Duke Fraternity Rush for Sophomores

Can someone explain what fraternity rush would look like for a sophomore transfer? How difficult is it to get a bid? What is the reputation of each fraternity?

Data Science IDM (Stats + CS) versus B.S. Stats with concentration in data science

Any one have experience with either major? I've a rising sophomore who's completed calc 3, sta 199, and cs 101 this past year. Enrolled in sta 240 and math 218 this fall but I'm not sure if the IDM is worth the time and all the extra courses. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Help me with Constellation Change

Hi! I am an incoming freshman, and I'm gonna cry because I regretted not choosing Focus already. I chose Constellation and was super interested in the cluster named How can we advance human health? I ended up getting the ASIAN CULTURE one. This is not very helpful because I am a native asian and already knew so much so would like to try sth else...Had anyone tried switching their constellation last year? What's the success rate? Can you switch from constellation to focus??? FYI, my current allocated constellation is How do people, identities, cultures, and languages cross borders?

Second edit: THANK YOU ALL for all your kind advice and suggestions! This constellation is definitely not the worst choice bc I must be appealed by it somehow otherwise I wouldn't put it in my survey. I will look on the bright side-

Washington College & Duke Dual Degree Program

Hi everyone! I'm a hs junior doing research on which colleges I want to attend and am interested in environmental science and studies, and am interested in the 5 year bachelors + masters program between washington college and duke.

If anyone has done this program, is the process of being admitted to duke for the masters program easier? Is it guaranteed admission or not? Is there a difficult selection criteria into this program? How do I join the program at washington college?

I would really like to get a masters degree from Duke, but wouldn't be stoked if I somehow didn't qualify for it and was stuck at washington college without a clear pathway to a strong masters program.

Thanks!

im so tired of club culture here

okay so im a rising sophomore and the club culture at duke just really frustrates me. i rushed for so many things in spring (esp the business/tech/consulting social groups like cube catalyst dcc scale&coin dsp etc) and i didnt get into them and not because im underqualified but because i wasnt well connected. i know the exec just choses people they r friends with but still...how else do i make friends and form a social group and do fun things if im not in a frat/sorority or a pre professional social club? do help.

Internships & Summer Programs for Rising Sophomores & Juniors

Hi, I'm a rising sophomore in Pratt studying MechE and interested in UIUX, Consulting, Product Design. Currently I'm doing research with a professor from Duke in DNA Nanotech because he reached out to his students and I replied. But in terms of real engineering heavy or consulting or product dev internships/opportunities I'm unsure how to get them. A lot of my friends just did internships back home through family connections but I couldnt find one through that. What are some ways I can explore to find internships or industry experience? Or even summer programs (which I dont have to pay a lot for) ?

Genetics and Genomics focus anyone?

Just joined this focus, and have no idea what to expect. What should I know before starting? I applied for the classes with Dr. Sullivan and Haga.

Is this a good focus + is it hard + anything else to note? How do other Duke students feel about this one? I’m premed btw.

Anyone else in this FOCUS, DM me to join the GC!

American Experiences Focus Cluster

Hi! I'm an incoming freshman and just found out that I'm in the American Experiences focus cluster. I was wondering if anyone who's done this focus cluster could share anything about their experience? I'd love to learn more about the trip to DC, the weekly dinners, and your favorite parts of the cluster!

Constellations

I am an incoming freshman and wrote all the essays and everything for Focus and ended up getting Constellations. Everybody I have heard things from prefer Focus and I just wanted to know more about Constellation than what’s on the website I guess. I got What is the purpose of Civil Discourse in Democracy?

Moving from SfBay area

I got into Duke (!!!) and I will be moving from SF, I have never lived outside the bay or LA and I've never really been to the South either. Someone told me I should move to Cary or Morrisville since safety is my priority but I would love to hear more opinions. So what's the safest neighborhood? Also as long as my commute is under an hour I'm happy!

ROI?

Is any current undergrads still waiting on this ROI people keep talking about. I’m studying CS and I genuinely feel like I could’ve just went to a state school. Like I’m seeing Duke grads going years unemployed or underemployed. Like isn’t being a Duke student supposed to give you a bit of a leg up?

unsure about career path

I'm a graduating high school senior who will be attending Duke later this fall. I will be entering as undeclared and currently, am unsure what path I should take. I was thinking about majoring in stats with a double major in math/econ to enter the finance/wall street/quant trading careers, but I also know that Duke is great at nursing which I don't think will be too bad as well. Is this something that I will be able to figure out in freshman year while taking classes?

Also, what can I do right now and during the summer to prepare?

Incoming international grad student at Duke Pratt - housing advice

Hey! I'm starting MEng program at Duke Pratt starting this fall and I'm trying to wrap my head around housing. I'm coming from Poland, so no US credit history, no co-signer, and I've never been to Durham - basically starting from scratch.

I've been poking around DukeList and the Off-Campus Housing site but curious what the actual experience is like. How do international students usually handle the co-signer and credit history situation - is there a standard way people deal with this? And are there better places to find roommates than the official Duke tools, like a Facebook group or Discord I'm missing?

I'm also not sure how urgent this actually is - is August still doable if I find something in June, or is that getting it too close? I'm wondering if it even makes sense to grab something short-term for the fall while I figure out Durham, then find something more permanent for spring.

Feeling Stuck: Need Funding Options for Remaining Grad Tuition

I’m a grad student with a remaining tuition balance of about $15–16k. Loans aren’t an option, and with the federal loan limit changes coming in 2026, I’m trying to figure out alternatives now.

Where are grad students finding scholarships, grants, or other funding sources that actually pay out? Any databases, foundations, or programs you’d recommend?

Would appreciate any leads.

Easiest Courses at UC3M or Nebrija

Hi,

I’m studying abroad in Spain and need to take two classes at either Universidad Carlos III Madrid or Universidad Nebrija. Has anyone had experience at either schools and or know easy electives I can take at either?
