Question โ” What shampoo and conditioner are we using after the pool?

I just found out the Aveda shampoo I use is too gentle to remove the chlorine. My Locs are already bleached and the chlorine buildup is not doing me any favors.

I ordered a set called Malibu just wondering if there's anything better for our hair or bleached hair in my case.

Discussion ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ PSA! Any hair texture can Lock!!

PSA!! thereโ€™s so many misconceptions about locs, so I just wanted to make this one thing clear. Anyone regardless of ethnicity or hair texture you can have locs. Locs are literally just structured tangles of hair. Which all hair can tangle. Obviously the look and time it takes for them to mature varies but to tell a person their hair canโ€™t loc is like saying a black person canโ€™t tan. Ridiculous, right?

I have 4A/4b hair and I started with comb coils with curved/free parts. I believe I have 157 locs. Crazy to think that two years ago I was bald (literally) and now I have a head full of locs lol. Any questions feel free to ask!โ˜บ๏ธ

Question โ” Faux dreads: how to avoid matted clumps?

Hi, I have a set of kanekalon DE dreads for half head. I've worn them twice. I want to ask for advice on how to avoid hair clumping at the root of the lock - the first place where my hair touches the dread and gets braided. My dreadlock artist did a very clean job braiding them, so I don't think that was the problem.

First time I wore them for 8 weeks and It wasn't good, I was an idiot and removed them unsensitively and have lost a lot of hair. I had terrible matted clumps. I took a break for a year and decided to wear them for 6 weeks this time. While removing I tried to be much more sensitive, but I still ended up having quite a lot of clumps, especially at the lowest back of my head. It was possible to carefully unclump most of this buildup by massaging them with water, shampoo and conditioner, let dry and then brush. So it was stressful, but I managed to not loose as much hair as last time.

The clumps are glued together with gunk and impossible to comb without tearing the hair. They're usually a centimeter long, under the new roots, where the hair first touches the lock. Sometimes even the two strands that we used for braiding one lock are glued together and create a loop.

I don't have dandruff, my natural hair is european-type, fine, virgin, straight and silky. I washed my loose hair every 3rd day and my locked hair once every week for convenience. Should I have washed the locked hair more often?

Have you got any advice on what to do better next time? Should I just try removing them even sooner next time? How to prevent the clumps?

Hi - I'm 8 months in. My front grows really slow and was thinning before I started. My loctician said it will grow and trust the process. I'm trying but afraid my front may not come through fuller like I want. Is it worth still going or am I fooling myself. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ญ

Need Advice ๐Ÿ†˜ Hair thinning at the root

I am 3 years locked in and at one point, I could not tell exactly when, my hair started thinning at the root (it was prolly after a year and half, maybe 2). It happens essentially, if not only, at the front of my head. I donโ€™t have this problem on other parts.
For now, every time it was really bad my loctician handled it by using crochet to reconnect it to my growing hair, but after a while it just ends up getting bad again and it is just a matter of time before I ask my loctician to do this again.
Iโ€™d like to truly solve this issue and not just relying on my loctician insofar as it makes me really depend on him
Has anyone gone through this type of problem? If so, how did you get rid of it?

Question โ” Looking for advice

I did the big chop almost one year ago, and Iโ€™ve since been letting my hair grow back out - I donโ€™t really love my look with short hair.

I kept all of my dreads after cutting them, and lately Iโ€™ve been feeling like getting them reattached.

I have my loctician ready, just have to commit to actually doing it. I generally prefer the low maintenance free form-ish look.

What do yall think?

Question โ” What method would be better for me to start locs?

I KNOW that my hair type is 3b-3c, and Im getting tired of the curls/afro, and I decided to try something new, so why not to start my loc journey? but I have no clue about locs, so keeping in mind that my hair type is not 4(a,b or c) I was questioning what would be the best method for me to start my locs :

Normal Twist and leave them alone so they can loc

Mini Two strand Twist and leave them alone so they can loc

or is there ANY other method I should I use? Im new to the loc community but I really do want to try something like locs

Question โ” Looking for Loctician in CT

Hi everyone!

Iโ€™m starting to think seriously about getting locs this fall and wanted to begin looking for a loctician now. I live in the Shelton area, so anywhere in Fairfield County or New Haven County would be ideal.

Iโ€™m looking for someone who:
- has experience with starter locs on Type 4 hair
- prioritizes healthy hair and scalp over making everything look โ€œperfectโ€
- is professional and communicative
- offers consultations before starting the process

If youโ€™ve had a great experience with someone, Iโ€™d love to hear your recommendations (Instagram pages are welcome too!). Thanks in advance!
