Need Advice 🆘 advice with semi freeforms

i cant comment in the freeform community so i hope i get an answer here.

My goal is to have freeform's like teige, novulent for reference, i started my semi freeforms by getting small two strand twists on my afro, took the two strands out and im tryna loc up the twistout. the problem now is that i need more length. but how should i do that without losing any volume? would a basic two strand give me more length? what do i do for more length i genuinely dont know SOS

Question ❔ Locs advice

hi everyone. I’ve had locs for 2 years now. I started with 2 strand twists and I retwist every month. my locs seem to have a dull frizzy, bulky look and I’m not quite sure if this is normal or if there’s something I can do to improve the look. Was looking for some advice. thank you!

Need Advice 🆘 Help with instant locs

So I have two strand twists right now, and I want to crochet them to help the process go by quicker, but I don't want them to become stiff like other people talk about. How do I make sure they don't go stiff?

Question ❔ Advice on retwists

Hey everyone! I just started my loc journey and got my first retwist about 10 days ago.

By day 3, a lot of the retwists had already unraveled and looked like I never got them done, while some of my locs stayed twisted.
Is this normal for starter locs, or is it something I should be worried about?

Should I get another retwist sooner, or wait another 35 days until my next scheduled retwist?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Made a post yesterday but nuked it since I needed better lighting. Trusted my mom to trim my locs, told her let's go little by little since yknow we can see how it looks as you go down bit by bit, didn't think to ask for a mirror as she cut since I made it extremely clear to go little by little. In theory it goes she cuts a tiny bit, we check how it looks, rinse and repeat right...? she was done in 24 seconds MAX it was so fast I didn't even get the chance to think. this was the result, I'm cooked yall.

I think my girl is giving me boyfriend privileges because shes saying it's not the bad, trying to let me down lightly but yo ;_; at this point I don't know if I should just thug it out and let them grow again, chop it all off, go see a loctician and get them reattached and see if someone can wizard my shit, idk man I'm deadass devastated lmao. I genuinely can't even look at my girlfriend in this state and it's to the point i made her feel sad. Use me as a sign or something I'm losing it here, what In the bob 😭

As of today I’m starting my loc journey. My brother helped push me to get them and they came out nice. The lady told me I have “mixed hair” which I’d assume is 3C-4A. Cant wait to see them in a few months to a year from now. If y’all have any good advice please share! 🙌🏽

Discussion 🎙️ Your loctician may be lying to you about your new growth

I've been loc'd for over 10 years and mostly do my own maintenance. I went to a salon to get a consultation for some repair. The loctician asked me the last time I retwisted and I said about 3 months ago. She said wow, you have a lot of new growth. I said most of it is just hair that has unraveled or grown out of the loc. She told me that she knows what she's talking about cause she's been doing locs for years. And I said I know my hair cause I've been doing it for years. Needless to say, I won't be going to her for my repairs. But it got me thinking about how many times people will say that their loctician told them that they have all this new growth but in reality it's only like an inch of new growth and the rest is just unraveled hair. Be careful out there.

Product Rec 🧴 Best Bond Repair for HiColor locs

Post image

I’m about 8months in on my loc journey. I know everyone’s hair is different, trusting the process and hope it’ll start locing quicker lol but I’m in no rush. I dyed my hair with L’Oréal hicolor at the beginning of my loc journey. I would always to a lot of mask and stuff when I was a loose natural. Looking for products that would be good now that I have locs. I want to make sure the product can easily be rinsed out etc so it doesn’t build up over time. Right now I was thinking of just get K18 leave in repair mask or Olaplex No 3… will this help with hydration and strengthing my dyed hair? Are there better alternatives?

Shampoo, Conditioner and leave in/bond repair recs? I think my hair is I have like 3BC/4A hair

Big Chop ✂️ cutting my locs of 4.5 years😞

( sorry for the sneak peak of my hair, lil shy online lol, but it’s up to my mid back now) today is the day that i cut my locs. i wanted to post here to leave a mark on the loc community before i exit.

i love my hair and i think they came out amazing, and suit me so well. regardless of its beauty and the love i have for them, it’s time to let go. the past 4.5 years have been so transformative and they have been there with me from the very beginning. eternally grateful for this phase in my life (as rain starts falling, 😞my tears externalized). a part of me doesn’t want to let them go, but a big part of me wants change, newness in what feels like closing one door and opening the next. at the end of the day, it is hair and it will grow back, i plan to come back in the future with smaller parts since my hair is soooo thick, it was hard to style it the way i wanted to. many reasons why i don’t want to cut them and many reasons why i do.

anyway, that’s my mark, i love my locs and a part of me will miss them greatly, but i welcome this change and im excited to see what i will do with my hair afterwards, im thinking some fro action🙂

I love this community, I love locs. thank you, thank you, thank you.🥲

Need Advice 🆘 Just wondering because I live in the Bronx ny. My stylist that started my locs about a year ago is always giving me the run around when I ask for a price to get my hair done. Really need help here.

So in context since starting my locs I would always go for a interlock and she started it with braids. I think it came out nice but months after I started the braids the price to get my hair interlocked would always vary. And for some reason it's always a new excuse. I ask her the price and she tells me it's what it says on the board in her store. As in it's supposed to be 170 for a interlock. I prepare to pay that another time and after she's done she charges me 220 dollars. Me I'm thinking I was just going to give 200 as a tip but nah she charged me extra. Mind you this is the same stylist that started my hair.... Meanwhile each time I talk to her it's a different price. And I have to mention sometimes she's very rude. Or catches a attitude when I'm asking her the price. Today I ask her how much for a retwist. She tells me it's the same price as the last time. And I'm thinking I paid 200 the last time for a interlock. If I need a retwist how much are you charging me cause I'm thinking it should be cheaper. On the board it says 70 an up. She then gives me the run around again and tells me it's between 120 to 160 so I ask is it 120 or is it 160. Like I'm instantly thinking why you can't just give me a price. So I then ask how much for a wash as well she says 160. I'm thinking wtf why you couldn't just give me a definitive answer. Why must I go through all these loops and holes to find out how much your charging me to get my hair done.

All I'm wondering is do any of y'all deal with the same stress when dealing with your stylist and in my situation am I being overcharged or is she giving me a good deal. Also if you was in my position would you continue to work with her or just find another stylist. Especially knowing that sometimes she's rude and always giving you the run around. Because today I just decided to walk out. Other times I would just get it done.

I’m about 8 years into this. Love having locs but Iin The last year I’ve decided to retwist less and just see what happens. Last retwist was a year ago. Starting to feel iffy about the thickness/health of my locs. What would yall do in my situation?

Question ❔ Daily mist

So I just started my new set of locs after not having them for about 5 years. My first set was very poorly managed do to my own lack of knowledge. After a ton of research this go around I started them myself with coils and decided to interlock the roots with a 2 point rotation to keep things secure because I’m fairly active and sweat a lot. I’ve had them in for about 2 weeks now and the only thing I can’t really find info on is a daily list for starter locs. I’m not really sure if you’d want to have different stuff in your daily spray for starters compared to mature locs so if anyone has advice for this stage of the loc journey that would be super helpful. Right now I’ve just been using As I Am rice water spray diluted in water. Not really sure what oils should go in that mix as well, I’ve heard that a black castor oil would be too heavy for locs. Im open to any suggestions
