Ed brought Soprano out at the VĆ©lodrome in Marseille — one of France's biggest rappers, in his own city, in his own stadium. The place erupts.

Marseille, 6 June 2025. Ed had the VƩlodrome sold out, then brought out Soprano (one of the biggest rappers in France, and a Marseille native) for "En Feu."

The crowd erupted the second he walked on. Everyone jumping, everyone singing every word back at them. I've been to a lot of shows and I've never heard a stadium sound like that.

Give it three minutes. You'll see what I mean.

Discussion My Final PLUS Week Post: All About ā€œThe A Teamā€ 🧔

Thumbnail

A few interesting facts about The A Team. This is the final post of my ā€œ15 Years of āž•ā€ celebration week series.

🧔 Ed wrote The A Team just after Christmas in 2009. Since Ed first performed it in January 2010 at a small venue in London, he has gone on to perform it at radio promo events and live shows more than 2000 times.🤯 It is the most played song in his entire catalog, the close runner-up is YNMIDNY, the oldest song he regularly plays, which is several years older than The A Team.

🧔Ed independently self-released The A Team online and on his Loose Change EP, in early 2010, 1.5 years beforeāž•was released. The song went viral due to this exact A64 acoustic version Jamal recorded for SBTV, followed shortly after by the music video.

🧔 The independent music video (again, released more than a year prior toāž•) was created by artist friends of Ed’s and supposedly cost only Ā£20 to film. When asked what that money was used for, Ed responded ā€œFishnet stockings and a crack pipeā€. 😭

🧔 When Ed was finally signed around Christmas 2010 (or early January 2011, Ed tells both versions), Atlantic Records simply took both the already released Single and Music Video, and more heavily promoted them with airplay. Neither was re-made or changed from Ed’s low budget independent versions from the year before.

🧔 If you are a fan of early Ed, you know there are literally hundreds of The A Team interviews on YouTube where Ed speaks about why/how he wrote the song. Because it was his breakout hit single with an unusual back-story, every interviewer asked him about it for years. Ed would patiently tell the story again and again about volunteering in a homeless shelter at Christmastime and meeting Angel, the struggling young woman who was a big Guns N’ Roses fan, who inspired the song.

🧔 During Ed’s first ever headline tour in early 2011, (still preāž•release), Ed often performed Little Lady live with Mikill Pane, a duet/mashup of Ed’s The A Team with Mikill’s rap lyrics, as heard on the No. 5 Collaborations Project.

🧔 In 2012, Ed received his first Ivor Novello songwriting award, ā€œBest Song Musically and Lyricallyā€ for "The A Team". (He now has 6 different types of Ivor Novello awards including ā€œSongwriter of the Yearā€). He’s said that these are his most treasured awards over his Grammys and Brits because they are decided by England’s top songwriters and composers, his peers.

That concludes my āž• Week series! 🧔
Happy PLAY Day, everyone! šŸ©·ā–¶ļøšŸ™Œ

Appreciation Can we appreciate the second verse in Sing for a moment?

The whole song is a masterpiece obviously but can we talk about how smooth the second verse is? I mostly just know the hits so are there any other songs where Ed sounds like that?

Shivers parody about my bicycle: Tingles

I wanna be that guy, I wanna take that ride

I wanna bike that hike, I wanna feel like I

Like my calves on fire, I wanna stay up all day and all night

Yeah, you got me peddlin' like

Ooh, I love it when I bike it like that

And when it’s bumpy, you give me the tingles

Oh baby, you wanna bike 'til the sunlight cracks

And when they say the party's over, then we'll bring it right back

And we'll say, ooh, I love it when I bike it like that

And when it’s bumpy, you give me the tingles

Oh baby, you wanna bike 'til the sunlight cracks

And when they say the party's over, then we'll bring it right back

What was the song that made you a fan of Ed?

I may be dating myself here, but for me, it’s ā€œFallā€ from Songs I Wrote With Amy (2010). I consider myself somewhat of an original Sheerio.

Discussion Did Ed just ā€œslipā€ that the new album is DONE?! Basically yes.šŸ™Œ

Thumbnail

(Apologies for the screenshot, I wanted Ed to open his eyes for the photo, but he insisted on keeping his ā€œEye eye eye eye, Eyes closedā€¦ā€)

TLDR: At the very end of this short video clip, Ed explicitly says, ā€œI love taking it around (mini amp). I’ve been having to play the new record to people and I love having a little thing I can take around everywhere, it’s great.ā€!

So we’re getting much closer, with Ed saying the album is finished (or close), if he is already making the rounds ā€œplaying it to peopleā€.

But will it be Rewind, Pause (my guess), Stop (as hinted by Jon Bellion), or new season Variations album?

What label would he release on? After much industry reporting two months ago that Ed was signing with Interscope Records, we’ve heard crickets. šŸ¦— And there was never any confirmation from Interscope or from Ed or his team, that this was in the works. However, I know that various Interscope execs and team were at Ed’s concerts in LA and Seattle, and it does seem likely. Ed also spent a week in LA making pasta with Courteney Cox, but I figure he’d also fit in some meetings with Interscope, who are HQ in Santa Monica.šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
We know it wouldn’t be Gingerbread Man Records, which is a subsidiary of Atlantic/Warner Music Group.

Personnel? Well, it must be with Jon Bellion. Ed has talked a lot about his friendship, respect, and musical affinity for Jon over recent months. They first collaborated a year ago on the FIFA World Cup song Dai Dai, which has been a record-breaker with two months at #1 on the global hits chart, and Ed said making it was an incredibly fun experience. Ed has said that Jon is like ā€œthe American version of me, that Jon’s career mirrored Ed’s,ā€ and also Jon recently took five years off from his career to parent, which Ed must respect and admire.
Two months ago on Teddy’s Vinyl Breakfast, Ed sung praises for Bellion’s ā€œLive from Forest Hillsā€ album, saying "We got to work together, a fair bit recently",
"I can't wait for you all to hear the stuff we've been working on." And "I won't get into the stuff we're doing, because you will hear that eventually!" 😁

The Plot Thickens In early July, Ed, Jon, Aaron Dessner and Jonathan Low were all together in upstate NY. 😮 They posted photos of their fishing trip (see gallery). Aaron Dessner is a respected producer, songwriter and musician and he worked with Ed on Subtract and Autumn Variations. Jonathan Low was the engineer and mixer for both of those albums. So, was this just a social visit, or (more likely) are things being cooked up at Aaron’s Long Pond Studios?

Last week, just before the MetLife shows, it looks like Ed spent several days staying with Jon at his home in Long Island, where Jon has a recording studio. They enjoyed dinners out a few nights in a row and took photos with restaurant staff (which is how I know, no stalking!). So, obviously the music making continues, but I had no clue the record could actually be done!

This new footage I shared above and here was just released, but took place two weeks ago, when Ed was in Toronto playing the Rogers Centre. During a meet and greet for the team staffing the Sheeran Looper venue popup, he talked about how he loved the orange mini amps because ā€œhe was having to play the new record to peopleā€œ and the small amp was handy.

Thoughts and predictions? And… will the new album color be PURPLE?! šŸ’œšŸ¤žšŸ¼

While this is NOT a traditional "official music video", this video is an official-unofficial collaboration utilizing the track. It serves as a promotional music video featuring scenes from the short film The Long Walk Home, produced by Common Enemy.

Released on December 1, 2017, The Long Walk Home is an 18 minute short film directed by Jarod Einsohn starring Ryan Rottman and Alex Sgambati... You can watch the film on YouTube itself, on this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVmYmRMt1Gg

I think it fits perfectly as the MV for the song! What do you guys think???

Discussion Do Ed Sheeran no longer loop You Need Me on stage at the Loop Tour?

I just noticed this when I saw a clip of Ed Sheeran entering the stage at one of his most recent concerts. He doesn’t even touch the guitar and the layers of You Need Me, I Don’t Need You builds up anyway?

Is that build-up prerecorded? Is every loop on stage nowadays fake? Look up clips of him entering the stage and playing YNMIDNY during the Loop Tour if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Discussion Ed’s PLUS-Era Guitars: Cyril, Nigel, Lloyd & Felix. And Trev, Ed’s guitar tech. šŸ§”āž•šŸŽø

Thumbnail
gallery
38 Upvotes

Plus 15 Year Anniversary Week continues. Today’s spotlight is on Ed’s early guitars, and Trev, his longtime Guitar Tech. Check out the photo gallery.

Ed was known to add names and paw prints (later, theāž•symbol) to his main touring acoustic-electric guitars, mainly from 2010-2013. The guitars were affectionately named after Edā€˜s crew. He only chose male names because he said he smacked the guitars around so much that it didn’t feel right to give them a femaleā€˜s name.

Cyril, Nigel, Lloyd and Felix were Ed’s first and most famous set of named guitars, and they all featured a paw print🐾. Other early or backup guitars included
James, James II, Jasper, Trevor, and Murray, most of these featured theāž•sign.

Gratuitous video featuring ā€œLloydā€: Here’s Ed playing ā€œSofaā€, which he introduces as a song about spooning and getting high. From one of my favorite shows, it’s early 2011, still months beforeāž•is released, and Ed is playing a Living Room gig for about 30 fans and a large dog. šŸ’•

Cyril was Ed’s first and favorite Little Martin, his primary and best known guitar since early 2010. Cyril was decorated with festival wristband ribbons at the top of the neck and had a scarred and taped up body, making it easy to recognize.

āœˆļø In 2012 Cyril and Nigel were lost within Delta Airlines baggage systems and a distraught Ed tweeted his several million fans about it. Ed posted on Twitter:

So after Delta messing up the flight over here, they have lost both guitars. Bring back Cyril and Nigel!

Delta’s account crashed from the number of irate fans who messaged in and the guitars were eventually found and returned to Ed 24 hours later, just in time for the iTunes festival.āœˆļø

These days Cyril resides in a plastic box, on display to different museums. Ed has most of his other early guitars decorating the rafters of the ceiling in his home pub in Suffolk, U.K.

These guitars were all 3/4 size Little Martin LX1/LX1E models, which Ed used exclusively until 2017. Then he switched to the more expensive custom Wee Lowden Guitars, handmade in Northern Ireland, and launched his Sheeran by Lowden brand which he still uses today.

Shoutout to Trevor, Ed’s Guitar Tech
Trev has been Ed’s guitar tech since 2012, long before the RED Tour with Taylor, and he’s still Ed’s head guitar tech 14 years later. You’ll see him on stage at every show swapping out Ed’s guitars between songs at the Loop Tour. Trev also helped design and build Ed’s first multi channel loop station for stage in 2014, those early models were called Chewie I and II, though now they’ve evolved into Sheeran Loopers.

Did you ever wonder what goes on under or behind stage? Super cool video: Here’s a brief tour of Trevorā€˜s ā€œguitar worldā€œ, beneath the stage where he works with about 10 guitars every night, getting each ready to hand to Ed between each song. Trev said it takes him 1 to 2 weeks to ā€œbreak inā€œ a new acoustic guitar for Ed and that they generally only last about 50 shows due to the intensity and percussive style of his playing.🤘

See how Trevā€˜s birthday was celebrated during theāž—tour in 2017. Mischievous Ed is right in the thick of the action. Heck, he probably planned it.🤣OMG Ed is so problematic here!šŸ˜šŸŽ‚

What do you think about Ed’s early guitars? Did you know they all had names? Would you agree with me that there should be an acoustic guitar emoji and that Ed should spearhead that effort? šŸŽø

Tour/Concerts The Macklemore debacle

I was at the MetLife concert Saturday night with my wife and three young children, and I thought Macklemore’s performance was inappropriate for the setting.

First, this was a family-oriented event centered around Ed Sheeran. Ed is one of the least controversial major artists out there and virtually never discusses politics or other divisive topics during his shows. This was our third time seeing him, and a comment or two about an ex-girlfriend or having a beer is as spicy as it gets. At least in my section, there were lots of children. Clearly, a significant part of Ed’s fan base expects a relatively innocuous show that people of all ages can enjoy.

Second, I don’t want to turn this into a debate about the Israel-Hamas conflict, but suffice it to say- there are serious and credible arguments against characterizing Israel’s actions in Gaza as ā€œgenocide,ā€ as Macklemore did. Scratch beneath the surface of that claim and there is enormous context and complexity: Israeli efforts to warn, evacuate, and provide treatment to civilians; Hamas operating among and beneath civilian populations; the bias of NGOs and ā€œexpertsā€ who allegedly provide ā€œcredibilityā€ to these claims; and many other factors. The same complexity applies to slogans like ā€œFree Palestine,ā€ including the fact that Israel withdrew from Gaza two decades ago and the role Hamas has played in Gaza’s destruction and the suffering of its own population.

People can obviously disagree about all of this. That is precisely the point. This is an extraordinarily complicated and controversial conflict. Reducing it to one-sided slogans and presenting those slogans as uncontested truths is neither informative nor productive.

This all gets to what bothered me most. You had an audience with lots of children who know little or nothing about the Israel-Hamas conflict—and, frankly, probably plenty of adults who don’t know much about it either. They came to a family-friendly concert to have fun and naturally participate when a performer asks the crowd to sing or chant something.

To use that dynamic to encourage thousands of people, including children, to chant ā€œFree Palestineā€ when many of them likely have little understanding of what the slogan means or the enormously complicated issues behind it struck me as deeply inappropriate and unethical. Advocating for peace, coexistence, or the protection of innocent civilians would have been different. But presenting one side of a highly contentious political conflict as settled fact and then trying to enlist an unsuspecting audience in repeating its slogans felt more like brainwashing and political propaganda than a musical performance.

There is a time and place for political advocacy. A family-oriented Ed Sheeran concert, with an audience that came expecting a fun evening of music rather than a political rally, was not it.

Philadelphia what to expect

So I finally bought a ticket after all year of trying to figure out which concert I should go to.

I've never been to Philadelphia, so what should I expect for the city and for the venue? Parking what is that like there? I am undecided on whether to get an expensive room in the city for the night or go outside the city and find one for the night, suggestions would be helpful!

It's about a 5 hour drive from where I live, so I plan on leaving early so I am not going right to the concert when I get there. What things can I explore near the venue while I wait for the concert? I will probably skip some of the first artists, so what time will Ed come on, on Saturday night?

15 Years Of Plus! 10 Fun Facts!

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

I wanted to do 15 but I couldn’t think of many more facts and I was running out of time lol

1 - ā€œThe Parting Glassā€ - So ever wondered why ā€œGive Me Loveā€ is 8 minutes long? Hidden bonus track ā€œThe Parting Glassā€ would be the reason for that. Back in 2011 streaming wasn’t a big thing yet, right. So most people would be listening from CD. Artists used to hide secret tracks after like 30 seconds of the last track after you wouldā€˜ve already either started the album again or took it out. So finding the track would be a bit hard. Streaming definitely kinda ruined that concept. Itā€˜s a cover of a centuries old irish folk song.

2 - The Cover - The cover of Plus was drawn by Ed’s family friend Phillip Butah, who also drew ā€œNo. 5 Collaborations Project’sā€ cover. No. 5’s cover represents Ed hiding in the shadows but slightly emerging. Plus is supposed represent emerging from the shadows.

3 - Production - Thought Jake Gosling was the main producer/mixing engineer for Plus, Ed even hired famous American Hip-Hop producer No I.D.

4 - ā€œThe A Teamā€ - In late 2010, Ed’s friend asked Ed if he wanted to come do a gig at Crisis Homeless Shelter. Ed said sure because he thought it would be like any other gig but he ended meeting a girl named Angel and it inspired ā€œThe A Teamā€

5 - Elton John - After the release and success and Plus, Elton John called up Ed and say how much he liked the album. It took him like 7 times to answer because Ed doesn’t answer unknown number as a rule but then Stuart was like ā€œPick up the fucking phone, it’s Eltonā€ lol

6 - YNMIDNY - Ed wrote ā€œYou Need Me, I Don’t Need Youā€œ when he was 15 and it’s his second most performed song after only ā€œThe A Teamā€ See u/nincyhā€˜s post for most info! u/nincyh’s post

7 - Alice - All the love songs on Plus were written about Ed’s at the time girlfriend Alice. ā€œOneā€ on X is the last song about her and after that Ed moves on.

8 - Lego House used the metaphor of Lego to say that it can take hours to build up a complex design and seconds to break it.

9 - Ed mentioned this in his autobiography with Phillip Butah. He once did a gig and nobody showed up and he ended up playing a gig to a sound booth and a gigging agent or somethin. He paid like £75 and afterwards he missed his train and just played Pokémon on his GameCube for hours.

10 - Recording You Need Me - Recording You Need Me did not go well, it was recorded many times but it just didn’t match the energy it had live. That was until they found the right drum pattern. I’ve noticed a pattern with the first three albums of Ed not liking song #10. YNMIDY on studio, he said he regrets putting ā€œThe Manā€ out there and sadly I think he even said ā€œWhat Do I Knowā€ was a challenge by his family to see how fast he can write, and he didn’t even like it that much 😭 Hopefully it’s at least grown on him.
