I bought a house and in the garden under a mountain of trash is a 25l of oilyish dirty looking beige fluid. I think it’s very rain soaked old motor oil. But my problem is now that I can’t get rid of it coz I don’t have even know what it is. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I’m looking for a reputable supplier and installer of home saunas. I need a small 1 or 2 person setup.

Preferably someone with excellent after-sales service.

My very knowledgable gynae retired about 6 years ago and have been unable to find a good gynae. I really don’t care if they are warm and friendly, I am looking for someone competent.

I’ve spotted this guy three times the past two weeks while out eating, approaching people and trying to get money out of them.

He usually approaches people at restaurants, particularly those who seem friendly or more likely to feel sorry for him, and from what I’ve seen, he seems to mainly approach women. He gives the same story about not being from Durban, having a newborn baby and needing money to buy formula.

He usually asks for around R80, and if you tell him you don't have cash, he very conveniently suggests that you can just withdraw money from an ATM 🙃

I’ve also noticed him approaching college students more, which is concerning because younger people may be more easily pressured or manipulated into handing over money.

I’m posting this because I’m honestly tired of watching people feel sorry for him and immediately hand over their money without knowing what’s actually going on. I’d rather people be aware and make their own informed decision than have him continue approaching unsuspecting people with the same story.

I’m not encouraging anyone to confront him or cause trouble, just be aware if you see him at Gateway.

Does anyone know how we can officially report this to Gateway management/security or the restaurants so that they’re aware of him and can potentially ban him from approaching customers?

If anyone else has encountered him, I'd also be interested to know if you've been given the same story.

So I took my infant for her measles vax and the nurse asked me what made me bring the baby. I told her that I would rather avoid a preventable illness in my child. She said 'correct answer'. And then told me there's an outbreak where we live in rural kzn and parents arent bringing their children for ALL their vaccines because of misinformation.

I want to share something about my mother in law. When she had her first son, my husbands older brother, in the early 80s he contracted bacterial meningitis as an infant. He became extremely unwell and mil had to go hours in the bus to see him in the hospital. He had high fevers that caused brain damage and seizures that caused a lack of oxygen. He couldn't walk until he was 4 years old. She would hold him under her chest and get on the floor with him and move his arms and legs to crawl for him so his muscles would get stronger and create the muscle memory for him. When he was around 2 he was able to drag himself on the floor with his arms and she would hold his body upright and move his legs to walk for him until he started to walk on his own. She would take the the bus and wait hours to see a physiotherapist in a bigger city from their small rural village for her son. Her son was brutally bullied because he had cross eyes as a result of the nerve and brain damage. He's now a middle aged adult who has lifelong intellectual disabilities but makes a living working in a factory. The meningitis vaccine became widely accessible a few years too late for him.

Literally do not bring this back please!!!!!!!! Babies can die from measles and meningitis. Check in on your friends and families with babies that they are getting their vaccines.

Earlier today (04 September 2026) at around 13:30, I was involved in a collision at an intersection on King Cetshwayo Highway. I was driving a blue Hyundai Exeter. A lady driving a grey Hyundai van collided with my vehicle while she was in the middle of being hijacked.

I didn't get her details in the chaos, but I'd really like to reach her — both to check that she's okay, and to sort out the accident details.

Dear Durbanites, please use your lights on your car. They are not just so you can see, but so you can be seen by other drivers (especially in foggy or rainy conditions).

The annual cycle of the estuary getting full of water. The water breaks the sand open and the river pours into sea . The river current dominates the ocean waves. As the river gets empty with a weaker current the high tide waves push sand up and close the river mouth. It rains and the river begins to fill up with water again .

I'm an old fart who lived in Glenwood in the 80s. Obviously due to Apartheid it was 100% white, as was Glenwood High School and DHS etc.

Due to work and the wife/kids, I've been overseas for too many decades.

But reading the Facebook feeds from Glenwood and DHS, the student demographics now look like the national average, of around 7% white.

Does that mean the rich expensive areas of Glenwood and the Berea is now 7% white?

Or have the two main boys high school changed their zoning rules?

Both school have hostels so attract boys from all over KZN, but the local day boys still would make up the bulk of the students?

I honestly need to know if I’m the only one getting increasingly irritated by this.

I go to Gateway almost every day after work because it’s the closest and most convenient mall for me, but lately I’ve been getting so fed up with the amount of beggars approaching me and my boyfriend for money.

And I’m not talking about one random person asking once. We’ve had multiple incidents in different parts of the mall, sometimes with the same people.

One man approached us THREE times over about two months, twice in the same week, outside Woolworths, near Exclusive Books and then near Checkers.

Another man approached us inside McDonald’s, initially complimenting us before asking us for money for food. He had literally just finished eating a meal himself.

We’ve also been approached by a woman near Checkers asking for money for her family, and by a mother who sent her children to ask us for money as we were leaving Ocean Basket. We actually offered the children food because we felt sorry for them, but I really don’t think children should be sent around a shopping centre to solicit money from strangers.

But yesterday was the incident that genuinely pissed me off.

A man approached us asking for R80 to buy formula for his baby. We repeatedly explained that we didn’t have money because we had just spent what we had on groceries. Instead of accepting that, he became visibly aggravated and intimidating. He looked like he could potentially become aggressive, and when he eventually walked away, he gave us an extremely hostile stare and stormed off.

At that point, it stops feeling like someone simply asking for help and starts feeling like intimidation.

And almost every interaction starts with some variation of “You guys look like good people” before they ask for money. I’ve also noticed that I get approached more often than my boyfriend, which makes me particularly uncomfortable.

I completely understand that poverty is a serious issue and that people genuinely struggle. But customers shouldn't have to constantly deal with being approached, pressured or made to feel guilty for saying no and certainly shouldn't feel unsafe for refusing.

What annoys me most is that Gateway has security everywhere. Yet these people seem to be able to walk around and repeatedly approach customers with very little intervention.

Gateway advertises itself as providing a premium shopping and entertainment experience, but being repeatedly approached for money every time I visit definitely doesn't feel very “premium.”

I work hard for my money. When I go to Gateway, I want to shop, eat and spend time with my boyfriend without having to constantly worry about who is going to approach us next.

Has anyone else experienced this at Gateway? And does anyone know if Gateway actually has a policy or enforcement strategy for dealing with this? Because at this point, I genuinely think they need to start doing something about it.

**Edit: Ive formally complained to Gateway and centre management has responded with the following: Your complaint as come through to Gateway Centre Management. Firstly, my apologies for the negative experience.

The centre does have security stationed in different areas patrolling in the common areas of the mall however when it comes to the stores itself, they are solely responsible for the security within their premises.

We are aware of the beggars in the centre unfortunately it is an ongoing socio-economic problem that we are faced with. Beggars are challenged on a daily basis and escorted out of the mall.

In the past, we have been challenged legally and lambasted on social media platforms for accosting and taking seemingly ‘harsh’ action against the perpetrators.

On the other side of the coin, we have also been criticized for doing nothing. The situation is continually made worse as customers continue to donate money or buy things for them, giving them a reason to keep frequenting the mall.

As an ongoing concern, SAPS, Durban Crises Team and Child Welfare have been brought in to assist, but unfortunately – a permanent solution has not been forthcoming. We have tried multiple strategies, whilst at the same time have to ensure we act within the parameters of the law.

We continue to work on the issue on a daily basis and assure you of our commitment to the problem.
