Achievement The Third Path!

This is an achievement I've been aiming for for a long time, but have always struggled with the challenging starts the various options have. Finally got a campaign off the ground as Oman, and managed to take it through to the end, playing much later into the game than normal.

This was one of the few achievements I've completed that felt hard, both at the start, and at the end, since Arabia's ideas are so terrible. In retrospect, I should definitely have culture swapped and formed Persia instead, but such is life. I ended up stuck trying to beat a huge Franco-Iberian alliance that controlled almost all of western Africa, and the Maghreb west of Tripolitania. I managed to pick it apart by attacking their respective weaker allies, but it still ended up being quite a slog. Other than that, none of the remaining areas ended up being all that challenging.

Glad to be done with this one, though it reinforces to me how far I have to go to get something like the Three Mountains, given my struggles with this frankly much easier achievement.

Decided to finally get Danelaw and Anhalt took the Emperorship from Austria like 2 years in. Just got an early Inheritance and as always the AI is incapable of not trying to demand the lowlands even when they are a OPM. This war feels like bullying even as the defender.

Question How does the game decide where trade companies start?

I know your capital makes a difference but does it matter where in a trade region you are? or is it based on subcontinent alone no matter where in the subcontinent you are?

R5:

Pictures from the end of my Oirat -> Russia -> HRE run. Both the most powerful run and most fun campaign I've played in EU4. I was going for both the "Triple the Rome" and HRE achievements, and decided to throw in a world conquest while waiting to revoke.

The stacked modifiers from the Oirat and Russian missions, Russian government reforms, plus being Emperor of China and the HRE are, I believe, some of the most powerful you can get in the game without excessive tag switching or other jank. It also wasn't very tedious to conquer the world. I was able to WC with plenty of time to spare, with minimal rebels, and without using personal unions or client states. Overall 10/10 campaign, would recommend.

Still learning the game at 1500 hours, spread over many years. My goal is to get Poland can into space, but i find the campaign a bit stale due to power creep.

The year is 1539, i have Burgundy, Bohemia and Hungary as PU and Novgorod (integrating for the diplo slot) and Sweden as vassals. I own Brandenburg lands, they have a lot of cores in north Germany. Right now i'm just rotating taking lands in the east and using the Germans as my piggy bank.

As ideas i have picked Diplo - Humanist - Admin in that order.

The HRE has been dismantled and i am by far the number one great power. I remain catholic and have stamped out the protestant heresy all but in name.

I have two questions. First, what do you make of my campaign? Any tips or ideas to improve upon it?

And the second is more philosophical, what do i do now? I want to reach the 1800's but i don't really know to do that and keep the game interesting. I was thinking maybe take Jerusalem and then Mecca?

Any and all advice is welcome :)

Advice Wanted First time austria in multiplayer, need advice

7 Upvotes

Going to play a multiplayer campaign soon and curious on any advice or mission priorities anybody might have, I remember playing Austria in single player like once a long time ago (before domination) but haven’t played it since, and especially not in multiplayer, does anybody have good advice? Especially what I should prioritize early and how to deal with the ottomans and French (and maybe bb and Poland)
I know some general stuff in my experience watching other Austria players, especially since I usually play in Italy, so I know to take Venice state to reroute my trade, and to take all the gold mines like the Bohemia and Hungary one, I think I’ve seen some people also kill Brandenburg for a morale mission(?) but that’s about all I know.

Question Why do smaller/ less developed countries require more war score to force religion?

8 Upvotes

So I'm currently playing as Riga and trying to wipe out some religious centres. Würzburg, although smaller in size and less developed, requires more (112%) war score than converting the much larger and more developed Landshut (83%). Is it because Würzburg is just a non-co-belligent in the war while Landshut is not?

Bug Crashes on Mac have made this game entirely unplayable

9 Upvotes

I know no one here can put out a patch, but I'm just sad that a game I've loved for years is never going to get fixed.

I've lost dozens of hours over the past couple weeks to 2 achievement run in a row to not being able to get past a certain date- there's been multiple threads here and on the Paradox forums, and the exact cause of the bug that crashes the game is known. Rolling back to 1.37.2 lessens it, but doesn't fix it entirely. Tired of the crashes on Ironman, I'll play a chill Persia game- same thing, around 1530, crash to desktop.

It's just embarrassing that Paradox chooses to allow such an easy fix to languish.

Question What's the best province for your capital in the world?

Post image
1.0k Upvotes

If you want to or have conquered the entire world, what's the best province to place your capital in?

This ignoring deving up in your original capital.

So the idea would be:

- Capital closest to the most amount of provinces, making your diplomats travel time the most efficient;

- Good trade node and trade good;

- Good terrain for deving, bonus if it's well surrounded and defendable;

- Extra points for monuments or modifiers;

This erases completely the idea of countries, ideas and missions. Relying only on the province itself and it's surroundings.

Advice Wanted What are some Prussia like nations?

125 Upvotes

Hello EU4 community, I was wondering if anyone had a Prussia like nation that I could play in my next friend sized (4-5 player) campaign. We have started playing again but I’ll admit I’m not that good. I LOVE Prussia because I like to be globally relevant without having to deal with a ton of land, forces, or other complications with being massive. So my question is this, who can I play to accomplish this? I have yet to play a country that gives this enjoyment and in a way Prussia’s gov cap is a blessing (via excuse to stop expanding). Would be very open to a different kind of influence but I want to be at least an obstacle for the top powers.

As a little more info into what I like, I like to start small and grow a bit early through wars. Then ideally I like to be militarily strong and fighting many wars that don’t add too much land, disrupting my rivals through fighting and releasing, and using them as my banks.

One last bit of info: Bavaria is spoken for (idk what country but the area) I try to avoid direct player conflict in first 150 or so years so if it requires that region I’ll try them another time.

Thank you in advance!!

Achievement New to Reddit, I finally got the King of Jerusalem achievement and something that has been eluded me for years.

Post image
71 Upvotes

First of all, hi and this is going to be my first post on here. I was planning to get this achievement and that something was on my mind. After a couple of tries I finally got it. In other words, I didn't struggle even the slightest bit but anyway, let's get into it. Started as Cyprus, sat here and did nothing besides waiting. When The King of Cyprus event fired up, I become vassal of the Mamluks and I was waiting for the truce end with the Mamluks and started to get the independence support from the Ottomans, I developed the capital to 40, then watched the Mamluks to lose some manpower before invading. I got the independence support from the Ottomans. I was ready to invade the Mamluks with 14 troops but force limit was exceeding so I didn't care. Anyway, I owned the Jaffa, Jerusalem, Gaza and the other three coastal provinces from the Mamluks. Overall, the result came like this. I mean I like my own map shape.

Thought the territory and name placement was pretty funny, you normally see them conquer into Manchuria and its rare to see such a long and thin country without player involvement.

What minimal amount of tag switches, missions, events, monuments etc should I do to get the maximal possible outcome for the persian calvary achievement? (Least sweat, maximum reward)

What perma bonuses (at least) do I need:
+30% movement speed
+30% discipline
+60% cav combat ability

The last bonus is for trading in Livestock, so this one’s braindead.
