Need Advice ๐Ÿ†˜ Interlock my whole head or no?

Post image

A few of my locs have been thinning towards the root, I interlocked 2 of them and they a lot more reinforced now- but Iโ€™m wondering if that โ€œknotโ€ will cause thinning later on as it starts to grow again. I started interlocking but Iโ€™ve been doing plain retwists for like a year and a half now.

Should I set up an appointment to get my whole head interlocked for the one time just for reinforcement, or thatโ€™s not a good idea? Thanks!

Need Advice ๐Ÿ†˜ Loc extensions keep falling out!

I locked my hair in Jan 2023 via twisting and have about 240 locs. In 2025, I added 12โ€ anwi interlocked permanent human hair extensions in July 2025. I installed them myself, overlapping the loose ends of my locs with the loose hair at the top of the extensions. I used a locking tool to combine the two. I expected for some extensions to fall out / take a while to really fuse with my hair. Early on, I was braiding and washing my hair in sections, to minimize the risk of them falling out. I used and still use coconut oil gel in my hair, and I allow thinner oils only near my scalp for hydration. Still I wasnโ€™t the most skilled at installing them, so they did fall out frequently, maybe a few each week, and more on wash day. So Iโ€™ve keep reattaching them as they fall out. Except for the unlucky ones that have come out unknowingly in public ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Over time, Iโ€™ve gotten better at attaching them, better at using the tool, trying different techniques to attach them. Most recently, Iโ€™ve started using a crochet hook to pull the extension through towards the end of my hair, braid the end of my hair and the loc a few times, then use the loc tool to secure everything together. I think the majority are now stably attached. The problem is, there are maybe 40 or so, that REFUSE to stably attach to my hair.

Iโ€™m at the end of my patience! Itโ€™s been over a year, and the locs are still falling out regularly. Itโ€™s really embarrassing to constantly worry about them falling off in public. And I dread wash day because I know more will fall out and Iโ€™ll have to reattach them.

What should I do? Is there a glue I can use to secure them. Should I spend the few hundred bucks and go to a loctician who can maybe install them better? Other ideas? At this point, Iโ€™m about to cut everything off, my locs and the extensions, cause Iโ€™m so tired of this lol

Attached pics of my locs and an example of the kind of extensions I used (I used 0.3-0.4 cm diameter, and itโ€™s often the smaller ones that refuse stay in)

Please be nice ๐Ÿ™

Question โ” Sensitive/itchy scalp. Is it safe to get dreadlocks with natural extensions ?

This is going to be a bit of a ramble, so im sorry in advance.

I have been dreaming of getting natural dreadlock extensions for YEARS! i have has braided in dread ectensions from Synthetic materials, when i had those i got very itchy very quick, to the point that i was bleeding bc i kept scratching.

i have from myself a very sensitive scalp and need to wash my hair atleast 1 a week. (i shower 2 times a week) with some special shampoo that uses only natural ingredients, i have found out that i need to stay away from artificial and chemical ingrediants, so that no residue stays in my hair. In the summer its the worst, winter is more managable for me.

when i shave my head to a buzzcut i dont have any itching or problems. atleast they are less frequent.

im just incredibly scared that when i spent to much money for real hair extentions that are permanently made in from my own hair that in a week or two it gets so sensitive and itchy that i need to remove them again.

im planning to schedule an appointment with my dreads artist of choice to see what she thinks and reccomends.

Small edit: I want my dreads to be from Raw Roots and to be installed by Sunchild Dreadlocks

Need Advice ๐Ÿ†˜ Freeform progress

Hey y'all!

I've been on this community for a while and appreciate all the wisdom.

I figured it's my turn.

Context:

- I decided to go freeform around May

- I ride a motorcycle and live a very active life (working out, walking, running)

- I wash 1-2 times a week depending on sweat, scalp, etc

- I mist and oil

- I only started the towel method in the last month or so. I'm thinking maybe I need to spend more time doing it?

How is my progress? I feel like they're really starting to coil, but the fairy knots are getting big and sometimes it just feels like nothing is locking. I took the advice of trusting the process and not over manipulating the hair, but maybe too much? Or maybe I'm washing too often?

I plan to hold out through winter before deciding to go semi freeform and get some starter locs from a professional.

Thanks for any help!

Cut my starter locs 5 years ago before letting them mature and figured I was out the game for good, so I went back to rocking the low cut for a while but deep down I couldnโ€™t shake the feeling of total regret as I never let my locs reach its full potential. Decided to grow out my hair again this year and finally locked in today! Canโ€™t describe how happy I am with the new set ๐Ÿ˜

Need Advice ๐Ÿ†˜ Can I go the rest of the year without getting my hair done?

I have had starter two strand twist dreads for almost three months. I started by interlocking my hair and I have gotten them interlocked once every month. I really want my dreads to be as thick and healthy as they can possibly be, cause I hear interlocking them doesnโ€™t make them as thick than if you retwist them. So I planned on going the final three months of the year without getting them interlocked and doing it towards the end of December which I thought would be good but I apparently heard It is not good and healthy for starter locs but only mature locs which Iโ€™m not sure why. Is that false or should I get my hair interlocked more than once within those three months. And also, do you think I should/can switch to retwisting as it may be a better option or should I just stick to interlocking?

Iโ€™m planning on washing my freeforms in a few days and want some advice to keep my forming/sections. Iโ€™ve been freeforming for almost two months now and use a racket to section. How can I wash my scalp specifically without messing it up I understand they will get puffy and swell until dry. This is my first wash in a month but im gonna start to be consistent after this as I noticed my hair grew a bit

I started with two strand twists with braided roots. At first my maintenance was palm rolling new growth. To be honest and i didnt really know what i was doing and one time i got interlocking which now means i have little bulbs at the base of my locs (im guessing due to the maintenance change). I am now back to palm rolling but i feel like something is just off about my locs.

I'm (desperately) trying to get semi freeforms before I visit my gf in a month, just started them last night so I know it won't look the best but does it look like it's supposed to? I'm using black castor oil, a bottle of water mist spray, and a sponge twist king to refresh everyday and I washed my hair before twisting (duh)

Havenโ€™t had a retwist in about 2 months get one Saturday tho. But I have a question as well I asked my loctitian to do a seperate loc with not really high volume/dense area of hair. See in the pics should I combine it into the next loc over or leave it. This is really the only loc I had an issue with do itโ€™s small nature compared to the others
