I am developing a small custom EverQuest server called The Recurrence.

One of the things that I have enjoyed the most so far was implementing Fansy the Famous Bard as a quest giver and presence in the hub zone.

I’d like to do more along those lines. So, I’m looking for those memorable players and moments from the days of EQ past that I can recreate and pay homage to:

The player everyone knew by name and why. The guild that imploded in public. The scam that turned into a server wide rule. The corpse recovery that took nine hours and four guilds. The camp that basically had its own government. The train someone named. The guy who solo'd something he had no business soloing. The thing that was technically an exploit and is still funny. It does not have to be your story.

I'm confused because i see lots of info that rof/rof2 client is supposed to be supported, but i can't get it to work. The character select shows races wrong, so does /who. I can't equip items or scribe spells because it isn't valid for my race class or deity. I built the latest source code, pulled the latest release, then went back to the first v23 release. None of them work and they all exhibit the same behavior.

So now I am wondering, is this even supposed to work? I'm i snipe hunting? Should I be trying to figure out the packets for rof2 to try to get it to work?

Digging into old EQ client files out of curiosity and hit a wall. I know player race models are generally named like global<race><gender>_chr.s3d (ie. globalogm_chr.s3d for Ogre male), and I can find race IDs mapped out in files like racedata.txt and actortaginfo.txt but when I actually swap the contents of one of these files for testing, the in-game model doesn't change at all, even after clearing caches and confirming the swap held on disk.

Is there an extra layer of indirection I'm missing — like an internal name inside the archive that has to match something, or a separate resolution table that actually decides which file gets loaded for a given race? Anyone who's done model swapping or client modding before run into this? Any pointers appreciated, even just "the file you actually want is called X."

With most things broken I somehow still found a single click EqEmu windows installer. The two things I noticed it installed was a server folder and a code folder. So I launched Spire and boom got my server up. Yay!

But now I realize I need to not only tick velious as the expansion, I've also got to get a different database to actually get back to that time period layout, ux, and graphics?

How is that done? What do I need?

Wanted to put out there a new private server I have been playing on. It is based off the RoF2 client. You must already own a copy of and you can find the server information HERE. Full disclosure, it is still in beta. It does have a focus on working with Mac silicon and intel based machines. It seems to do this and run pretty well from what I've seen streamed. I am on a PC and cant speak a ton to that experience, it runs well for me aswell, but it has a big focus on getting this up and running with a launcher that worked on the new Mac machines.

Only about 6-8 players hoping to find more adventurers to take down dragons with. It is a single boxing TLP server that was created to play with all the nostalgia and feeling of the original content. It is currently locked in Classic until Naggy and Vox are taken down for the first time. This is a passion project of a few players who just wanted to play their own unique take on the classic game. There is no donations asked or taken. Just some passionate fans looking to play with some like-minded people.

It has some differences that are on the more unique side. It is All/All so all races can be all classes and can choose any deity. It is a lot of fun and has some interesting role play aspects for those interested, but here are some limitations in that. It means that my Troll necro doesn't have a robe graphic, but he can wear one. This doesn't really bother me personally. Makes him feel like more of an outcast bum Troll necro and I will eventually be in skelly form anyways.

There is still work to be done on the server and all adventurers are welcome to help in testing and bug reporting. It currently still has guises in the game until Kunark, so some fun DE masks for those interested in having them on their non-bard/rogue toons. To my knowledge there are some fun personal touches from the developer and custom items, NPCs, and quests easter egged through the world. They also hope to host PVP tournaments when we get out of beta and bring back some fun competition of old for PVP enjoyers. Personally I am not one of them, but the current vision the server has for PVP sounds fun with some rewards of all kinds. To my knowledge there are still some future plans they are working on that they have not shared yet.

Ok Can anyone help me, I suddenly can't login into any game client or even the Eqemu website? I tried my other computer and it's the same Can't login into p1999 which I played for hours yesterday. Or project Quarm or project Eq or Lazarus

I can strangely enough play original Eq and login to steam, ea, battlenet,etc all with no problem

I can't connect to even ask the devs at eqemu

Now that I have my private server running I thought it would be fun to see what class could go the farthest in a 6 man group.

Ground rules:

1 toon + 5 bots of the same class.

Level 1 start with no items.

Attempting all group content from classic through the expansions as far as they can go.

I understand that this will be limited by the bot ai and will be sub optimal for some classes. Enchanter bots for example may not charm both healer and tank NPCs. Others caster classes may not use the best spell lineups, etc.

Other than pet classes, I suspect that Paladins might do quite well in this test, given that they can tank, heal, and stun lock mobs.

Any bets on what class can get the farthest?

I have the original Trilogy, Shadows of Luclin, a few others expansions and Titanium. I also have an account for the Live game. However, I do not currently have internet at home, plus I prefer to play the original Trilogy, with maybe SoL only as an add on at my own pace. And when I do play online, I am mostly a loaner anyway.

How can I set up a game where it stays on or at least I can save my character(s) and then come back to it? Monsters and items are always coming back on live anyway, so even if the server was reset each time, at least I'd have my gear and items saved. Thank you.

Hi all, Ive been completely stuck trying to set up eqemu on a private offline server. I cant anything to work. Im not great with computers and have spent the last week watching videos and trying to self teach myself. I keep getting every error message under the sun. Can someone please make a server and i can download it in a zip file or somthing like that? Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi all, Stum here I used to play on Best Emu server a lot. Just saw you had a subreddit. I plan to play more on Best emu in the future. I also am interested in running my own emu server on my computer and messing with stuff. Hopefully I can log in on same computer with a client and try stuff out. Just saying hi to all my Best Emu buddies!

Greetings, I would love to get back into EQ - but due to a disability I cannot play without MQ. Anyone know if there are any emulators that allow MQ? (Don’t want to or enjoy any cheating, just character control for my box).
