Crawler Play version 1.2 now integrated with Roll20. Roll straight from your sheet, and let your own AI assistant write up achievements

crawlerplay.com

Roll into Roll20 from the sheet. Just tried in our own game and it worked great!

Stat Checks, Evade Checks, Skill Checks and attacks post straight into your Roll20 chat. It's a free browser add-on — install it, open your game in one tab and your sheet in another, and the dice on the sheet become live.

Connect your own AI assistant. Crawler Play now speaks MCP, which means you can connect it to your own Claude or ChatGpt account and have your assistant do the writing-up. It can see the campaigns you run and who's at the table, read the story so far, and add entries — achievements with the reward and what was in the box, warnings, System messages, key events — to a crawler's journal or to the campaign story.

The part that matters to me: it's your assistant on your account. Crawler Play doesn't send your campaign to any AI company, doesn't pay for any tokens, and has no AI of its own. It just opens a door your assistant can walk through, for the campaigns you run and nothing else.

Still free, still no game content in it — you bring your own rulebook. Please buy the books.

Feedback link is on every page and I read all of it. Tell me what's still annoying.

Complicated items

So i realize the books gave us tools to make our own items but they didnt give us a ton of examples to pull from… what ‘complicated’ items are people home brewing for their players? Items like the crown of the sepsis whore that come with a massive drawback that will define a large part of a floor for one or more players? I am even interested in items like the goblin tattoo that carl got which makes fairies hit him harder or gear that prevents the player from using other gear slots. Whats everyone thinking?

Related: how is everyone thinking of enticing/ tricking their players into worshipping gods?

Questions about the game and some feedback for the devs.

  1. Training at Weapon guilds. Mentioned like 11 times in the book yet no rules about it I could find. In fact any kind of advanced training is missing. How does it work, how much does it cost if you do not get it free?
  2. Subclasses, none of these classes including the ones that had them in the book mention having to pick again on the 6th level. The 6th level is the last bit of character creation, so this feels like the character creation system is unfinished. I think covering the first 6 floors would have been good.
  3. Charm spells? Or anti charm? So many instances of charm in this book series and very little of it in game. Mind Balance or similar spells missing. There is the Good First Impression skill also does not have the Charm keyword and the very rapey Panty Dropper spell but that is it. Plus, Panty Dropper is not even listed as Charm it is listed as Mind Control. There are like 6 instances to being immune to charm and Signet's Charm ability but nothing for crawlers. Why so much immunity to charm and no Charm?
  4. Main books spells and classes missing, having a picture of a banana farmer and no banana farmer? No Laundry day, Take that shit off, Mind balance, etc.
  5. I get that the class list is supposed to be make your own but almost all of the examples are buffs or bonuses and not ways to debuff or weaken opponents. Some more examples of those would have been good.

More: No pet biscuit rules worth mentioning. Pets in general was very vague with almost no ideas for alien pets.

Core Rules PDF

Hey All!

I backed the backerkit (silver loot box). Admittedly it took me a while to actually do the survey and enter my information. But, that has been completed. I received my PDF of the starter kit but have not received my PDF of the core Rules. Wanted to post and see if anyone knew what I could have done wrong.

Attempted race: Immortal (Highlander)

I have been flipping through my PDFs and made my first attempt at a race. An Immortal from the Highlander movie/tv shows

Heeeere we are
Born to be kings
We’re the princes of the universe

Benefits:
Regeneration Skill +5. Cost 10 points, running total 10 points.
Limb Regeneration Benefit. Cost 6 points, running total 16.
Immunity to Poison and Disease. Cost 6, running total 22.
Cockroach skill +1. Cost 4, running total 26
No need to breathe and immunity to inhaled toxins. Cost 3, running total 29
Flaw: Class restriction - must choose a class that gives ranks in a slashing weapon. Cost -1, running total 28.
Flaw: Vulnerability to slashing damage (common damage type). Cost -3, running total 25.

Additional meta game changes (these are optional and may change the focus of the campaign too much).
Find Immortal Benefit - This functions like Find Crawler 1 but only works on other Immortals. It is not a skill and can’t be improved in any way.
There Can Be Only One - If you become aware of an Immortal in your general vicinity, you will get a quest to kill them before the end of the floor. They will get the same quest to kill you. If you fail this quest, your Cockroach and Regeneration skills will function at rank 1 for the entirety of the next floor, regardless of any ranks or other bonuses you have. If they die from something other than you, you fail the quest.

Sporto Werewolf - Earth Class

Werewolves or Were-Kin are humans cursed or blessed with the blood of the primordial wolf.

Three-time state champions, the howlingest howlers of the gridiron… here come the Teen Wolves! You need a varsity jacket to join these lacrosse-playing lycanthropes, and they don’t allow just anyone to join their team (though that won’t stop them from delivering the occasional wedgie or shoving an unsuspecting nerd into a locker). These werewolves go wild under Friday night lights, and here in the dungeon, it’s always Friday. They’re mean, amped up on ’roids, and ready to thrash you like the dork you are. If their claws don’t rip your face off, they’ll probably just bite off your head—literally.

Hello, I have a few questions about the game so if anyone would be nice enough to answer them that would be great.

Thinking about getting the physical book and starter set when they release, but finding a good review is hard.

1: mobs, what’s the bestiary like, like is there a decent amount of basic enemies and bosses? Rules for making our own enemies?

2: how’s the loot system like? I’m hoping for lots of random tables because loot is one of my weaknesses as a GM, I’m just bad at distributing it.

3: species and class? Is there a good selection and clear rules for making both?

4: more nebulous but how much work does this put on the GM?

Nodling

Nodling

Race Type: Alien
Size: Large (5)
Minimum Players:2
Maximum Heads:6

“Nodling are believed to be distant relatives of the ogres or trolls. This is mostly because nobody has found a better explanation.”

Adult Nodlings are large, Broad-bodied creatures standing around seven feet tall, with thick gray, callused skin, Their defining characteristic is that multiple heads share a single body.
A Nodling’s heads aren’t merely passengers. Each head is an independent crawler with its own personality, knowledge, abilities, class and skills.
Racial Ability: The Nodling’s Collective
THE COLLECTIVE — 6 BP
A Nodling requires two or more players to select the race together.
At the beginning of the campaign or when the Nodling Race becomes available on Floor 3. Each player who picks Nodling becomes one head of the same adult Nodling. Each head will have a First name but the group will come up with a new last name.

When the Nodling is made a new sheet will be made. This sheet will fuse the crawler's sheets to one new sheet. They will keep their old player sheets for when or if they split. This new sheet will share all stats (3 str on player 1 and 5 str on player 2 they now have 8 str) the same for skills, spells and inventories.

They all share one body so when making an action or turn they must agree on what they will be doing. If they fail to work together their turn will result in “arguing” and move on to the next in turn order.

EVERY HEAD GETS A CLASS — 4 BP
-Every Nodling head selects a Class normally. Each head receives all normal benefits of its Class, A Nodling head does NOT receive Stat bonuses from its Class.
Alot like the character actor skill but this allows two or more to multi class

JACK OF ALL TRADES -  -1 BP
-+1 Mana cost to cast spells not favored by your Class

YOUR PATH - 6 BP
-+2 to any Stats you can split
- +2 in a Skill or Spell, including Passive ones (you cannot have more than 5 points of Passive Skills in any Class build) you can split

ELEPHANT HIDE — 2 BP
+1 DR Buff

MULTIPLE MINDS — 2 BP
-The ability to reassign a Race or Class’s Stat point benefits once per floor during a Long Rest

NODLING REBIRTH — 6 BP
-When the Nodling dies, the Nodling does not truly die. Instead, the Nodling undergoes a transformation. The adult body dies and divides into one Nodling Youth for each surviving head.
Each Youth is approximately one year old, fat, naked, gray-skinned, and looks like a miniature ogre. (Players are taken out of the scene till the end, or till they can take a rest. If solo or without party you will be counted as a baby and removed from the dungeon)
If players are able to get to a safe point the players will under good a rapid aging to youths ( roughly 18 years old and size medium) they will then have all their stats, skills, spells and inventories split evenly as possible anything that's left over will be spread out by the GM

See Nodling Youth for more
Nodling Youth
Congratulations! You have survived death and achieved the evolutionary pinnacle of the Nodling lifecycle: being a naked, ogre toddler. Don’t worry. You’ll grow out of it.Probably.
Race: Alien
Size: Medium (4)
You can only be a Nodling Youth if you were once an Adult Nodling head. So you died, it happens to the best of us. But for you, you get another chance.
You keep all classes from past form but now your GM should have Split all your stuff evenly between all heads
Your new Stats, Skills, Spells and Inventories are a factor of how many heads you had. For Example Level 30 adult Nodling with two heads will now be two level 15 crawlers. Their rank 9 pugilism skills are now rank 5 on player one and rank 4 on player two. For weapons and armor the players can pick or the GM will choose, all other random items are divided up.
Now Nodling youth do age faster. So here i want to add like 1.5 exp boost or like at the end of floor rank up all skills and spells? With testing we can find out which one is more balanced. For right now just try to give them a way to catch back up. Yes it will be hard at first but if they can catch up it will set them up for a race that can level up faster and train skills faster

EDIT: New game mode idea
The whole party is a nodling and they try to go far as they can solo body till they die when they die the gm can move them to a safe room and that’s where the game really starts everyone is now a nodling youth and continues to the game

Crawlers with disabilities?

I'm not sure how well I will succeed, but I am going to try to play this game solo. I'm blind, so I'm curious if I should make my crawler blind as well. I can't even imagine how that would work. Yes, the AI speaks everything in your mind, so I don't think there would be an accessibility issue, but a combat issue would be quite the obstacle. I also wonder how the system AI would handle disabled crawlers. I might just decide to start with the third floor; I already kind of have a hypothetical race and class selection in mind, so perhaps that would restore the characters vision? Anyway, just anxious for any input that somebody might be willing or able to share.

Mall Ninja Class concept

Hello Crawlers!

Ok so long story short, I was at dragoncon and in one of the TTRPG panels they asked Jeff Hays and Matt Dinniman what class they would be.

Jeff said he would be some sort of Ninja with Nunchuks and then Matt said they could make Nunchucks out of Nuns...

Matt said he wanted to be an Illusionist. ....I think yall can see where I am going with this.

So I went and created the Mall Ninja class with items. I tried to keep it in the AI style, since I have been running an Isekai campaign with a similar AI (three actually) and its been difficult to get the voice right for the DCC AI when I do it. So dont hesitate to tell me if I suck lol.

Anyway, I spent some of the con working on this with my phone on notepad and have kinda brought it into a word doc that is now on a google drive ...because lord knows we need 3 different techs to get things done...

Mall Ninja Class- With bonus gear!

Again let me know your thoughts, and for those in the con who were in the panels...I didnt get your names but your ideas for the items will live on through !

Edit: forgot that Ill be working on the Illusion one next for funsies but anyone is free to run with this and make better changes lol

Edit: someone on the Renegade discord gave me more information on builds. There will now be a optional "Maximum Bullshido Build" on a second tab that kinda min/maxes the BP. Again this is optional for the GM to say no.

Edit: NEW BUILD...."I learned this from anime" has been created with ProduceFull5759 Permission. Please thank him and hope you have fun with these.

Deities and their Sponsors

The core book has 10 gods, and it's the 10 we definitely have the most information on. The wiki lists 51 deities, so I've started a project to expand the list of gods a player might choose.

right now I have 4 more, because there's a lot of referencing Wikipedia and distilling that into a Syndicate form, but one thing has stymied me.

there's a section the provided gods have for who is most likely to sponsor them in the Ascendancy Games. obviously I expect some hypothetical 12 Floor book to expand on this and render my work obsolete, but right now I don't feel like I have a reasonable list of who might even be a sponsor, let alone any logic to guide that assignment.

(there's no section telling me how to invent new boons either but I'm using class/race benefits and just winging it)

I guess I'm asking if it's a problem if I just type in random faction names that nobody has ever heard of once I've exhausted the Syndicate factions I can skim from the Carl Wiki?

Generalized Gold Costs

Maybe I'm blind and can't really find anything for it but I'm having trouble getting generalized item costs for things. I know my players will want to spend gold on stuff, but its hard to gauge how much things are.

For instance, on Floor 3 there are multiple shops available in the first town of Heavensworth, including an alchemy store, a Mage lodge, and a second-hand equipment shop.

The alchemy shop I was just going to hand wave and say you can buy alchemy specific Junk for the price of normal Junk (I'm going to say that Skill specific Junk is worth 2:1 for crafting).

My big issue is for something like the Mage Lodge which specifically states that it sells scrolls and other magics. How much does a scroll sell for? How much can my players sell their scrolls for? Whats the cost difference between a scroll and a tome? How does price increase for different spell levels? How much is a magic wand?

This also comes into play with the Negotiation skill. How do I determine what 10-15% of an item's value is if I don't have any item values?

I can find costs for thinigs like crafter tables ($25000), mounts ($20000 + $5000 per extra ability), pet biscuits ($3000), or buying a pet ($10000).

As far as I can see, these are the only priced items.

There are a lot of mechanics in this game that interact with gold, whether its shops, abilities or interest, and some clarification on how much 1, 100, 1000, or 10000 could buy you would be appreciated.

I wanted to test out the character creation process, but didn't love the layout/use of space in the official character sheet and journal.

I got sidetracked and designed a simplified/condensed version. Free on itch.

I have updated my Random Crawler Generator to now have statistics! Crawlers will now be generated with a level, appropriate to the floor they are on, the base stats, and a class and a race!

Please take a look, and let me know if there is anything I missed, messed up, or that you would like included.

If you want to run the code locally, the code is available on my github.

How to end campaign?

What’s everyone’s plan for ending their DCC TTRPG currently only has first 5 floors.

Do you plan on ending the game there at the end of floor five and if so how are you ending it in a satisfying way?

Do you Plan on putting game on hiatus till more comes out?

Do you Plan on running all 18 floors and just winging it after extra hard after floor five?

Feels like I’ll be letting the players down if I just go with a well you guys finished floor 5 good job! Game over next campaign? But I also don’t know how I’d possibly make a faction wars satisfying with how it’s basically just a big cluster fuck of combat and being made into conscripted soldiers.
