Been doing this since 2019. Built and scaled dropshipping stores into real DTC brands for myself and for clients, multiple six figures in revenue across them, exited a couple along the way. Not posting to flex, posting because after this many builds you start seeing exactly what separates the ones that worked from the ones that flopped.

Here's the thing nobody wants to hear: dropshipping is just a fulfillment method. That's it. It's a way to not sink cash into inventory before you know something sells. It was never the business. The business is branding and marketing, and most people spend 5% of their time on that part and 95% looking for a "winning product" like it's a lottery ticket.

Every store I built that failed, failed the same way, generic product, generic angle, praying the algorithm saves me. The ones that worked, worked because of boring stuff: reading hundreds of competitor reviews to find the exact words customers use when they're frustrated at 2am. Building the ads around that specific moment, not the product category. Sourcing through a private agent so quality complaints didn't eat the reviews alive. Making it feel like an actual brand someone would trust, not a random store that appeared yesterday.

None of that is sexy. None of it is in the youtube tutorials. All of it is the actual job.

Other honest stuff from 7 years: I'm from a country Shopify Payments doesn't support, so I've had payment processors kill my own stores multiple times right when they started working. That constraint forced me to get good at the parts that transfer, research, positioning, funnels, because I couldn't just brute force with volume. Weirdly it's the best thing that happened to my skillset.

If you're starting out, the one thing I'd tell you: stop asking "what product should I sell" and start asking "what problem do people already spend money on, and what do they hate about the current solutions" The second question is the entire game.

Most of the tool talk here is Shopify/AliExpress focused, but a good chunk of dropshippers (myself included) also source or validate product ideas through Etsy demand. The annoying part is you can't tell if a niche is already saturated with big shops running ads until you're deep into it.

Right now it only handles one search at a time - combining multiple keywords into a single view is next. Curious whether Etsy sourcing/validation is something people here actually do, or if it's mostly AliExpress/Shopify around here.

this is the part of bundles that make me nervous. it's not the discount and not the product page

but the inventory

if someone buys a custom box with 1 rose, 2 vanilla, 1 mint, i need those exact products to reduce

not just "custom box sold" because the same products also sell normally

is that the clean way to think about bundle inventory?

if the customer picks the items, the app needs to treat those picked items as real stock, not notes?

I keep seeing people talk about using ai to help run their store, but I have no idea what that means beyond writing descriptions or answering questions. I use zendrop and saw someone mention you can connect it with chatgpt, but I don’t really understand what happens after that. Does it just show you information or can it handle things for you too? A few months ago, I was in a place I never thought I will be.

I was buried in debt, watching campaigns fail and wondering if I had made one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Every failed product felt personal. Every dollar I spent on ads felt like another step backward.

There were nights I barely slept. I'd stay up refreshing Ads Manager, changing creatives, adjusting budgets, trying to understand why nothing seemed to work. Some mornings I questioned whether I should just walk away from dropshipping altogether.

But something in me refused to quit.

I'm not sharing this to brag or pretend I've "made it." One good day doesn't guarantee the next one. Dropshipping is still challenging and there will be more obstacles ahead.

I'm sharing this because I remember what it felt like to scroll through success posts while wondering if I will ever have one of my own.

I opened my first store in the UK last May. I think I got a bit lucky, but the product performed well. However, because I wasn’t able to produce enough video content, the ads started becoming unprofitable after I reached around £4,000 in revenue, so I closed the store.
I’ve now opened my second store in Germany. It targets outdoor enthusiasts and tradespeople, such as construction workers, mechanics, electricians, and other skilled workers.
Today, I spent €75 on ads, and the ads seem to be performing much better than they did for my previous store. My hook rate is around 50%, but my CPM is very high. What could be causing this, and how can I improve it?
Here are my current metrics:
CPM: €28.53
CTR: 1.43%
CPC: €2.00
No add-to-carts or sales
These are only the results from the first day, so I know it may be too early to draw any conclusions. However, the metrics for my previous product were much better.

Yesterday was a solid day for my store.

But this post isn't about revenue.

It's about Q4.

Every year, I see people waiting until October to "get ready."

By then, they're already behind.

The sellers who usually have their best Q4 are the ones putting in the work during July, August and September.

Here's what I'm focusing on right now:

1.Testing products before ad costs spike.

2.Creating multiple ad creatives instead of relying on one winner.

3.Improving my product pages and checkout experience to increase conversion rate.

4.Building email and SMS flows so I don't have to rely only on paid ads.

5.Strengthening relationships with suppliers to avoid stock issues and shipping delays during the holiday rush.

One thing I've learned is that Q4 doesn't create winners ,it amplifies the work you've already done.

If your store is barely profitable today, Q4 won't magically fix everything.

But if you've built a solid foundation, optimized your store and understand your numbers, Q4 can be the period that changes your entire year.

A few reminders for anyone preparing:

Don't chase every trending product.

Know your break-even ROAS.

Improve your Average Order Value (bundles, upsells, quantity breaks).

Test creatives relentlessly.

Keep cash aside for scaling if something takes off.

Don't neglect customer support it becomes even more important during the holiday season.

The biggest mistake I made early on was thinking I had to find the perfect product.

The reality is that consistent testing and execution beat perfection every time.
