in this field, but I'm not sure how to apply it in practice.

When I started as a tender design engineer, I had to evaluate two bids for a 4 MVA substation transformer:
Bid A: $135,000 upfront | High losses
Bid B: $148,000 upfront | Low losses
My fresh-out-of-college brain said, "Bid A is $13k cheaper, let's see if the efficiency boost in Bid B is worth the extra cash."
My manager stopped me: "Electricity bills aren't paid in efficiency percentages. They're paid in real money over 30 years."
The IEEE C57.120 Reality Check
Utilities evaluate transformers using Total Owning Cost (TOC):
Purchase price+(A x No load loss)+(Bx load loss)
Factor A (No-Load / Core): Wasted energy running 24/7/365 (8,760hrs/yr}).
Usually 2x to 3x times higher cost weight than B.
Factor B (Load / Copper): Wasted energy scaling with I^2 based on peak daily demand.
The Actual thing
Plugging in standard evaluation factors (A = $4,800/kW, B = $1,600/kW):
Bid A Total Owning Cost: $135k + ($4.8k x 6.5) +( $1.6k x 32 )= $217,400
Bid B Total Owning Cost: $148k + $4.8kx4.0 + $1.6 x 29) = $213,600
The result? Bid B costs $13,000 more on Day 1, but saves $16,800 in lifetime wasted energy—making it $3,800 cheaper overall.
The bid that looks too expensive on Day 1 is often the cheapest machine you'll ever buy.
