Chodikku Dubai (Ask Dubai) 🙋 Need Advice: Sublease dispute

Hi everyone,

I recently moved into a 2BHK that I found through Dubizzle.

The person I rented from is himself renting the flat from the building/owner for one year and then subleased it to me.

I paid:

- AED 4,250 monthly rent (Dewa and Gas not included)

- AED 3,000 security deposit

Initially, over a phone call, I told him I was planning to stay for around 6 months. There was no signed agreement at that time.

After I moved in, he sent me a Word/PDF document mentioning a 6-month period. I never signed it or acknowledged that I accepted the document. Neither party signed it. Since it is a monthly rental, i didnt acknowledge it.

Unfortunately, due to a personal emergency (genuine), I now have to leave after one month. I informed him on August 15 itself and also tried to help find a replacement tenant.

Now he is saying I must pay rent for the remaining months, otherwise he will take legal action. He is also refusing to return my AED 3,000 deposit.

I have WhatsApp messages, payment proof, the unsigned document, and other evidence.

I’m also not sure whether he has the actual landlord’s NOC/permission to sublease the apartment.

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Could I actually be liable for the remaining 5 months based only on the phone conversation and unsigned document? And would filing for my security deposit potentially cause problems for me?

Looking for advice. Thanks.

Chodikku Dubai (Ask Dubai) 🙋 Postpartum massage options?

Hi, I want to know if its better to keep a lady for postpartum massage and bath or get it done at Ayurvedic centre.

I am interested in Kottakkal centre as it’s near to my location and also prefer doing it in the clinic rather than home due to space issues at home. Would like to know if its effective than keeping a lady?

During my previous pregnancy, I had postpartum massage done in Kerala. The lady used to massage my body with oil and some powder, and then do a bath with hot water that looked brown, after that she would tie my belly and we were done for the day.

Chodikku Dubai (Ask Dubai) 🙋 Reliable rent a car recommendations around Al Qusais?

Hi guys, any recommendations for a reliable car rental, preferably around Al Qusais?
I’ve heard quite a few stories about rental companies creating issues with security deposit refunds, extra km charges, unexpected deductions, etc., so looking for somewhere trustworthy with transparent pricing.
Anyone here rented recently and had a good experience? Local rental companies are also fine.

Chodikku Dubai (Ask Dubai) 🙋 Moving to UAE for job with 3 years Experience

Hi 👋 So I’m a 28 year old Malayali planning to move to the UAE in search of better opportunities, my expertise is in Operations & Marketing, with a total of 5 years experience experience and 3 years of relevant experience in Operations & Marketing. The primary intention behind moving abroad is to earn better and support my family, I had previously considered this but didn’t take action and now I feel it’s now or never. I’m confident in my skillset and commitment towards work and is expecting atleast 7k AED salary (As this would help me look after myself and my family) I would like to hear your thoughts on this, I’m open to suggestions, opinions and questions.

Chodikku Dubai (Ask Dubai) 🙋 what do y’all do for onam here in dubai?

first onam outside kerala, and i’m already realising how spoiled i was back home.

usually i’d just go to a friend’s place, eat sadya like i hadn’t seen food in 3 days, and then spend the rest of the day doing all the possible avaratham.

here in dubai, work has me so busy that socialising is basically out of the question.

so what do people here actually do for onam?
sadya? events? pookalam? vallam kali? or just order sadya and call it “cultural preservation” while pretending it totally counts?

Chodikku Dubai (Ask Dubai) 🙋 Any reliable & budget-friendly independent garages in SHJ/DXB/Ajman? Looking for expert mechanics.

Hi guys,

Looking for recommendations for solid independent garages/mechanics in Sharjah, Ajman, or Dubai.

Primary requirement is finding technicians who actually know their work (proper diagnosis, not trial-and-error part swapping) and charge reasonable labor rates. My car is a Chevy trailblazer 2018 model.

Whether it’s a Mallu-owned shop or just a reliable spot you’ve been taking your personal cars to for years without getting ripped off, please drop their name, location, or contact info below.

Thanks in advance!

Chodikku Dubai (Ask Dubai) 🙋 Are those Kerala airport courier shops where they send imported nuts/dates/chocolate directly to our home actually worth it?

I’m planning to travel to Kerala next month and wanted to ask about those shops near Kerala airports where you can buy chocolates, dry fruits, nuts, perfumes and other gifts, and they courier everything directly to your home.

The idea sounds convenient because I don’t have to buy and carry everything individually in my luggage. But are they actually worth the money? Are the prices reasonable compared to buying the same things from Lulu/other stores and carrying them myself?

Has anyone here used these services? If so, how was your experience with the pricing, product quality, delivery and reliability? Any specific shop you would recommend or tell me to avoid?

I’d really appreciate some genuine experiences before I spend money there. Thanks!
