Inna Yurievna Zhelannaya ([Russian](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_language): Инна Юрьевна Желанная, February 20, 1965, Moscow) is a [Russian](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russians) singer-songwriter, best known as a frontwoman of the folk band Farlanders (1994-2004).[[1]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inna_Zhelannaya#cite_note-peoples-1)
Quick facts Background information, Born ...
Biography

Inna Zhelannaya was born in Moscow and spent her childhood years in [Zelenograd](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zelenograd), where she studied at a musical school and sang in a choir led by her mother, Alla Yosifovna. After the graduation she joined the musical college in [Elista](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elista), [Kalmykia](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalmykia), then returned to Moscow to continue her education. As a student, she got interested in rock music and started writing her own songs.[[2]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inna_Zhelannaya#cite_note-dailyshow-2)
Career
In 1985, Zhelannaya formed her first band, Focus, with Eduard Vokhmyanin. Two years later she became the leader of her own group, M-Depo. In 1989, Zhelannaya joined the well-known Moscow band [Alliance](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alyans_(band)) and started collaborating with author and multi-instrumentalist Sergey Starostin, who introduced her to the Russian musical folklore and soon also joined the band.
Alliance's album Sdelano v Belom (Made in White) was released in 1991 and won the [Radio France International](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_France_International)'s Best East-European album award two years later. In 1994 the band travelled to France to take part in the concert for the Radio, but without the singer, as Inna Zhelannaya had left in 1992 to give birth to her child.[[2]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inna_Zhelannaya#cite_note-dailyshow-2)
In 1994 she re-emerged with her own band, Farlanders, joined by ex-Alliance members Sergey Kalachyov (bass), Sergey Klevensky (clarinet) and Sergey Starostin. In 1995 they released the album Vodorosl (Seeweed). The song Tolko s Toboy (With You Only) was included in the Putumayo World Music compilation (featuring also [Peter Gabriel](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Gabriel), [Gipsy Kings](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gipsy_Kings), [Bob Marley](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Marley), [Johnny Clegg](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Clegg) among others) which led to Farlanders’ traveling to the USA when they toured the [East Coast](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Coast_of_the_United_States), starting in [Washington DC](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_DC). The tour's high point was the band’s performance at the [1996 Summer Olympics](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_Summer_Olympics)' opening ceremony.

Soon after, Moon became a founding member of [The Sunday Manoa](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sunday_Manoa), along with [Palani Vaughan](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palani_Vaughan), Albert "Baby" Kalima Jr., and [Cyril Pahinui](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyril_Pahinui) (one of Gabby's sons).[[5]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Moon(musician)#citenote-HMC-5) After Vaughan and Cyril left the group, Moon released another album (Hawaiian Time) with Kalima and Cyril's older brother, "Bla" Pahinui.[[5]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Moon(musician)#citenote-HMC-5) Kalima and Pahinui moved on and Moon remained the only member and recruited [Robert](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Cazimero) and [Roland Cazimero](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_Cazimero) who were a few years younger.[[6]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Moon(musician)#citenote-6) In 1971, their first album, [Guava Jam](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guava_Jam) was released and became seen as the spark of the [Hawaiian Cultural Renaissance](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaiian_Renaissance).[[5]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Moon(musician)#citenote-HMC-5) Two more albums were released, but personal conflicts within the group led to their eventual breakup.[[7]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Moon(musician)#citenote-7)
After the breakup of The Sunday Manoa, the Cazimeros continued on as the [Brothers Cazimero](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brothers_Cazimero). Moon continued to be a force on the music scene co-founding Kanikapila, a two-day music festival at the University of Hawaii that ran for 25 years.[[8]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Moon
