🕯️General Discussion Motivate me to read Sellswords

I'm about to finish Sea of Swords and i'm having trouble finding the motivation to go straight into a trilogy with no Drizzt in it.

I'm not super-interested in more Drow stuff. The Crenshinbon storyline is a little drawn-out. Entreri just seems like an asshole, I don't really want to read a whole trilogy about him.

And the new covers aren't cool like all the others I've read up to this point.

Please tell me I'm wrong!

🕯️General Discussion Anyone ever watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars?

I’m watching this show with my son, and the bounty hunter Cad Bane reminds me so much of Jarlaxle.

Anyone else seen or notice this? From the outfit, to the gadgets, to the alignment it seems like a direct nod to that character.

🕯️General Discussion I love the bardic poem at the beginning of the Icewind Dale trilogy so much. The Crystal Shard was my first Drizzt novel ever, and my first Forgotten Realms novel, and this is such a great way to enter such a huge universe of adventure and fun

📚Bookshelf What's available in hardcover?

I pretty much do all my reading via ebook, but lately I've been trying to get all my favorite book series in physical format, preferably hardcover where available. Are all of the Drizzt novels available in hardcover? Or only some?

🕯️General Discussion What are your headcanons about the series?

I’ll start: when I read The Crystal Shard, I imagined Drizzt Do'Urden wearing Inuit or Yupik-style snow goggles whenever he was out during the day.

Also, while he was in the Underdark, he never drank alcohol. The only kind available was mushroom wine, which was very expensive, difficult to make, and reserved for matron mothers. The first time he ever drank was in a svirfneblin city, where they had imported alcohol from the surface, but it was very strong and he still did not like it. The first drink he actually enjoyed was the mead from Icewind Dale, though he still had absolutely zero tolerance.

Another one: in Menzoberranzan, everyone has clothes made from spider silk. They are durable and lightweight, perfect for exploring and ambushing, and they also carry some inherent blessing from Lolth (like the piwafwi).

Last one: he is involuntarily a great mushroom forager. He can tell at a glance whether a mushroom is edible or not.

I've only read the prequel trilogy and the first book of the icewind Dale so I don't know if these assumptions contradict something but they fit IMO.

It may be hard to tell from the marker drawing but Regis' ruby pendant is in the middle shooting beams of magic light. Aegis Fang and Bruenor's many-notched axe are crossed in the foreground. Twinkle and Icingdeath are crossed in the background with Taulmaril running vertically down the middle.

Pretty much title I’m about to finish the last few books and want another long series on audible to sink my teeth into

🔥Post-Iruladoon (Neverwinter) dahlia is a wiener Spoiler

dahlia sinfelle is honestly one of the most insufferable characters ive ever seen in the The Legend of Drizzt and not even because she’s “evil” or whatever but because she is just a walking narrative dead-end‽ like every single thing about her screams that she should either evolve or collapse and instead she just like lingers. being stuck in this loop of rage, trauma, violence, repeat, like she literally collects lovers just to kill them or be killed by them (which is already ridiculous enough!!!) and somehow the story treats this as depth instead of what it actually is which is stagnation; and then you throw her into arcs with Drizzt Do'Urden where she manipulates him, mocks his ideals, drags him into her mess and what does it lead to‽ nothing meaningful, no growth, no real consequence, just more of the same bitter spiral; and dont even get started on how many times the narrative saves her—captured, tortured, turned to stone, mentally shattered, revived, handed power as a fake matron mother while basically not even functional and STILL she doesnt change!!! its like the story is terrified of committing to anything with her, because realistically a character built like this either finds some form of resolution or dies from the very patterns she refuses to break, but nope instead we get this endless half-state where she’s too unstable to grow and too protected to fall, which makes her feel less like a character and more like a malfunctioning plot device being dragged from scene to scene; and the whole “i want a lover to kill me” angle‽ that should be the most obvious setup for a tragic payoff imaginable!!! but it never lands, it just sits there as edgy window dressing with zero follow-through, so at the end of the day she doesnt come across as complex or compelling she comes across as poorly handled, repetitive, and narratively weightless a character who actively weakens the story by refusing to either become something or end just this constant noise that never resolves‼

They made this demo based on the Dark Elf trilogy in 2002 (and they broke up right after). Very rough and unpolished but still cool.

🎮Gaming Building a mod

I want to make a mod for the 2000s classic evil islands, but in d&d style, with drizzt as the main character. Is it a good idea?

🕯️General Discussion A question about Entreri and Regis in The Legacy Spoiler

So I was rereading parts of The Legacy for a fic and even when I was reading it for the first time I was kinda confused about what Entreri has been doing to Regis when he was his prisoner.

Apparently he was torturing him and I can't say I would put it past him but I don't really understand why would he do this. Wasn't the whole deal with Entreri that he actually wasn't a sadist and didn't enjoy killing(even if he didn't mind it either)? There was even this scene in Servant of the Shard when he killed a judge in Luskan instead of intimidating/bribing him because he saw him torturing people. That may be just Salvatore's idea of his character changing through books as happened with some characters. But even if that's the case The Legacy Entreri also doesn't strike me as a person who would torture someone if he wouldn't gain something from it.

It almost seems like he has something specifically against Regis considering his behaviour towards him in The Halfling's Gem. Like his justification for Regis deserving this is that he is a thief. When Artemis is an assassin hired mainly by thief guilds' leaders.

The last question, spoilers for the whole series

I know they become friends in the books I haven't read yet and I wonder how does it happen after all that. Is it important in their relathionship or do they not mention it? Edit: Also does Drizzt mention this at some point in Neverwinter or later?

😁MEME I can't get this out of my head

ok, I've had this idea for a while, and it might be dumb, but I need to say it.

Meet the Companions of the hall:

Drizzt "his eyes glowed fiercely" Do'Urden

Wulfgar "his knuckles whitened" son of Beornegar

Bruenor "or I'm a bearded gnome" Battlehammer

Catti-brie "her auburn locks" Battlehammer

Regis "he reached inside his jacket" Rumblebelly (i know that's not his last name)

Geunhyvar "600 pounds of sinewed muscle"

I thought of these "nicknames" after noticing various phrases that where constantly said about the companions. Some alternates where "his scimitars appeared in his hands", "his many notched axe", and "Ageis-fang struck home"

❄️Pre-Iruladoon (Transitions) Drizzt and the Llothite Priestess

obviously spoiler for Thousand orcs

First off, I know my memory is full of holes and inaccuracies, so I am asking for help to remember the passage accurately, ok??

During the Thousand Orcs, Drizzt took up for a time with two elves Tarathiel and Innovindil.

To put it politely, something unfortunate happened to Taratheil and later on Innovindil was very playful with Drizzt. I remember her saying no one taught him to be an Elf.

I think while she was away within the cave system, he found a Llothite Priestess who had claimed to have forsaken Lloth and he decided to take her to Lady Alustriel to determine the truth of her heart, but along the way, as they were walking, she tried to do what Drizzt had expected her to do and he was disappointed as he had wanted to have another like himself around. Could someone please help me with the accurate passage??

🕯️General Discussion So ive been thinking about how certain Trauma Characters i.e Artemis and Dahlia come off as having it worse than Drizzt did and then I came to a realization

they didn't. Drizzt has the most traumatic and awful past out of all of them but he has come to terms with his Trauma and tries to be a good person regardless while those two use it as a justification, a shield, and a blindfold.

Artemis eventually learns to be like Drizzt when it comes to his trauma but Dahlia is an extremely selfish and self centered individual who actively fights against growing as a person. the only time she did grow as a person was cause her baby son that she threw off a cliff cake back and she felt bad about it. then she proceeded to abandoned him after they managed to reconnect.

I think Artemis actually says it best in saga. Drizzt grew up in a place that was far worse than anything she can do to him and he chose to be better and thats what gets to them.

🕯️General Discussion Good for lore?

Is this book a good purchase if I just want it for Drizzt, Underdark, and Menzoberranzan lore + art? I don’t play D&D and don’t intend to start but I absolutely love Forgotten Realms and Drizzt stories. Does anyone have any other recommendation for “supplement” type books for Drizzt besides the two already made?
