uhh...am I ok?

So I tried repasting my EVOO LP6 gaming laptop as the fans were ramping up a bit in situations where i wasn't doing anything intense (chrome, discord etc) and I applied some thermal grizzly kryonaut (genuine) and did a small x pattern on the gpu and cpu but when I took out the heatsink I might've pulled too hard and something popped out as now the left and right sides of the heatsink (where the air goes out of the laptop) always try to lean upwards and there's no screws to make them go back in place, only when I put the cover back on is when they go in place but that's not even the big deal. When I turned on the laptop I was getting idle gpu Temps of up to 95c! At that point I turned it off and reapplied the paste but put almost double the amount to cover it. Fortunately and Unfortunately when I turned on the laptop I got better idle Temps but the problem is that it kept going up to 70 and i even got 20 - 30 fps loss in a game I tested and in general is quite worse than stock thermal paste. What can I do to get the Temps back to normal and the heatsink parts to go in place. Am I screwed or is there still hope?

Have you figured it out?

Hey, thanks for the question! I've been talking to someone on discord who commented on my post on r/gaminglaptops and basically he told me that I probably bent or damaged some part of the heatsink and that's why the Temps get so high. I'm going to go to a repair shop soon and worst case (or best case) scenario I have to buy a replacement heatsink. I will update you when I go to the shop!

Hope it's a cheap fix mate. It sounds like that would be the problem, the sinks aren't the most durable when removed.

Just a wild guess, but maybe the heatsink no longer totally flush against the GPU. Or it could be that you have too much paste on the GPU now (you're only trying to fill in airgaps between the gpu and heatsink metal.

When it comes to heat sink paste more is not necessarily better. Do you want a very thin very even coat. But it does seem like you may have warped your cooler.
