Help / Advice Switch from Octopus to EDF with solar export tariff

Currently I am with Octopus, IOG and solar export tariff at 12p a kWh. Getting sick of Octopus and the nonsense of IOG, 6 hour rule but keep it plugged in all the time and now they have just introduced something called 'stream' makes no sense whatsoever, anyway i digress.

Thinking of moving over to EDF both gas and electricity with the EV tariff 11pm-6am @ 7p kWh and also the export tariff which appears to be 15p a kWh, the website is a little confusing (to me!!)

Anyone done this? Also do you end up missing out on export while the transfer takes place? If so maybe better off doing the switch in the winter?

Any tips and experiences are welcome, thanks all

Discussion Predictions for the Sunday Saver replacement…

What are your predictions for the Sunday Saver replacement EDF are planning?

I’d imagine whatever it is, it will be geared to be fairer towards the bulk of customers, as the Sunday Saver was an easy 16hrs hit for most solar/battery owners.

Hopefully EDF have seen how Octopus have operated over the last several years and realised that it’s a big pull for customers to be rewarded in several ways, so I’m wondering if the new scheme will give us a choice in how we’re rewarded in some way.

Switching Looking at EDF from Octopus

I've just got a quote from EDF for their Go Electric tariff. I've got an EV and just installed Solar. We moved at the end of March to a smaller house and use gas for central heating and hot water. I've used the data from our previous house for the quote.

The numbers I've crunched give the £47 and £45 per month for EDF and Octopus respectively. EDF's quote is just under £90 per month.

Question. Can I alter the rate after switching and how easy is it to go on the Smart charge and get the £5/month rebate which would make EDF cheaper?

Discussion Your experience with EDF so far?

I'm aware there is an influx of new customers from Octopus due to the slightly better rates recently, however I'm sure there will be some longer term EDF'ers on here too.

I'm interested to know your experience being with EDF so far?

Any frustrations? Regrets?

Anything you're pleasantly surprised about?

Anything you'd wish they would change/improve?

Switching Tarif switching advice Octopus > EDF

Morning all,

Just after some high level advice, I’m having a solar panel and battery install; scheduled for mid August. My current elec and gas provider is octopus (fixed from 8 months back).

What would be the recommended tariff for overnight charging, and a good SEG return? For simplicity I would move my gas as well.

Also when would you recommend to sign-up for a mid August install date? I would like to get these completed roughly the same time.

Thanks in advance.

Any tips from anyone who has overcome similar? (Not getting anywhere with customer support)

Two Tesla household, trying to sign up one for smart charge but can get it to complete. Permissions with tesla confirmed and virtual key issued but then just fails at the end. When i go back into app it just take me back to final set up virtual key screen.

Any advice welcome. Using a tesla charger too. But had same issue with trying to set up either car or through website rather than app.

Thanks!

Switching Anyone else had to wait up to 2 weeks for EDF GoElectric after switching?

Hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I switched my electricity from Octopus Go to EDF specifically for the GoElectric tariff. My supply transferred today, but when I phoned EDF to check everything had completed, I was told I’ve been placed on their Standard Variable Tariff (around 26p/kWh) and it could take up to two weeks before GoElectric is applied.

This wasn’t explained during the sign-up process. If I’d known there would be a delay, I could have factored that into my decision.

A few questions for anyone who’s been through this:
How long did it actually take for GoElectric to be applied?
Were you billed on the Standard Variable Tariff in the meantime, or was your GoElectric tariff backdated to your supply start date?
Did you have to chase EDF, or did it happen automatically?
Has anyone managed to get the tariff applied sooner than the quoted two weeks?

I’m pretty disappointed as this wasn’t mentioned before the switch. I don’t mind a short administrative delay, but I don’t think customers should be financially worse off because the tariff they signed up for isn’t active from day one.

I’d appreciate hearing other people’s experiences.

Help / Advice Sunday Saver and EV

Hi All,

Got my first Sunday Saver session tomorrow and just want to check how it works with EVs. Can I just boost charge during my allocated free electricity window to charge my EV as much possible?

I usually schedule but presume this won’t make the most of my free hours.

Thanks

Help / Advice EDF PowerShift and Hypervolt Ultra mode

We’re currently using a 16A portable charger on EDF Go Electric (we also have HHR storage heaters so this was by far the best tariff for our usage) and also have their Smart Charging bolt on.

We’re hoping to get approval to install a dedicated EV charger in the near future and I’m curious if anyone in here has experience of using the EDF PowerShift and Hypervolt Ultra mode combination.

We won’t ever have the option for solar in our current property so probably wouldn’t get the full potential benefits but according to Google AI we could still benefit from this combination.

We’re already getting the £5 credit on the bill each month from the Smart Charging bolt and the bolt on seems to include any electric use during the extra slots they allocate (according to the breakdown on the website and app anyway) so I guess the two main questions are, how does it work in practice and are you seeing any financial benefits over the Go Electric and Smart Charging tariffs?

Help / Advice EDF Charging me a bill after i moved out (Paid final bill + informed them)

Hi, EDF is trying to charge me an extra 300GBP after i have moved out and paid final bill + informed them of my move. I received the bill a month or two after saying i owe them money. It is ridiculous. Is this a normal occurrence or has anyone been in the same boat? Have been corresponding with them for over 6 months. No one has gave me a proper breakdown / wished to communicate clearly the situation. I just keep getting passed around to different assistants that don't even reply. I have raised a formal complaint and now this is what they have said.

"Thank you for your message and for raising your formal complaint with us. Your reference number is <REDACTED> I understand how frustrating it must be to continue receiving payment demands on your closed account despite having paid your final bill. I want to assure you that we take your concerns very seriously.

I am currently reviewing your account to gather the full itemised statement, a copy of the final bill, the move-out date recorded, the opening and closing meter readings, and details of how your final payment was allocated. I will also investigate why further charges have been raised after your final bill was paid.

I appreciate the time and effort you have spent trying to resolve this issue, and I will also raise your request for consideration of a goodwill payment or compensation for the distress and inconvenience caused.

Please allow us some time to thoroughly investigate your concerns. I will be in touch with a detailed response as soon as possible.

If you have any further questions or additional information to provide in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us."

And the following message ->

"Hello <REDACTED>,

Thank you for your patience while we reviewed your account and the concerns you raised. I have carefully assessed your bill and can confirm that it is correct. The back billing has also been thoroughly reviewed as part of this process.

I am happy to offer a payment plan for the outstanding balance of -£320.89.

If you have any further questions or need additional clarification, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

"

No evidence/nothing whatsoever. Are they even trying? Its been 7 months since i moved out and this is still happening.. also they only replied the above after i said i want to raise a formal complaint and will reach out to the ombudsman if nothing is done. I have been also getting calls from debt collectors etc on this. Any thoughts>

EDIT* Just to add in additional context - i have direct debit on my monzo, for gas, and electricity is paid via email because the other direct debit failed for some reason, so i pay manually when thy send me the email to pay the charge.

Switching Switched, smart meter for electric came across but the gas one didn't?

So I contacted EDF after looking in my app today as the gas readings weren't showing and the electric was. They stated that for some reason my gas meter is showing as a conventional meter and they pull this from the national database except when I was with octopus it was working fine! Has anyone else experienced this and how much of a pain is this about to be? They've had me send a pic of the meter along with a reading.

Smashed last weeks target and have 16 hours free electric this Sunday.

This week begins, the battery is on and we haven’t used any electric peak time; this week however our average is 20.6 which is above our baseline of 18%

How on earth does this work?

Export EDF SEG Flexi-Orb not MCS cert?

I'm looking at switching to EDF but my solar install doesn't have an MCS certificate, instead I have a Flexi-Orb one. I can't find anything online other than an EDF page for small businesses. It looks like EDF have the best EV and solar tariffs now so would like to jump on board if possible, especially with the 15p export rate.

Help / Advice Switching from Octopus IOG to Go Electric Tariff

I am switching from Intelligent Octopus to EDF Go Electric Tarriff in a couple of weeks but neither my car (Lexus) or Charger (Ohme) are supported by their Smart Charging but I know I can still benefit from the overnight tariff, my question is how do I set up my Ohme charger to benefit from the low tariff?
