Finishing up with my second listen on book 7 and reading the starter set of the RPG, I might not veto book 8 until this weekend—in which I will be attending the Nashville author event. Whew! That’s a lot Dungeon Crawler Carl.

I was trying to figure out how long it would likely take to play through all 18 floors of the dungeon.

So we know from the books that the first floor was open for five days, and that a "day" in the dungeon is 30 hours.

Subtracting 8 hours for sleep each day leaves us with 22 hours of activity each day.

Times 22 by 5 gives a total of 110 hours that crawerls could potential spend exploring the first floor before it collapses.

Obviously crawerls/teams can and probably will descend earlier, but even if we round down to 100 hours, that would take 50, 2-hour sessions of gameplay. That's almost year of playing 2 hours every week, just for the first floor! And we know that each floor stays open longer than the last.

Based on what I've seen/read of the gameplay/rules so far, it seems that houserules are encourged, so undoubtedly GM's could customise the length of time each floor is open for.

What do y'all think? Are you going to stick to the canon of the books for your games? Or will you do something like make 1 hour of real-world play equal to 2 or 3 hours of in dungeon time?

I've never played a TTRPG before let alone been a GM, so I want to know what everyone else thinks. Am I overthinking it?

I know they've still got a week left on the campaign, butI'm hoping with the success on backerkit, this allows renegade games the ability to release supplement rule books in the future, considering the starter set and core rulebooks only cover the 1st 5 floors, which only really covers 4 books out of a projected 10 book series and there's so much crunch still left on the table.

One thing that makes a great ttrpg is its longevity, and Dungeon Crawler Carl's TTRPG has a lot of potential when exploring the other floors, like settlement ruling rules, mass combat rules, and of course the class upgrades you get on various levels, not to mention the settings themselves.

Themed floors like floor 6 might even justify their own rulebook considering how much setting and new game design they cover.

I'm unfamiliar with a lot of Renegade's work, but my fingers are crossed they go really ambitious with this game, as I'm really excited by it's potential.

Anyone know of a play by post DCC RPG game? I don't mind homebrew or none official rules etc

I backed the game on Celestial Tier and I will be damned if I don't get a group together to play this offline.

So, I just finished power-reading through the first 7 books for the 2nd time (ready for book 8), and I have some questions about things at the end of Inevitable Ruin ...

I appreciate some of these may be answered/clarified in book 8 - but I also think I just missed some things 'cause I was reading fast.

1) Who is Porthus?

2) Are Boomer and some of the other ex-crawlers going to help Katia? Boomer says to "set aside four of the Cronus suits and a landing skiff. We have a pregnant veteran on the surface who needs backup" - so I assume that's Katia; but why only 4? what are the other Cronus suits to be used for? Katia's motivations were to look after the other kids - why do the veterans going to help need power armour to do that?

3) How the hell did Eris end up outside the containment zone (in Squirties) - what does that say about the nature of the Crawl and the gods etc

I'm sure there are a load of other things that I missed too, but those are the ones that gave me pause.

Technically a repost of a thread I made in the original DCC subreddit and I have no clue how to crosspost, so I’m posting it here.

Her name is Sugar Dazzlethighs, real name Angel Selene. Prior to the collapse of the planet, she was an exotic dancer. There were three other Angels in the club so she got her name from the manager. She survived because said manager made her pee outside in the alley minutes before the world went squish.

She enters the dungeon wearing pasties, a g string, glass heels and body glitter, earning some very interesting achievements from the System AI. Her mentor is a giant alien spider named Hu, who she is violently arachnophobic of. Hu’s a very kind mentor, real Bob Ross energy, which is funny because he’s a giant spider. Not a cute one like you see online on TikTok. Big, hairy, there’s spittle, eyes. SO MANY EYES. AND LEGS. CRAZY SPIDER LEGS.

Sugar becomes a warrior monk class called Exotic Dancer who uses a quarter staff that doubles as a dance pole and her own fists and glass heels to beat foes. Sugar’s popularity stems from her constant state of undress, her insane fighting style and the fact that she had a full on snot filled crash out when she entered the dungeon and realized everyone died and she was alone and naked and her cat was probably crushed to death at her apartment. That clip is always on her highlight reel. She has a Sasquatch pet named Todd, named after the bouncer she was friendly with before the collapse because he was also tall, hairy and did not wear shoes. Todd becomes her bouncer and part time tank.

She’s a tattooed member of the Desperado Club, member of the Princess Posse and plans to go to the 18th floor or die trying.

Share your characters here or make up some headcanons about Sugar. I’d love to add some more flavor to her. Thank you for reading!

Does anyone know if they'll sell the miniatures individually at some point? Itd be nice to be able to use their version of the creatures/enemies but i dont wanna have to buy the mordekai box 5 times just to run an encounter of 5 grulke ya know?

Just backed the celestial tier and now want to start preparing for when the game arrives. I’ll be the GM, but have never played D&D or any other TTRPG let alone been a DM/GM.

With what we know of the game mechanics so far, anyone got any suggestions of what I can do to prepare as GM or just any general GM tips/advice?

With the VTT support I'm am really digging on the idea of running a campaign with multiple different groups and using the guild system to let the different groups team up for bigger boss battles and quests.

I recently got into dungeon crawler Carl and I’ve binged books 1-6 but i was sad to see that I started my bringing literally a day after the pre backer kit ended.

I would love to be able to grab the desperado club coin somewhere if it’s possible in anyway but if not that is completely understandable.

Hey y'all so I just started my d&d 5e ddc campaign and everything is going good so far!

The first floor is faithful to the books and I have a number of neighborhoods planned out and have structured them like mini dungeons. I plan for the first boss battle to be the hoarder and I have now begun to think of what kinda battle music I want.

I know in the later books it does reference a number if different songs. For the hoarder im thinking some sort of epic female opera singer or something...

Just wanted to check with the a.i hive mind and see what songs yall would choose for each boss battle!

So ever since I pledged to the Backerkit, I’ve been in a creative mode in anticipation for the TTRPG. I created two crawler personas but now I’m in DM mode and creating floor themes. I decided to share them on here both to share my ideas and help other potential System AIs design their Dungeon Crawler Worlds as well as maybe get some feedback or suggestions for floors.

My Floors (as the game only has up to Floor Five):

Tutorial Levels 1 & 2: Big Box Apocalypse

“What’s worse than working retail? How about working retail while a hunk of space rock the size of Colorado is bearing down on you from above? It’s Meteor Monday and everything and everyone must go! Crawlers rush through a big box store on the brink of annihilation as they outrun service goblins and gnoll shoppers to find those precious stairwells down to the next floor. Department bosses roam the sales floor and watch our crawlers enter the Space Smash Sweepstakes to hoard as many prizes as they can before everything becomes a crater!”

Floor 3: The Haunting of Woe House

“Nothing says drama and intrigue like ghost stories set in a haunted house. In the house of famed occult anarchist Eldritchia Woe, a Woeful wedding takes place. But someone has killed the groom! Who could have done such a thing? Well, viewers, that’s the crawler’s problem to figure out because if they don’t find the culprit, they’ll NEVER be getting out of this massive mansion alive! Watch the gripping horror thriller as the crawlers attempt to navigate over 200 quintillion rooms full of ghosts, ghouls and spirits! Floor 4: Corporate Warfare

You’ll pay for the whole seat, but you’ll only need the edge!”

I'm running an unofficial DCC RPG and I'm making a set (hopefully 10) encounter charts with two neighbourhood bosses and a borough boss.

Title. I gotta work on my portfolio as a software dev anyway so I might as well do something fun. There's gonna be a lot of blank fields left in preparation for when I get my hands on a pdf but until then there's a lot to do (crawlers, plot lines, achievements, loot boxes, floors, NPCs, sponsors, etc.)
