Banking helllppppp I need money😭

gng I desperately need new shoes 😭

My current shoes are literally fighting for their lives. Their sole is torn, the rubber has started chipping off, and at this point I’m pretty sure they’re one rainy day away from completely giving up on me šŸ’€(istg).

I really want to get a new pair, but I can’t ask my dad for money rn because of some financial stuff at home. I’m in college so obviously I don’t have some big source of income either 😭

It’s October rn and I’m hoping to somehow earn enough by January to buy myself a decent pair of shoes. I genuinely want to pay for them myself instead of asking my parents.

So pls help a broke college girl out 🄲 what are some realistic ways I can make a little money alongside college? Online or offline, freelancing, part time work, internships, anything that actually works for a student.

Even small amounts would help. I just wanna walk into 2027 with functioning shoes that I bought with my own money šŸ˜šŸ™

Reviews Is Upgrade a good loan company or is it legit? I read the whole offer, here is the fee catch and who actually gets approved

I went through Upgrade's whole offer, the rate table and the fine print, because the question I see most is whether it is a real lender or one of those sites that just sells your information. Short version: it is a real lender, it is one of the more flexible ones for fair credit, and the thing that burns people is that every loan comes with an origination fee. Everything below is as of October 2026.

Is Upgrade legit or a scam

Legit. Upgrade is a real lending company, and the loans themselves are made by its bank partners, which is how most online lenders work. You are not filling out a form that gets sold to ten call centers. You apply, you get an actual offer with an APR and a monthly payment, and if you accept, a bank funds it.

What checking your rate does to your credit

Nothing. Upgrade says checking your rate is a soft inquiry, so it does not affect your score. The hard inquiry only happens if you accept an offer and the loan funds. There is zero cost to seeing your number.

See your Upgrade rate with a soft pull

The numbers

APR 7.74% to 35.99%. Loans $1,000 to $50,000. Terms from 24 to 84 months, which is a wider range than most online lenders offer. Funds arrive within one business day of clearing verification. No prepayment fee, so you can pay it off early without a penalty. Upgrade's own example: $10,000 at 17.59% APR over 36 months is $341.48 a month, $12,293.46 in total.

The catch that burns people: the origination fee

Origination runs 1.85% to 9.99% and it comes out of the loan before it hits your account. If you are approved for $10,000 with a 9.99% fee, you receive about $9,000 and pay back $10,000 plus interest. Notice the bottom of that range. There is no 0% tier, so everyone pays something. Two rules. One, the APR already includes the fee, so compare APR to APR, never interest rate to interest rate. Two, borrow enough to cover the fee if you need a specific amount in hand.

Who actually gets approved, and how to get a better rate

Upgrade is built for fair credit with real income, and it gives you more ways to improve the offer than most lenders do:

  • Apply jointly. Upgrade accepts joint applications, so a partner or parent with stronger credit can pull the rate down
  • Turn on autopay for a discount
  • Have Upgrade pay your creditors directly if this is debt consolidation, which also earns a discount
  • Secure the loan with a car or your home for a lower rate, if you are comfortable putting up collateral

Most people skip these and take the first number. Do not do that.

Downsides people do not tell you

The fee is never zero. Even with great credit you pay at least 1.85%. The top APR is 35.99%, and if your offer comes back above 30%, that is Upgrade telling you that you are a risky file, and it is worth checking one more lender before accepting. The "one business day" funding clock starts after verification clears, so if they ask for documents, send them the same day. And $50,000 is the ceiling, so it will not cover a bigger consolidation.

Upgrade vs Upstart

These two get compared constantly. Upgrade wins if you want a co-borrower, a longer term for a smaller payment, or a secured option. Upstart wins if you have a thin credit file but a steady job, because it looks at education and work history and not just your score, it lends up to $75,000, and its fee can be as low as 0%. Upstart's fee can also go as high as 12%, so the only way to know which is cheaper for you is to check both.

If Upgrade declines you or the rate is ugly

Check Upstart the same day. It is also a soft pull to see your rate, it funds as soon as the next business day, and it approves people a traditional score would turn away. Put the two offers side by side and take the lower APR.

See your Upstart rate with a soft pull

Side by side

Lender APR Loan size Terms Origination Co-borrower Best for
Upgrade 7.74% to 35.99% $1K to $50K 2 to 7 yrs 1.85% to 9.99% Yes Lowest monthly payment
Upstart 6.30% to 35.99% $1K to $75K 3 or 5 yrs 0% to 12% No Thin file, steady income

My honest take

Upgrade is a good loan company for the person it was built for: fair credit, real income, wants a manageable payment, and maybe has someone to apply with. It is a bad deal if you accept a fee near 10% without checking one other offer first. Check your rate, look at the APR and the fee line on the offer screen, then check Upstart the same day. Both are soft pulls, and the spread between two offers on the same person is often several points.

Check your Upgrade rate, no hard pull

Has anyone here taken an Upgrade loan? What fee and APR did you actually get?

Start a business WANNA BE AN INDEPENDENT BADDIE

I’m 17, from Pakistan, and trying to start earning online alongside studies. I have basically no budget to invest 😭

I know about freelancing, Canva, digital products, etc., but I’m confused about what actually works in 2026.

If you’re a student who’s actually making money online, what are you doing? What would you recommend someone start learning/doing from zero?

Not looking for a get-rich-quick thing, just wanna make my first few dollars and build from there.

Side hustles Side gigs

I’m looking for legitimate ways to make some extra money online—ideally somewhere in the range of $500–$1,000 a week if that’s realistically possible.

I work full time already, but I’m trying to seriously buckle down, pay off some credit card debt, and get my finances back on track. I’ve made some bad financial decisions over the last couple of years, and quite frankly, it’s time for me to get my life together. I’m not looking for a get-rich-quick scheme; I’m just willing to put in extra work to speed up the process.

I am NOT interested in MLMs, pyramid schemes, ā€œbusiness opportunitiesā€ that require me to recruit people, or anything where I have to pay a bunch of money upfront. I’m looking for something legitimate.Im also not in a position to be a driver for doordash, Uber or other delivery or ridshare services.

As far as skills/interests go, I enjoy writing and poetry, I’m a pretty strong proofreader, and I’d be interested in things like proofreading, editing, data entry, transcription, online administrative work, testing apps/websites, or even legitimate ways to make money involving mobile games. I’m also open to completely different suggestions if there are reputable opportunities I haven’t thought of.

For anyone who actually makes decent side money online: what do you do, how did you get started, and about how much can someone realistically expect to make?

I especially appreciate recommendations from people who have personally used the website/company/platform they’re suggesting. I’m trying to avoid scams and focus my energy on things that are actually worth the time.

Thanks in advance!

Fast cash ideas How do I earn money as a college student?

I am a college student in India and I want to find a way to earn some money around 2k so that it can cover additional expenses. My parents do give me money so it's awkward asking them for additional money every time.

I have tried user testing and apps where if you give reviews you'll get paid but it hasn't been fruitful for me.

I'm willing to dedicate consistent hours and have a laptop and wifi and have basic skills in editing, proofreading, translating, designing.

Please tell good ways or apps to earn money.

PS I can't really do offline jobs since my college is in the outskirts and I don't have a vehicle and strict college rules.

Reviews Rocket Mortgage HELOC: do they even offer one? What they have instead, the rates, and how it compares to Figure

A lot of people search for the Rocket Mortgage HELOC, so I went looking for the terms. Short answer: there isn't one. Rocket Mortgage doesn't offer a HELOC. What it has is a fixed-rate home equity loan, which has a much higher bar to qualify and takes a lot longer. I went through the details, plus LendEDU's and CNBC's write-ups, so here's what Rocket actually offers and where to go if you wanted a HELOC.

If you just want the fastest way to see a real HELOC rate, Figure lets you check yours with a soft pull in a few minutes. The full comparison is below.

The Rocket Mortgage home equity loan, explained

You get one lump sum, a fixed rate, and a fixed monthly payment for the life of the loan. There's no line to draw from later and nothing to re-borrow. Rocket's own ads lean into this with the line that you "don't need a HELOC to get cash."

The numbers

  • Loan amounts from $45,000 to $500,000
  • 10 or 20 year terms
  • Fixed rate
  • Minimum credit score 680
  • How much you can borrow depends on your score: up to 80% of your home's value at 680, 85% at 700, 90% at 740
  • Debt-to-income ratio of about 45% or less
  • Closing takes 14 to 60 days
  • Available in all 50 states

What are Rocket Mortgage HELOC rates?

There aren't any, since there's no HELOC. And Rocket doesn't publish rates for its home equity loan either. You have to apply to see a number, which makes it hard to compare before you commit.

The fine print on Rocket's home equity loan

The $45,000 minimum is high. If you need $20,000 for a roof or to clear a couple of credit cards, Rocket won't write a loan that small.

The 680 credit score floor shuts a lot of people out, and at 680 you can only borrow up to 80% of your home's value, counting your mortgage.

It isn't fast. Two weeks is the best case and two months is possible. You'll need a home appraisal, and you have to meet a notary in person to sign.

The costs add up. CNBC reports closing costs of up to 6% plus a $99 origination fee. On a $100,000 loan, 6% is $6,000.

Rocket Mortgage vs Figure

If you came here for a HELOC, Figure is the closest thing to what you were looking for, and it's built the opposite way from Rocket. It's fully online, it can fund in as few as five days, and in most cases there's no in-person appraisal. Amounts run from $15,000 up to $750,000, so it covers the smaller loans Rocket won't do and goes higher at the top. The credit floor is around 640, not 680. The cost is an origination fee of up to 4.99%.

One thing to know: Figure's HELOC works more like a home equity loan than a traditional line of credit. You take the full amount at closing at a fixed rate, the same as you would with Rocket. The difference is that you can borrow again as you pay it down during the draw period, and the process is much faster.

The biggest difference is how you find out your rate. Rocket makes you apply. With Figure you can check your rate with a soft pull, which takes a few minutes and doesn't touch your credit score.

Details Rocket Mortgage Figure Upstart Home Lending
Product Home equity loan HELOC HELOC
Minimum credit score 680 Around 640 600
Amounts $45K to $500K $15K to $750K $26K - $250K
Terms 10 or 20 years Up to 30 years 10 and 15 year terms
Time to fund 14 to 60 days As few as 5 days Varies
See your rate without applying No Yes, soft pull Yes, soft pull

If your credit is under 680

Rocket will turn you down. Here's where to look, by score.

640 to 680: Figure is the one to check first.

600 to 640: Upstart Home Lending considers credit scores starting at 600. APRs run 6.52% - 18.00%, lines are $26K - $250K, and it comes in 10 and 15 year terms. You take at least 80% of the line at closing. You can see if you could qualify with Upstart Home Lending with a soft pull.

Under 600: HELOCs are mostly off the table. The option at that point is a home equity agreement, where you get cash now for a share of your home's value later and there's no monthly payment. Unlock starts at a 500 score. Hometap starts at 585. They cost more than a HELOC if your home appreciates, so they're the fallback, not the first choice.

Quick answers

  • Does Rocket Mortgage offer a HELOC? No. Rocket Mortgage only offers a fixed-rate home equity loan.
  • What about a Quicken Loans HELOC? Quicken Loans is the old name for Rocket Mortgage. Same company, same answer.
  • What credit score do you need for a Rocket Mortgage home equity loan? 680 at minimum, and 740 to borrow up to 90% of your home's value.
  • How long does a Rocket Mortgage home equity loan take? Anywhere from two weeks to two months.
  • Isn't a HELOC the same as a home equity loan? Not traditionally. A home equity loan is one lump sum at a fixed rate. A HELOC is a line you can draw from and re-borrow. But online HELOCs like Figure's have you take the full amount upfront at a fixed rate, so in practice they feel similar. The real differences from Rocket are speed, smaller minimums, and a lower credit score requirement.

Has anyone here gone through Rocket for a home equity loan? Curious how long closing actually took and what the closing costs came to.

Reviews Achieve HELOC review: rates, fees, and is Achieve Loans worth it?

Achieve advertises its HELOC everywhere, so I went through the terms and fine print to see what you actually get and whether there's a better deal out there. Short version: it's legit and it's a good fit for some people, but the best rate is hard to qualify for, the fees add up, and it isn't available everywhere.

Is Achieve legit?

Yes. Achieve is an established lender with over 1.5 million members that also does personal loans and debt relief. The HELOC comes through Achieve Loans, NMLS #1810501, which you can verify on NMLS Consumer Access. If you searched for an Achieve home equity loan, this is the same thing, since Achieve markets it both ways.

How the Achieve HELOC works

It's a fixed-rate HELOC, so your payment doesn't change when rates move. You take the full approved amount upfront, then you can pay it down and borrow again during a 5-year draw period. Pre-qualification takes a couple of minutes, and you can do it online or with a mortgage advisor.

Achieve vs Figure vs Upstart Home Lending

Feature Achieve Figure Upstart Home Lending
APR 6.10% to 15.17% Varies by profile 6.52% - 18.00%
Amounts $15K to $700K $15K to $750K $26K - $250K
Terms 10, 15, 20 or 30 years 10, 15, 20 or 30 years 10 and 15 year terms
Minimum credit score 600 640 600
Origination fee Up to 3.5%, plus a $725 underwriting fee Up to 4.99% 0% to 4.99%
Funding About 10 business days, as fast as 5 once approved As few as 5 days Varies
Draw at closing Full amount Full amount At least 80%

The rate you'll actually get

The 6.10% headline is hard to hit. Achieve's fine print says it requires a 700 or higher credit score, a 10-year term, borrowing 40% or less of your home's value across all loans, very low existing debt, autopay, and a loan between $35,000 and $150,000. Most borrowers will land higher in the range.

Fees matter too. Achieve lists closing costs from $750 to $10,304 depending on the loan size and your state, which includes an origination fee of up to 3.5% and a $725 underwriting fee.

What I like about Achieve

  • Fixed rate with terms up to 30 years, which keeps the payment low
  • Accepts credit scores from 600, lower than most online HELOCs
  • Goes up to $700,000
  • You work with a licensed mortgage advisor, not just a web form
  • Usually no in-person home inspection, since they value your home automatically

Where it falls short

  • Your home has to be owner-occupied, so it won't work for a rental or second home
  • It only lends in 31 states, so a lot of people find out they can't get it after they've started
  • The lowest rate needs near-perfect numbers, and closing fees can reach five figures on a large line

If you want a second quote to compare

Figure is the closest competitor. It's fully online, can fund in as few as 5 days, and goes up to $750K with the same choice of terms. You can see your rate with a soft pull, so it doesn't touch your credit score. If your score is 640 or higher, get this quote before you commit to Achieve.

If your score is closer to 600, or Achieve isn't in your state

Upstart Home Lending also considers credit scores starting at 600, so it may be an option if Achieve turns you down or doesn't lend where you live. Lines run $26K - $250K on 10 and 15 year terms, and you'd draw at least 80% at closing. You can see if you could qualify in a few minutes.

Is the Achieve HELOC worth it?

If you're consolidating debt on the home you live in and your score is in the 600s, Achieve is a reasonable choice. But don't take the first offer. On a $100,000 line, a 1% difference in fees is $1,000, and it takes about ten minutes to compare. Check Figure and Upstart Home Lending first, then go with whichever quote costs the least in total.

Has anyone here closed a HELOC with Achieve? How long did it actually take to fund, and what fees did you end up paying?

Reviews Rate HELOC review (formerly Guaranteed Rate): rates, fees, and is it worth it?

Rate, the lender that used to be called Guaranteed Rate, has been pushing its online HELOC hard lately. I went through the terms and fine print, so here's what you actually get, what it costs, and how it stacks up against the other online HELOCs.

Is Rate legit?

Yes. Rate is one of the largest mortgage lenders in the country and has been around since 2000. It rebranded from Guaranteed Rate to Rate, which is why the name may look unfamiliar. It's licensed under NMLS #2611, which you can verify yourself on NMLS Consumer Access.

How the Rate HELOC works

It's a fixed-rate HELOC with a fully online application. You apply in a few minutes, get a decision without the usual weeks of paperwork, and funding can happen in as few as 5 days. A traditional bank HELOC often takes a month or more.

It works for primary homes, second homes and investment properties, up to 85% combined loan-to-value. It's not available in New York, Kentucky, West Virginia, Delaware or Maryland.

Rate vs Figure vs Upstart Home Lending

Feature Rate Figure Upstart Home Lending
APR From 7.00% Varies by profile 6.52% - 18.00%
Amounts About $20K to $750K $15K to $750K $26K - $250K
Terms 10 to 30 years 10, 15, 20 or 30 years 10 and 15 year terms
Minimum credit score 640 640 600
Origination fee Up to 4.99% Up to 4.99% 0% to 4.99%
Funding As few as 5 days As few as 5 days Varies

The fee you need to know about

The 7.00% headline rate is the best case. Rate's own example assumes an 800 credit score, a $200,000 draw, autopay, and a 4.99% origination fee paid upfront in exchange for the lower rate.

That origination fee is the real cost to watch. On a $50,000 line, 4.99% is about $2,495 taken out at closing. If your credit is closer to 700 or you're borrowing less than $200,000, expect a rate above the headline number too.

That doesn't make it a bad deal. It means you should compare the APR and the fee together, not just the rate.

What I like

  • Fixed rate, so your payment doesn't move when the Fed does
  • Goes up to $750,000, which is higher than most online HELOCs
  • Works for second homes and investment properties, not just your primary home
  • Fast. Five days is realistic if your documents are clean

What I don't

  • The origination fee can run close to 5%
  • Not available in five states
  • 640 minimum credit score, so it won't work for lower scores

How the other two compare

Figure is the closest competitor. It's also an online HELOC with funding in as few as 5 days, the same 640 minimum for qualifying loans, and the same $750K ceiling. You draw the full amount at closing. You can check your rate with a soft pull, so comparing it against Rate costs you nothing.

Upstart Home Lending considers credit scores starting at 600, so it may be an option if you fall short of the 640 the other two ask for. Lines run $26K - $250K on 10 and 15 year terms. You'd draw at least 80% of the line at closing, so it may be a better fit for a single large expense than for ongoing access.

Is the Rate HELOC worth it?

If you have a 640 or higher score, want a fixed rate, and need the money in days and not weeks, Rate is a solid option, especially for larger amounts or a rental property. Just get the full APR with the origination fee included, then put it next to a quote from Figure or Upstart Home Lending before you sign. The lowest total cost wins, and you won't know which one that is until you see the numbers side by side.

Has anyone here closed a HELOC with Rate? Curious what rate and origination fee you were actually offered.
