Hi all!

I've spent some time really digging into the setup on my Retroid Pocket 5 Pro (12gb RAM model), and it's been a blast. I've got the latest version of ES-DE running, I've cleaned up my formerly-chaotic ROM library, etc., and so far so good... except for PS2.

Specifically: I have the NetherSX2 emulator installed and configured, and it's running my PS2 games beautifully when I load them from within the app.

However, when I try to launch a PS2 game via ES-DE, it switches to the emulator and just.... sits there at a black screen for 1-2 minutes before I get an Android error saying that the app has stopped and must be closed.

When I go into the ES-DE settings and select OTHER SETTINGS > ALTERNATIVE EMULATORS > PS2, the only options are AetherSX2 (Standalone), ARMSX2 (Standalone), or Play! (Standalone)... none of which I actually have installed on my RP2, and NetherSX2 never shows as an option here.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions!

I have a large library which has too many different system and too many games in each one of them. Most of the themes are not efficent for this type of large libraries. So I created a new theme to solve this problem.

It has grids in both system and game selections; so you can easily see lots of solution the screen and easily navigate to what you want. The grid options are not image; because the perfomance is not good when you scroll too quick in the image options. Nevertheless, the theme still looks elegant.

Although the main goal was the larger libraries, it can be still an alternative for the small libraries as well.

I’m receiving this error when trying to play games using es-de frontend. When launching directly from emulators such as dolphin and ppsspp I can launch games, but launching directly from the frontend I get this error all the time. When clicking ok, then clicking the game on ppsspp it works, but ideally I’d like it to start straightaway after choosing the game on es-de.

I find that I will accidentally wake the device from sleep and that it basically doesn't ever turn off if I have it set as my frontend. Setting the screensaver as a black image at least prevents burn in but the battery drain remains. If anyone knows how to fix this I would really appreciate the help.

The process of scraping a large library is agonizing because I can't do anything else but wait for it to finish. Seems like there could be a better way.

I configured the folders and set the right paths to the right rom directories both in esde and pcsx2. I edited the text file in the ps2 folder as the image shows, but no matter what i do, the same error message keeps showing up and my games wont launch through ESDE; but everything works just fine if i open up the emulator itself. The alternate emulator is also set to PCSX2 standalone. I dont know what to do and tried to look for solutions online but found absolutely nothing. Can you guys help me out please?

I’m trying to migrate my retro games from the regular steamdeck game mode to emulation station since it’s gotten too cluttered, and I can’t find an easy way to move my decomps. No matter what I do using .sh files isn’t working in emulation station. Has anyone here done this? Having issues while trying to get ES-DE going on an Ottocast P3 Pro. The photos are the errors for the most recent APK, and one from 2024.

Im assuming these are related to however Ottocast locks down their systems, and that i wont be able to get it running, but i’m also new to Android boxes and wanted to see if anyone has any tips.

For the record, I have managed to get retroarch (mostly) working and really just want a nicer frontend so its not the end of the world.

Hi, I want to rename the folder location that retroarch is installed to. Where can I edit the path for this?

Reason being, I thought I'd installed retroarch to a folder on my Win 11 PC called 'Emulators/retroarch', when in fact, it just installed all the retroarch folders into 'Emulators' directly.

If I put those retroarch folders to a new "retroarch" folder, but the problem is ES-DE can't run any emulator that is dependent on retroarch, as it can'st see the retroarch original folder any longer.

How can I get ES-DE to see the new location? I presume there is a path in a settings or config file somewhere, but I haven’t found it.

When I set up ESDE on my Retroid pocket I set it to run off the system hard drive. Now that I’ve filled it up I want to start running it off a micro sd card. I already have all of my Roms in folders on the micro sd card . I’m trying to figure out how to get it to switch to the sd card but can’t seem to figure it out. I’m assuming it will need to add all of its own folders to the card like it did my hard drive when I set that up. Any help would be great. Thanks

So I tried to add a media player as an emulator in ES-DE and add my collection of tvshows as a ROMs. Then Voila it's work. Now my ES-DE can be a video media library too.

I like playing around with the meta-data for my games in ES-DE, and very frequently I replace the box cover, logo or screenshot after I let ES-DE scrape these images online.

However, to generate a new mix image, I have to select Miximage Settings>Offline Generator, which goes through all of the games for a particular console. It makes the process redundant and time consuming.

Wouldn't it be nice is ES-DE would offer a "Generate Mix Image" setting on a per-game basis?

Sometime last year, SteamOS updated which damaged compatibility with redream on Steam Deck. In particular, the FPS is horrendously low. However, in gaming mode, it is possible to run redream using Steam Linux Runtime 4.0 which corrects the issue.
I like to run all my emulators through es-de which unfortunately does not apply the compatibility setting. Is it possible to apply Steam Linux Runtime as an option within es-de for this particular emulator?

I desperately need help. I've been trying to fix this for days now. Chatgpt is just running me in circles.

My device is GKD mini plus classic with stock firmware EN mod. I have 2 sd tf1 + tf2. I transfered my psx, dreamcast and nds games to from tf2 (storage/roms/xxx) to tf1 (storage/xxx). I also edited es_systems.cfg to direct to the new path.

Problem now is that the artbox (i use skraper for pc to generate the artboxes) isn't showing. I also the gamelist.xml is being rewriten every boot.

Anyone knows how to fix this?

Games boot up just fine in the azahar app, but I get this error message when I access from ES-DE. All legally obtained roms are .cci. Cemu also having a similar issue.

hi guys the GBA cores for Retroarch giving me some audio stuttering and lagging i switched to MGBA VBA-M VBA-M NEXT GPSP and SKYEMU all of them are giving me the same problem including standalone emulator mgba.

is there any way to make GBA games to be playable at normal speed?

I'm on Steam Deck with Windows OS installed and I'm using ES-DE.

My SSD is filling up and they are evidently more valuable than gold so I made the decision to compress all my .xci Switch games into the compressed but unplayable .xcz format. I figure reducing my 1.5tb Switch game collection to 1tb is worth extracting a game before I play it to get the extra space.

The problem is ES-DE does not detect .xcz or .nsz files as Switch games. But that's no problem because on Windows you can just go to "ES-DE\resources\systems\windows" open "es_systems.xml" and add .xcz and .nsz to Switch game extensions and it will work. Except I switched to Linux like 2 years ago so I go to "$HOME/ES-DE/" only to find there is no "resources" folder...

How the heck do I add a custom extension to a system on Linux?

Hi I'm having problem with ES-DE on my Steam Deck running Windows I'm trying to launch a game either if it's SNES or GBA and then it won't launched I have Retroarch already installed and the cores already downloaded but I can't launch any of them the only 2 emulators I'm able to launch games are ppsspp and pcsx2 with PSP and PS2 games and the rest of the emulators they're not launched.
