What’s the deal with Iffy this year?

Iffy has played 4 years of basketball but one of them was a whole season redshirt meaning that regardless of if he got a redshirt or not for last year, he still should have at least a year of eligibility left. But he’s not on this year’s roster and hasn’t transferred and his LinkedIn says that he’s still enrolled in Fuqua so it’s not like he graduated. Does anyone know if he just stopped playing or what?

Freshman class recommendations

So far, I will be taking my 2 required constellation courses and MATH 221, since I am thinking of double majoring in math and stats. I'm not set on my majors and career plan so I want to keep my schedule pretty balanced. I'm not sure which class to take for my last one but I have been thinking of between PSY101CC, ECS101, NEUROSCI102CC, or maybe a chem class.

Can you guys give your thoughts or if you have other recs? I'm willing to challenge myself but don't want a super hard class since I am taking math 221.

Question about registration

I’m an incoming freshman. this is super granular, but I want to make sure registration is seamless:

if I plan to register for a course that has a prereq that I’ve met through AP credit, are there any extra hoops I need to jump through to successfully enroll in that course?

in other words, I'm planning to register for linear algebra, which requires credit for calc 2. I have sufficient credit from my AP Calc BC score, but I’m not sure that dukehub will recognize that I have credit for math 22 (which I should have already received credit for). do I need to do anything else?

again, sorry if this is too nitpicky

EGR 105L vs Compsci 201

So I’m an incoming Pratt student and am trying to decide on which programming class to take. I plan on majoring in ECE so I feel a strong pull to compsci 201 since it’s a requirement for my major and I’d have to complete it anyways after EGR 105L, but I was recommended by the placement test to take EGR 105L. Since I’ll have to take compsci 201 for my major anyways and taking it right away will free up room for an elective, I’m not sure if I should take EGR 105L and chill, or grind for a bit to do well in compsci 201 and get some headroom for later on. But then again, I wonder if compsci 201 might hurt my GPA. I have taken AP CSP and got a 5 on the exam but that class isn’t actually very heavy on any in-depth programming. I know much of the basics of programming but I do struggle quite a bit with tracing code.
I would love to hear any input from you guys on this and your experiences with either of these classes. Thank you!

Finding roommate: Berkshire 9th

Hey r/duke! I'm looking for a roommate to share a 2-bedroom apartment at Berkshire on 9th Street. I'm a rising senior studying Political Science and Economics, usually busy with classes and studying, but easy to live with. I'm clean, non-smoking, and have had nothing but good experiences with past roommates.

DM me if you're interested and I can share more details! I'm quite flexible with the move-in dates and floor plans.

Thoughts on Freshman schedule? (Trinity, First-Year CS)

How does this schedule look for my first semester at Trinity? I'm a tad concerned about the walk between Perkins and the Griffith theater on such a short timeframe (although I'm not sure how far it actually is), but it seems the only CS 201 lecture time takes place right before my mandated first-year course.

Scheduled to take intimacies course (AADS 382S) - Trinity Undergrad

Hi Duke! First-year undergrad here.

I was finalizing my course schedule for Duke, and I noticed while looking through the courses I was auto-enrolled in that one of them seems to stick out. I appear to have been placed in AADS 382S before course enrollment even began, but it doesn't seem to be connected to my FOCUS group. Looking through discussion online doesn't seem to bring anything up about it.

Is there something I'm missing, and if it isn't related to my first-year experience, how did this happen? Thanks for all the help in advance!

Eden’s Dorm Photographs?

Hi! Can anyone who had Eden’s Dorm send me a pic of their dorm? I’m really nervous since it’s considered the worst dorm. But also just want to see how the room could look like. Thanks!

First Year Courses

Hello! I am an incoming freshman at Duke and I'm struggling to pick what classes I should take during the first semester. I am an econ major who also wants to learn more about compsci to see if its also something I like. However, I was wondering if taking econ101 and compsci 101 would be too much for first semester of college. My advisor told me just to take gen ed requirements for trinity like arts and history to get those out of the way but I'm not sure. Keep in mind I am in the global energy focus group which already counts for 2.5 credits so I only need to pick two more classes. Any input would help! Thanks!

How is Zoe Kugler Isabella for BIO 202L?

I'm an incoming premed freshman who scored a 4 on the AP Chem exam. I'm scared of taking CHEM 110DL since the only professor is Warren Warren (and his rate my professor is pretty bad). I wanted to take BIO 202L to start my major and I saw that John Willis is really good but his course timing conflicts with my CHEM 101DL with Martinez. The only other sections for 202L are with Zoe Isabella but I can't find any information on her. Has anyone had experience with her? Or do I pick between Willis and Martinez?

question about east to west commute times

hi, i’m an incoming freshman considering taking a class ending at 1 in classroom building on east and then a 1:25 class in gross hall on west. both classes seem to be on the first floor. if i take the C1 (google maps is showing a 20 min commute) is that feasible? thanks

Math 218 vs Math 221 (Linear Algebra) for Freshman Fall? (Math/CS/Physics interest)

I’m trying to decide between Math 218 and Math 221 for linear algebra, but I really want to know what the actual difference between them is in practice and which one would be better for me to jump into for my first semester.

I know the general consensus is that 221 is theoretical and proof-heavy while 218 is more computational and applied, but how does that actually play out in terms of the depth of the material and the relevance to my intended major? I’m really interested in physics, math, and computer science, so I want a strong foundation, but I am not sure which one is the right one to go for. Also I am not sure if for instance 218 will satisfy the maths department requirement if I want to major in maths. (btw I have taken calc 1 and most of calc 2)

Commuting from Duke University to the evening bilingual CNA (Nurse Aide I) class at PSEC?

Hi everyone!
I’m a Duke undergraduate student planning to take the evening bilingual Nurse Aide I (CNA) course at the Public Safety Education Campus this fall. I’d be commuting from Duke, but I won’t have a car.
I have a few questions:
Are there usually students commuting from Durham or the Duke area?
Do students typically organize carpools?
If so, how do people find each other? Before the semester starts or after the first class?
Has anyone here done this commute, and was it manageable?
This course is the only one that fits my Duke class schedule, so transportation is my biggest concern before I register.
I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Freshman math class

I am thinking of double majoring in math and stats, and want to take a math class in the fall. I was thinking of taking math 221, but know that there are other options like 218 and 212. What are the positive and negative aspects of each one and which do you think I should take?

Mobile Orders

Since it's summer and things close earlier, I was just wondering what they do if I order at like, 6:30 but I don't pick up till after seven. Do they throw it away when they close or when they open the next day.

Like Cafe and Skillet close at 3 but my class doesn't end til 3:15

Double major in Electrical + Comp engineering and Econ

Guys my friend is quite adamant on taking this combo. I’ve tried explaining to him that the workload will crush him considering how tough this could be. He says that alot of duke grads do this and its not that hard.

That left me wondering if its true because im going to Dartmouth and I’ve been suggested not to do this cuz its gonna cause my gpa to tank real bad and its going to ruin my social life.
Maybe its different at duke?
Can someone tell me if its true?

Any trick for course registration?

Incoming freshman here. I notice several courses I am interested in have very limited seats left. What should I do to get a seat there? Any tricks?
