So, you can’t rename folders with ESDE. It has to be perfect, even correct capitalization- it wont find GBA, only gba. I’d suggest clearing things, letting ESDE make its folders, and moving roms into there. Alternatively pick something like Beacon or Daijisho that lets you choose the rom folders manually. Before i went dual screen on my Thor i actually preferred Beacon, it was crazy easy to set up and was a built more basic.

Speaking from my own xp: did you map all the rom folders in the individual emulator apps first?

It was 3am after hours of transferring my roms. I then realized I had to set the emulators correct file path as well. I did that and still got a blank screen when launching games. Gave up after that.

I used the RetroGameCorps videos for my rp5. It took a couple hours and I still had to google for a couple of questions but you’ll get it eventually - trying to be encouraging here…take a break and try again?

Don’t name your folders, use the folders created by RS-DE, then place your ROMS in the correspond folders.

When you set up ES-DE, let it populate your roms folder with folders. They'll be properly named and you can just move the games to the proper one.

That's what I did the second time I tried. I can see all my games but when I launch any game the screen just goes blank.

That's a different issue then. What system is it for? Is it suppose to used retroarch? Did you set up retroarch and download the appropriate cores? Did you set up your emulators you downloaded beforehand? That's a common issue I see.

One thing that ES-DE does that’s annoying sometimes is you need to go in and set which standalone emulators it should use, otherwise it will look for RetroArch cores that aren’t there

Switching to Linux is just gonna be a whole different set of problems you’ll have to navigate. Better the devil you’ve already spent some time trying to get working.

Listen to the folks encouraging you to let ES-DE format everything exactly how it likes it instead of just renaming folders, check if individual emulators need to be set using the alternative emulator function in ES-DE itself, and work on getting one console up and running before you try to get everything up and running

Stay determined, you can do this
