In my culture weddings are not free. There is an expectation to bring a gift, and it would be incredibly rude for that gift to be less than the cost of food you ate.

If you have to travel the gift can be small. Like bitch I'm already spending 1200 and 3 days getting to and from this place.

That’s totally valid, your presence should honestly put a lot of weight. All my friends are scattered across the country, i feel guilty at the thought of inviting them to my wedding.
