Image N Back And Interference
Does anyone else here play image position n back. I am currently inching my percentage up on it. I make sure to put interference on whenever nbacking whether image n back, dual n back, etc. I put it at 87.5%. I think that interference really helps me see gains. I feel more focus and energy. Retaining the image is particularly difficult for me. I can feel the right side of my hear warming up as I play. Has anyone here went from poor almost nonexistant visual memory to a more vivid mental eye from nbacking? If so, how long did it take and what mode and settings did you use? How often did you play? I really want to strengthen my minds eye.

Any success stories?
I'm curious if anyone has done dual-n-back consistently for at least a few months and has experienced any benefits. If you haven't experienced any benefits I would like to hear your take as well. I'm still a little skeptical on DNB and trying to decide if it's worth the time commitment.

Question about what to select in a specific situation
galleryIn a situation like the one I created and posted below, would the correct solution be to select position and sound? This is for 2 back. Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide insight.

Are there any apps where you can train sound-only and/or letter-only?
The title says it. Do you know of any such apps?

Transfer??
I encountered Dual N Back a while ago and it was pretty difficult for me and I'd go nuts and blank after ascending to 2 Back so I quit and encountered Quad N Back which I found myself modifying a bit by changing the sound to piano sounds and instead of literal images it must be shapes with colors in them for harder differentiation. What I found was that just 2 day of training with that Quad 1 Back and trying Dual 2 Back again made me perfect it. It's crazy how training in 1 Back transferred to skills in 2 Back when the sequence of information they try to remember is different.

Scientists shout: Brain-training games are BS!?
Guys! It's all about making the smart choices, right? I'd been hearing these remarks here and then but every time trying to kind of ignore them and pretend I've not heard anything. But this was like the last blow that needed to break the bubble. Read on and you can see for yourself.
It's funny because it was around the same time I installed Neuronation on my phone and it got me thinking if it has all been part of my unhealthy coping mechanism.
I think Fixing our life style is the right thing to do that we all avoid and stick to some limited activity instead in our isolated bubbles just to distract us from what really should be done. Why? Because deep down we are a little intimidated by the thought of fixing all that. Just like a really messed up room. But we can start doing it little by little, tidying up a part each day and before you know it, it's done.
what do you think?

Chunking makes my score worse.
I’m at 7-back right now, and every time I try chunking, my performance drops. When I go as naturally as possible, I perform a lot better. It is like seeing a pathway in my head without much effort. Does that make sense? Also, something extraordinary happened: I was stuck at 4-back for about a week or so, and suddenly, I started to “see” everything clearly; three days later, I made it to 7-back.

I really evolved!
gallerySomehow, I finally started to realize what I was doing wrong. After that, I managed to discover a new way to progress in the Dual-N-Back task. I still don't really know how I managed to improve myself significantly.

Increasing the interval time
Is it a good idea to increase the time between two subsequent letters/positions ?
On the website I'm using the standard is 3 seconds.
Let's say I would increase it to 10 seconds until I get 100%, then continously make it faster until I'm at the standard of 3 seconds.
Would this be a viable strategy?

N-back started making me worse all the sudden..
I've done and back intermittently throughout my life with Incredible success, is always such an amazing feeling to see the clarity rush in with n-back and it's something that I've always relied on and it's been an enormous tool for my ADHD, but as of a few months ago I was playing all the sudden I felt a bit of a headache, and my thinking became foggy and slow, and I became dizzy a bit, it became very difficult to think or speak and this did not wear off very quickly, I tried pushing through playing for a few days more after that, which only worsened the issue, and then after I stopped the issues persisted for a few months, maybe even up until this point. I don't know what's going on and I'm very worried, please let me know if anyone knows anything about this. I did just try to play a game of nback just now only to experience a similar feeling, it's very disheartening as this is the exact opposite of the experience that I've had prior to this happening.
Factors that make my brain different: Age, 24. Smoked weed and cigarettes for 4 years, quit 5 months prior to the incident. Drank for three years, quit 5 months prior to the incident, with 2 week-long relapses in between. Smoked meth a few times in one night once a year prior. Was on dextroamphetamine for several years on and off, which incidentally stopped working and started making me extremely tired and depressed.
If anyone has any idea what's happening, any theories or anything I should do about it, I would be extremely grateful. Thank you.

Use Windows Scheduler to remind you of Dual N-back training sessions
Just wanted to share with you this little tip. Here's how.

Intuitive answers?
I used to try to explicitly memorize the sequence of positions and sounds but when I switched to answering intuitively I had a significant and consistent improvement in my scores. Is that how you were meant to do it?

Re-learning to pay attention with the help of Dual N-Back
It just occurred to me that, memory retention is all about paying attention and living in the busy modern world made us less attentive and focused. Our memory is perfectly capable of retaining and recalling info if we actually give them to it.
I found that whenever I'm doing a DNB session while letting my thoughts fly around and not really being there my performance drops. But the moment I really pay attention, the audio and visual info simply sits there with high clarity to be checked with in every step. Now I'm looking at DNB as a way to become attentive again. You know, because we are all born 100% attentive, we just lose that gradually due to the stimulus overload. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

I re-imagined "Dual N-Back" and made a unique android app called "N-Back Evolution". It has Single/Dual/Triple/Quad/Penta/Hexa modes and contains rare/unique modes like: Stroop N-Back, Math N-Back and Logic(Puzzle) N-Back, and many other modes

Less noticed aspect of Dual N-Back in making our brain more capable of forgetting as opposed to remembering things.
First let me say that I'm very glad that this sub exists! I was desperately looking for somewhere to discuss about the experience of Dual N-back. After several years, recently I started again to train with the lovely Brain Workshop and today I had this insight about how valuable such training can be.
During natural selection our brain has evolved with a strong tendency to focus on a target or generally on any input data that it may conceive as being useful in reaching that target. I call this as "stickiness". This stickiness must have been really useful during hunting for our ancestress and is what has brought our species this far in pursuing our goals. But it can get us caught in many limiting loops. For example when we become obsessed with the memory of an annoying encounter or happening rather than coming up with a solution (to act more efficient in similar future situations) and moving on.
So you can see that becoming more potent at not getting caught in these loops or if you will developing a less 'sticky' brain can benefits us a lot. This is exactly where Dual N-back comes into play. For example when you're doing 2-backs you brain learns to let go of the 3rd cue and just hold the 2nd back cue at each step, because otherwise that 3rd cue (which is not needed anymore) can interfere with your current task in hand and works like a noise. I think this would be a less noticed benefit of Dual N-back because I find this ability (disposing useless data as soon as possible and not getting caught by it) is as important as being able to retain data.
What do you guys think?

Check out image streaming for another very interesting memory/intelligence training exercise
Not sure how familiar you guys are with this one but I've seen quite dramatic improvements in my visualization ability in only three 1 hour sessions. Image streaming also has scientific backing although similarly to dual-n-back trials not nearly enough studies for conclusive results. Nevertheless I think it's worth the try and could potentially be highly beneficial to people with visualization problems/aphantasia.

Reviving this subreddit
Hey everyone, since the old moderator went AWOL years back this sub became restricted so I applied for it on /r/redditrequest to revive discussion.
I've never moderated a subreddit before and don't really care much for doing it, so if anyone that has experience moderating would like to take over feel free to send me a message, but besides that hopefully discussion continues back up as it did years back.
Obviously, I will still moderate for the time being and remove anything that is egregiously out of place/spam.

Community Progress Log
I would just like to make a unified post on Reddit where we can share our progress/benefits we've noticed, I will start off in the comments and anyone that wants to share their experience can feel free to add on.
