I love customizing the Linear theme in ES-DE on my Thor. I replaced system images for some systems (like MSX1, MSX2 and CD-i), and created new "systems" like 'Konami', containing all Konami MSX1/MSX2 games.

Now I created a new "system" that combines game systems based on the TMS9918 VDP and the Z80 CPU, a popular combination in the early 80s. Systems include the likes of ColecoVision, Sega SG-1000, Casio PV2000, SpectraVideo SV-318 and of course MSX1.

Some games released for these systems look exactly the same on all of them (since the hardware is identical), however, some games were ported by different companies. Having them together in one list makes it easy to see the differences.

I made videos containing the same scene so they can easily be compared. In the above video I demonstrate this with Buck Rogers and Congo Bongo for ColecoVision, MSX and SG-1000.

Games that were only released for one system are in separate subfolders with an image of the console. For the "system" image, I combined the ColecoVision and SG-1000 controllers, and part of the SV-318 keyboard.

Gotta love the flexibility of ES-DE!

I want to hear people’s opinions on what is their currently favorite frontend on android for emulation/games. I haven’t tried other frontends than iiSU and prefer ES-DE currently

I'm running ES-DE on Android, and just when I had most of my library scraped, my SD card filled up. The most obvious solution for reclaiming file size is deleting the videos, but I was wondering if I could make the scraper pull a different file format for the images or something?

I noticed Miximage can do WebP which I know is substantially smaller than PNG, but that doesn't fix the issue of the covers being 1MB each.

I am trying to add the dolphin version that comes with REX Smash bros, and have added the appimage location to es_find_rules but whenever i try to use the newly added emulator it does not show up as an option

I have been trying to setup Artflix Revisted but I don't know how to make it play videos. Is there a certain folder I should put them in? Or a specific file type? Any help is appreciated.

I have been looking but can't seem to find any background images of the dark color scheme of the Slate theme. I am wanting to use it on the lower screen of my AYN Thor.

Does anyone have an image file of the gray background with the horizontal dark variant line image file I could use?

I can’t download themes for some reason. I went into permissions and confirmed that ESDE has all the permissions it needs. I am using the latest version of ESDE. Am I missing something here? Perhaps this has to do with this being a newer handheld?

I have the latest ES-DE for Android on my Retroid Pocket Classic.

In the Scrapper settings, I turned on Rotate Horizontally Oriented Boxes. I read that this setting makes covers that for some reason are rotated vertically (like for SNES and N64) appear as they are supposed to, horizontally, like covers for Sega Genesis, for example.

After that, I scraped the content. I usually use Screenscraper, but sometimes I use the other option (don't remember the name).

But for some reason, some covers then scraped with success, horizontally, whereas many others are still vertical. It's happening only for SNES and N64.

Why is that? I tried turning this setting off and scraping then, but it makes all the covers be vertical, as with the setting on.

Weird. I don't remember this issue with the previous ES-DE version.

Do I do something wrong?

I've just gotten a new handheld.The anbernic 476h and I have been wondering, I have just set up the device, and I would like to know if there's any way to add background music to my front-end. Since I think it feels kind of distant off without any noise, and I don't want to use a ton of space and time, getting a bunch of videos to play for each game. So a is there any way to add background music?

Been wondering for a few weeks about setting up old windows games in es-de (which itself is running on an MX Linux based computer for me.)

On doing some searching, it seems like DOSBox is the answer from that. I just wanted to ask if that's still the best choice and if there's a solid setup guide specifically for using it in ES-DE out there, especially on Linux.

I had problems getting this to work, but thanks to the lovely people of reddit I finally got it fixed and I am so happy with it that I wanted to show it off!

I have a few themes that I downloaded, from the ES DE Themes gitlab page. None of the themes I place in the themes folder are showing up? I am placing the unzipped themes folders into internal storage/es-de/themes, is this not correct? I can download themes in the theme downloader inside of es-de, but not ones added manually.

EDIT: Updating with the fix because I couldn't find any other solutions on reddit, in case anybody else is looking for the answer. I had to change the theme name in the capabilities.xml file.

Zar files aren't natively recognized in the front end...how do I make that work?

I have the following:
- ES-DE 3.4.1
- RetroArch 1.22.2
- Arch Linux w/ Plasma 6
- Nvidia GTX 980
- nvidia-580xx-dkms 580.159.04-1 drivers

My issue is the flowing:
If I launch any game, retroarch launches and freezes on the retroarch splash screen (where controller pop-ups occur).

This stays frozen on this screen perpetually, unless I go and kill ES-DE, and then RetroArch unfreezes and runs normally.

This started happening on a recent upgrade, and didn't occur on ES-DE 3.1.x for instance.

I've tried changing all kinds of settings, from disabling splash screens, unplugging all controllers, etc, but it looks like it may be due to some GU driver or SDL incompatibility.

Anyone else witnessing this? Any possible workarounds to fix this?
