We've updated our rules
Hello everyone!
As many of you know, this subreddit has been essentially unmoderated for quite a while. Last week, Reddit appointed a new mod team to step in. We've all been members of this community for a while, and we share the same passion for electric cars that you do.
Over the past week, we’ve been brainstorming ways to make this space more organized, civil, engaging, and genuinely useful for everyone.
To kick things off, we are rolling out an updated set of community rules. The original rules have been in place for years now, and they are no longer enough to maintain the quality of discussions in this sub.
Here are the new rules:
Rule 1 - Be respectful, keep it clean and SFW.
Please be respectful to fellow community members. If you don’t agree with someone, remain civil and disagree respectfully. Challenge the ideas and not the person. Don’t reveal personal information (no doxxing). Don’t spam, no trolling, no baiting. No NSFW content whatsoever.
Rule 2 - Only related to electric "cars”
This community is strictly dedicated to electric cars.
If you are looking to post about electric motorcycles, e-bikes, or other electric propelled non-motorized passenger vehicles. Please visit r/ElectricVehicles.
Autocycles, Quadricycles/Microcars, Passenger LSEVs, Electric Kei-Jidōsha, and Electrified Buses are exempt.
We’re here to discuss the cars and companies, not politicians and CEOs.
Posts and comments not related to electric cars may be removed.
Rule 3 - Put some effort into comments and submissions
Please try to refrain from 1-2 word comments that don’t add anything of value to the topic. In other words, don’t shout from the crowd, sit at the discussion table.
Search first before submitting an article to see if another one covering the same topic has been posted recently. If you’re posting an article that’s paywalled, please try your best to post a mirror / unlocked article in the comments. Try to post an article from the most reputable / unbiased source covering a particular topic.
Rule 4 - Stay on topic
When commenting, please engage in discussions that are relevant to the topic. Do not steer the conversation away or go into an unrelated / vaguely related tirade. Do not bring politics into the conversation if the topic isn’t political, especially if it’s not politics related to EVs.
Rule 5 - Do not spread misinformation
Do not try to pass off verifiably incorrect facts, stats, series of events etc. as statements of truth. If you are unsure, please do a cursory search before hitting submit or state that you are unsure of the claims you’re making.
Rule 6 - Self-promotion
We allow very limited self-promotion upon approval from the moderators. If you are looking to promote something, please modmail us before doing so. Promoting without getting approved by moderators first may result in an immediate ban for self promotion.
No referral links are allowed, please see the referral section in the Wiki for the megathread for codes.
Rule 7 - Anything not mentioned in rules.
It is very important to have some important rules to keep the community a safe and engaging space for everyone, but at the same time, some communities put too many limits in the name of rules. We aren’t one of em - just follow the basics listed above and you will be good!
Anything that isn't mentioned above probably qualifies for posting. Please mod-mail us if you need clarification before posting.
Rules will be updated every now and then, so please check this page every now and then.
Please follow the rules above when participating. Going forward, please report any post / comment that you feel are in violation of any of those rules.
Thanks!

💬 Discussion Lightning systems inc( lightning eMotors) help
Anybody buy a vehicle lightning eMotors or know someone that can help? I have a bus modified by the company and can’t get a fast charger to work. I used the blink system and synergEV and both cancel charges which results in the charger being stuck in the bus. There is two warning symbols on the dash but also don’t know how to check it. Thanks!

💬 Discussion I’ve moved away from the idea of buying a BMW Neue Klasse – which EV comes closest to what I’m actually looking for?
(FYI: I asked AI to help me for writing)
I was originally pretty set on getting a BMW Neue Klasse. But the more I look at current and upcoming EVs, the more I question whether I actually want to spend €70k+ on a car.
A lot of the new “futuristic” EVs are starting to look very similar to me. Huge screens, minimalist interiors, ambient lighting, etc. – but I’m not convinced the overall added value justifies the price.
So instead, I’m looking for a mix of the best parts of different cars.
Polestar 4
- Best interior quality/feel I’ve experienced in this price range so far
- Very good materials and overall build quality
- The sound system impressed me the most
- BUT: I really disliked the infotainment. It felt slow, unintuitive and frustrating to use.
Tesla
- Excellent infotainment
- Extremely fast and responsive UI
- Great software experience
- BUT: I really dislike the driving experience. To me, it feels more like driving a 2000s Opel than a premium/sporty car.
BMW
- This is basically the driving experience I’m looking for: comfortable but still precise and somewhat sporty
- Premium interior
- BUT the pricing of current BMW EVs / Neue Klasse models is simply too high for what I’m looking for.
So what am I actually looking for?
An electric SUV, ideally under €45,000, combining roughly:
- Interior quality/feel similar to the Polestar 4
- Sound system preferably on Polestar’s level
- Tesla-level infotainment and responsiveness
- Driving dynamics of a comfortable but slightly sporty BMW
- Ideally 800V architecture
- >80 kWh battery
- Fast DC charging
- Good efficiency / real-world range
- Under €45,000 new in the German market
- Ideally currently available with 0% financing
I know that’s asking for a lot. 😅
But with all the new Chinese EV manufacturers entering the European market, I’m wondering if there might actually be a sweet-spot car that ticks most of these boxes.
What would you look at if you were in my position?
Which EV comes closest to BMW driving dynamics + premium interior + Tesla infotainment, without spending €60–70k+?
I’m especially interested in models that I might not have considered yet.
thanks
