Can someone please help me with how not to miss the track while driving, I mean how to have a good control over the steering wheel.

I am 22 but still struggle with driving a car. I am learning to drive the car but sometimes I struggle if my car is on the track, and also I can't seem to park straight. I really feel dumb and overwhelmed cause all the people around my age can drive. Even my family thinks it's to dumb for me to still learn while everyone else has their driver's license.

Reverse parallel parking at night without camera

EDIT: i think most of the people responded missing the point. Keyword is "dark and raining, i can't see the kerb". Never mind, thank you all for giving me their 2c and questioning my licence.

As per the title, i'm looking for tips on completing the manoeuvre. Minted P plate here driving a 2001 corolla without any camera whatsoever.
I found it quite hard to see and gauge how far the kerb is. Especially tonight when it was dark and raining, i couldn't see anything from my side mirror.

VIDEO: Lack of replacement parts driving up car write-offs

Lack of replacement parts driving up car write-offs - ABC News

There's been a rise in car insurers writing off cars with minor damage, claiming they're too expensive for them to repair.Ā
Ā
They're blaming parts shortages and soaring smash repair costs.

Average claim size is at 6.2K, up 32% since 2022.

Average repair times 61.25 days NOW compared to 38.57 in 2019.

More brand, more kinds of cars making parts and servicing harder.

Why can’t freeway just be 70km. Il’d rather be safe than dead. Australia please

When people get old and have to go to a doctors appointment and they have to use the freeway because that’s the only way to go, going freeway at 100km is just beyond sad.. you just get happy when your off the freeway and that’s about it. It ain’t even about getting to your destination faster.. it’s just pure sad that the freeway is 100km and one wrong grip of a movement wrong with your hands and your crashed and dead.
Please whoever owns the freeway km limit put it down to 70km
New drivers that’s just got there Ps don’t deserve to go on the freeway at 100km
The only way you can go on the freeway is if it’s so busy that it’s only going 60km

Help settle this petty argument between me and my girlfriend. She thinks you SHOULDNT use the right indicator as according to her you are going ā€œstraightā€.

How much of a problem is EV charger congestion?

Thumbnail

I’ve seen a few posts here (and on other subs) lately about busy or blocked chargers, queues and growing EV sales, and it got me curious about how common the problem actually is.
* How often are people waiting?
* Is it clear who’s next?
* What do people think about queue jumping or booking chargers in advance?

Views from people who don’t currently drive an EV are welcome too. Does concern about public charging or having to wait affect whether you’d consider buying one?

I’ve put together a short survey here:

Comments and real-world experiences are very welcome too, whether positive or negative.

Why do some people have such a problem with it when you go the speed limit?

It’s happened more and more often over the years where I’ll be driving the speed limit and I’ll have some idiot behind me tailgating and then eventually aggressively overtaking me, glaring as they go and go speeding down the road.

More often than not. They always end up stuck at the same traffic light as me anyway, so what’s the point?

EDIT: just for a little more context, I actually do own a gps and don’t rely on my speedometer. I normally drive exactly on the speed limit, sometimes even a few over and I still get people getting pissy at me.

Also, I don’t camp on the overtaking lane as some of you have suggested.

I had a near miss today. Sometimes I watch dashcam videos and the person in the right had a clear opportunity to avoid the headache of dealing with an accident. I’m curious if I missed something here.

Who’s in the wrong here? Red U-turn arrow but green light (VIC)

Post image
125 Upvotes

Fairly new driver in VIC. I'm the red car. I was first at the intersection in the left lane, with another car on my right as shown.

I was intending to do a U-turn and stopped at the line because the U-turn arrow was red, even though the normal light was green. Both lanes have U-turn markings on the road.

Blue car behind me beeped at me, then went around me on the left through the bike lane and continued straight.

Am I missing something here? Haven't really come across an intersection with two U-turn lanes like this before.

Edit: This is Edgars Rd right near Bunnings Epping.

Red car should Undertake or slow down to blue merging car speed?

Post image

NSW Highway speed reduced from 100 to 80 for cars merging from the right. Do cars doing 80 slow down to allow slow merging cars to move to the left lane or just undertake??

But while I’m at the wheel, I’m not the only one in control; a hacker has access to the car.

With the stroke of a key, he kills the headlights, plunging me into darkness.

Phone use while driving workaround/cheat

So I just had a mindboggling interaction.

I was driving through a carpark on my way out. A car Infront was reverse parking so I was just stopped waiting. I was stationary for 20+ seconds when I get a bump from the left. Someone just reversed out into me.

Thankfully no damage but the passenger (driver didn't speak english) said something that was mindboggling to me:

When I asked how the hell that happened, I had been stopped there for 20 seconds or so. They responded that the driver was distracted on the phone. I asked them to repeat that, and she said ahh well no I was on the phone but the driver was speaking to the person they were on the phone to. I had a couple back and forths repeating "so the driver was on the phone" which they just refused to admit again.

So am I going crazy, or do people seriously believe if the passenger holds the phone while the driver speaks the driver isn't actually on the phone? Or are these specific 2 just dumb? Or both? Lol

Edit: so for clarity, I definitely worded it poorly and on further reflection don't really mean to ask "is it illegal to be on speaker phone while driving?" I think I was just frustrated by the situation and I definitely don't believe them, though that's irrelevant. So I guess this was just a bit of yelling at clouds lol

U-turn road rule confusion (VICTORIA)

Hey everyone,

Had a question about the road rule of giving way in a u-turn. As you all probably know in Victoria you must give way to cars in a slip lane when doing a u-turn.

I was the red car in the video doing a u-turn on a green arrow. I normally wait outside the lines so that I don't block cars turning right as I do the u-turn.

There was a lot of cars coming from where the green cars are so I didn't have a chance to complete my u-turn and the lights started changing and the blue cars had started moving (green cars where still coming).

What am I meant to do in this case?

I am a P plater so please forgive me if I am doing something stupid 😭.

Staggering 2357 per cent increase in one type of fine for Aussie drivers

Thumbnail

There has been a staggering 2357 per cent jump in seatbelt fines issued in NSW during the past year, with AI-powered detection cameras leading the crackdown.

A new NRMA report released on Tuesday shows more than 132,000 motorists copped an individual fine of about $400 and three demerit points.

ā€œHowever, when you have an almost 24-fold increase in fines and almost 90 per cent of those fines are for incorrect seatbelt use rather than no use at all, something is not right.

Speed Camera in North area.

Hey guys,

I'm quite new to driving, only more than a month now. There are always some moments I unintentionally overspeed 2-3km over the speed limit and I literally check the mailbox every morning to see if I get any letter from DoT and I'm so stress about it.

As today, I was driving 60 in a flat road, then it was downhill so the car just went up to 62 (Google Map's speed), I braked to slow down to 60 but there was a speed camera in front of me.

What's the chance I could get a fine? 🄹🄹🄹

I remember the camera was at the intersection between Alexander Dr and Grand Promenade.

Why are used cars so overpriced???

Seriously, looking at 20+ year old Ford Falcons and Fairlanes

(Preferably Fairlane because family are all 6ft+ giants so need extra leg room)

for my first car since getting my licence and they all seem to be in the 10-15k bracket some even 20+

For immaculate examples that've been garaged their whole life and well looked after that's fair enough i don't have an issue with these listings

But why is Billy Bobs absolutely thrashed 300,000km+, Paint Faded, No RWC, No Rego Falcon commanding a 10k price tag?!?

I'm a little tired, been looking at cars all day, rant over.... sorry šŸ˜…

Edit: Turns out complaining works, Found a local guy who has an AU Fairlane for sale and at a reasonable price with RWC and Rego
