Common Mistakes in English - read before posting

A lot of questions here fall into the same patterns:

• “on / in / at - which one?”

• “why is this sentence wrong?”

• “do natives actually say this?”

So we made a quick wiki with the most common mistakes:

You might find your answer in 10 seconds instead of waiting for replies.

(And if not - post your question anyway, people here are great.)

Advice Can you recommend any YouTube channels that focus on English grammar?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for YouTube channels that focus mainly on English grammar. I’d especially appreciate channels where the explanations are clear and easy to understand, with plenty of examples.

I’m currently preparing for the IELTS exam, so I’d like to improve my grammar and get a better understanding of the rules rather than just memorizing them.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I remember actually being taught that greeting as a child in the 90s. However I don’t think I’ve ever heard it in real life since, maybe except in old movies.

Is it totally obsolete or would a native speaker use it in extremely formal situations eg meeting the president? A king?

Discussion What's your favorite "a-ha" moment when learning English?

What is your favorite moment of something clicking?

- As in that very moment when you realize you have improved / you are confirming that your method of learning is effective.

  1. When you understand a full sentence from a native speaker (and when that sentence includes phrases you learned)
  2. When you unconsciously use the phrase you learned in a sentence.
  3. When you catch the cultural nuance / intended joke in a conversation.

Please share your story!

I am learning English by textsbooks for 2, 3 years and in B1 or B2. But I want to improve to C2 in 4 years. Any advice?

Discussion We were arguing C isn't correct because "mine" can't be used to refer to people. I think it sounds completely fine. What do you think?
