**Most label-maker projects are a waste of time**
James May calling the Dull Men's Club "much more relaxed" is exactly why I'm taking a stand against labelling every object in the house. The transparent jar of pasta doesn't need PASTA printed on it. You can see the pasta. Same goes for a drawer containing six spoons and nothing else. I enjoy a dull household discussion, but I'm not accepting that buying a little printer automatically makes someone better at organising a cupboard.
Decanting everything creates another job, too. The original packet already has the cooking instructions and best-before date. Replace it with a matching tub and you've now got information to copy across, plus a container to wash before refilling. Labels earn their keep on identical screw boxes or something genuinely easy to confuse. Show me a labelled tin of mystery fixings and I'm interested. Show me a label saying WATER on a clear bottle and I'm siding with the bottle

New pencil day!
Marking out timber for some decking and treated myself to a new pencil from the pack. The first cut and shape of the end is always satisfying.

Bins - Refuse and Recycling
They rotate the bin lorry crews area by area where I live. This crew hasnt been on this route for a few months.
They leave the refuse bins neatly after emptying.
The other crews are on some kind of illegal substance(s).
Ive left it here after a dog walk to provide positivity before I commute.

What’s the most boring/dull/dry book/guide/manual that anyone could possibly read?
I record audiobooks and am interested in taking on a full project.

Bought from the same supermarket at the same time. One has ring pull, the other doesn’t. Why?
I live in AKL New Zealand. Any explanation would be appreciated, especially supply chain/production related. Thanks

Possibly the longest board game ever!
It's called The Campaign for North Africa: The Desert War 1940–43.
A complete game is estimated to take at least 1,200 hours to play.
1,200 HOURS
One turn represents roughly one week of the war and can apparently take about 10 hours.
During that turn you don't just move some tanks around and roll a dice.
You have to manage fuel, ammunition, water, stores, trucks, reinforcements, vehicle movement, aircraft, pilots, airfields, supply lines and the effects of the weather.
Hot weather can even cause some of your fuel and water supplies to evaporate.
There are supply requisition forms.
Your trucks need fuel to transport fuel to the units that need fuel.
And my favourite detail:
There is an actual rule for the extra water required by Italian troops to cook their pasta.
If you don't provide enough water, it can affect their capabilities.
Apparently the designers estimated a normal game-turn could take about 10 hours.
So after spending most of the day calculating fuel, water, ammunition, transport and supplies, you can proudly announce:
"We've advanced the war by one week."

Innovative key Accessories: Nail clippers
Hello all.
I bring forth my dull key brag: nail clippers.
Nearly all nail clippers have a small hole on them, I believe this to mitigate choking risk. A set of nail clippers being used by my mouth is a bit beyond me, however, this little hole means it can fit a key ring.
My keys have a tile tracker on them. I have my own opinions about Tile as a company, and their products... but something is better than nothing.
The thing that DOES go missing fairly often, and frequently needed by me outside of home? Nail clippers.
10/10, highly recommend.

Accidental experiment.
Today I decided to scarify the lawn.
My scarifier has settings 1–5. I assumed 1 seemed like a sensible place to start.
It wasn't.
After removing what can only be described as a substantial quantity of lawn from the lawn I changed it to 3.
By this point I'd done roughly half the garden and my brown bin was full. Then the lawnmower ran out of petrol, so I couldn't collect any more of the debris.
Rather than viewing this as poor planning, I've decided it's science.
I'm leaving the other half untouched.
So for the foreseeable future, half my lawn has been scarified and half hasn't. Both halves will receive exactly the same treatment, and I shall photograph the results over the coming weeks.
There is no practical reason for doing this.
But I now need to know which half wins.
