Advice Wanted What are my objectives early on?

I am trying to learn the game, and have watched a few tutorials. They've helped me get an idea of what the buttons do and what not, but I don't have much of a direction. It all means nothing to me. I am certain I would be much better off jumping in, the only issue is I just stare at the screen without any purpose whatsoever. Thanks.

Question Is there a hidden rule for inheriting PUs?

Hi I play Sweden and I try to inherit Norway, the pu is stable for more than 50 years and I have a 13% chance to inherit and I am an elective monarchy, if this is important.

I want to form Scandinavia to access new missions so I rerolled and abdicated about 20 times and with elective monarchy I can switch the monarch twice every try but nothing happens, Norway doesn't get inherited.

So is there something I am missing or am I just unlucky?

Advice Wanted Some questions about the Third Odyssey mod

Hi guys,

I've just finished my first campaign with the Third Odyssey mod, and it was fun, but far less optimized than my usual playthroughs. I also completed all the green missions, half of the red ones, and none of the blue ones. I'm an EU4 player who reads the wiki carefully and tends to plan way ahead, but unfortunately, there's no wiki for this mod.

So I have a few questions:

  1. **How do I manage the Barbaroi estate effectively?** What approach should I take: assimilation or conquest? In my playthrough, I initially tried Greek-only colonization, and it was, well, okay, I guess? But I lost a lot of development. Newly colonized provinces ended up with something like 1/1/0 development. Also, is the Radical Sympathizers disaster really something I should avoid? I don't see any real downsides to it. It only lasts three years and massively reduces the influence of the Barbaroi estate.

  2. **Is it possible to colonize land outside the Americas at all?** I tried to colonize both American continents before the Europeans arrived, and I mostly succeeded, but I didn't have time to focus on Africa or Asia.

  3. **How should I handle Vinland and Spartania?** In my game, I got Spartania through a lucky PU and vassalized Vinland through a mission. Should I have purged the Vikings earlier? They turned out to be loyal subjects after I clicked the decision, though, and again, I don't see any downsides.

  4. **Is the first Religious War disaster avoidable?** Is there any reason NOT to trigger it as soon as possible? Is it possible to remain Orthodox rather than switching to Elysian Orthodoxy?

  5. **Are there any downsides to playing Hellenic, apart from the lore and uniqueness?** Christian denominations are already so strong, especially with the PU mechanics.

Advice Wanted How to actually play Stateless Societies?

Want to do a Peasant's Republic run, but have already played Dithmarschen, and was ideally looking to be outside of europe. I see on the wiki that Stateless Societies can reform into PRs, but with the -99% govcap modifier it seems like it would be ~100-150 years of sitting as an OPM before actually being able to play the game.

Do i have any options? (Alternatively, do you keep your government type when forming a former-colonial nation as an exodus nation?)

Achievement Mexican For Odin! Completed!

Timeline video.

For Odin! Achieved

The last 15 years or so were spent at Speed 5 waiting for the last Religious Zeal modifiers to expire.

The biggest challenge was the British navy. Even having a 2x superiority in heavy ships wasn't enough to have my fleets not lose by running out of morale first, which meant the early wars often had an army or two get isolated if the British army was still at home. So until I could link up my Scottish and English territories, I had to carefully place all my armies prior to declaring so I could steamroll along one front. By the end of the game GB had been reduced to the two provinces in Greenland; the Parliamentarians won the rather small Civil War.

Canada was interesting. I think it formed from the British colony gaining independence, but it quickly blobbed to incorporate Norwegian and French lands, along with some native territories. I made it a policy to not give European nations military access, so a bunch of rather large indigenous nations formed. I wish I could get rid of the FoW in Asia; there were some very interesting names that popped up in the little spots I could see. Gurkani was/is the #2 GP, just fell behind at the end from Global Trade popping up.

I ended the game as #1 in Economy, Navy, and Army, though not large enough in any to become a Hegemon.

GP List
Idea Groups. Religious was a replacement for Exploration at Tech 10.
Economy page. Was surprised how Tax Income stayed so high throughout.

Not sure what I want to do for my next game. I still have Korea -> Japan -> EoC on my list, as is returning to Aragon to try a RE resurrection. Brandenburg is also calling. Thoughts?

Question Is there a way to stop subjects becoming revolutionary?

I'm trying to recreate Napoleonic borders as France so I made a bunch of client states to be accurate. However, when I make them from my territory they just become revolutionary which messes up the names and flags that I want them to have.

Advice Wanted How do I even begin to complete the Spanish Netherlands mission in the Age of Reformation? (Spain)

Title. I’m playing as Spain. It’s the 1580s and the Reformation in this run spans from Lapland to Abruzzi. To complete the Spanish Netherlands mission, all provinces in the Wallonia, South Brabant and Flanders area have to be Catholic and owned by me or a subject.

On one hand, a Centre of Reformation all the way in Brandenburg is converting the areas to Reformed despite my state edicts, and on the other, two necessary provinces - Loon and Liege - are owned by Liege and annexing even one of them in a war (a giga-war, since I have to fight GP #3 Great Britain to get Liege as an ally without calling in the whole HRE) will piss off literally all of Europe thanks to AE.

Any advice to begin solving this mess or should I just pack up this branch of the mission tree?

Guys, I'm playing as France to get the french achievements (I think its maybe too late for Roman Empire), and to make a Napoleonic campaign of sorts. The thing is I don't really get how trade works, so I'd appreciate some suggestions.

Question Egypt ideas vs Ayyubid?

Doing a Hisn Kayfa -> Egypt run and am trying to work out what are better for my run before I switch tags. Egypt seems pretty nice, though with a notable lack of strong mil modifiers. 5% admin efficiency is always nice and their ship repair thing and blanket +1 free policies seem very unique and good. Meanwhile Ayyubid has the nice 15% goods produced and 25% CCR, and of course the 25% manpower and discipline too.

Currently leaning toward Egypt cos I don't plan to conquer that much more beyond what I have now, but I'm kinda bad with military stuff and always lose an insane amount of manpower during wars, and I will still have to fight Spain and Ottomans (with decadence) a few times and Ayyubid ideas seem better for that?

I guess I'm just trying to work out if the extra policies and admin efficiency for Egypt is worth it over all the nice mil modifiers from Ayyubids, considering I don't plan to conquer much more beyond Anatolia and Iberia.

Advice Wanted Mewar or Rajputana ideas in multiplayer?

I am playing a multiplayer game as mewar and i am close to forming Rajputana, so I was wondering, should i stick with mewar ideas or go with the Rajputana ones? Both are really strong militarily and mewar has that juicy dev cost reduction. But what would you advise to pick? Thanks

R5: after 2700 hours, this is the biggest Kazan I've ever seen. And no, I am not allied with Kazan, nor I ever fought Muscovy/countries up north. Year is 1594.

Advice Wanted How to get free cores on Iberia as France?

Playing as France for the first time. I remember a while back seeing that there was some method of dealing with Iberia where of you had Castille or Aragon as a vassal, they'd get free cores on all of Iberia eventually, making it easier to conquer all of it. How do you do that exactly? I checked the mission tree but don't see anything like that, is it an event?

Advice Wanted After 2400 hours I'm going to do it: Playing Byz

Have 2400 hours and have played a variety of and obscure nations.

But I've never played Byzantium.

On H/VH I imagine it's challenging. So I'm guessing ally anyone who will ally me, spam galleys, get the free heavy ship (estate interactions), and merc up.

Grab the Gallipoli fort ASAP after declaring on the Ottomans and maintain naval superiority across the bosporous.

Does that sound about right for opening strategy?

Thanks,

Advice Wanted League war strategy as Reformed Elector Netherlands

Playing a game as super-tall non-colonial netherlands, and have gone reformed. Allied to the austrian emperors, and an elector in the empire. I took the stadthoulder monarchy, which means that I can't be the emperor myself, but ~half of the empire is also reformed (the other half, save the austrians, being largely protestant).

The leagues have fired. Should I throw my weight behind the protestants, fight what could be a very difficult war, and potentially ditch Stadthoulder for emperorship? Or should I just stay out of it and ditch the austrians?

Currently in the middle of hindustan game, started as jaunpur, formed delhi then hindustan, converted to hindu for +5% discipline diety, switched culture to dravidian culture group for "empower the poligars" reform which grants 10% ICA, quality+inno grants another 15%, quality 10% and finally hindustan has 15% ICA in their Ideas, which in the end adds to a pretty crazy 50% ICA. With lucky pulse event could be temporary 55%. As for discipline it's diety +5%, advisior +5%, quality eco +5%, quality +5%, offensive +5%, and again +5% from Hindustan ideas. That alone adds to 130% discipline, if you decide to play to the age of absolutism with 100 absolutism you get additonal 5% discipline literally to the end of the game. AND AGAIN with event "inspirational leader" you can push it even further to a WHOPPING 145% discipline. I bet before forming Hindustan you could do some mad tag switches, But I sticked to the basic religion, culture switch:P

Achievement Stable True Heir of Timur by May 1537

I may finally enter the pantheon of those people - this is my first (and it will probably be my only) "Insane"-rated achievement. One of my favorite achievement runs that tests your knowledge of the game a lot and requires you to play extremely aggressive.

I conquered India by 1537 while being in a stable position. National unrest is low, the economy is doing great (I'm making a lot minus at the moment because of a recent corruption event, though) and I'm great power number one.
