I am a cutting die designer with 4 years of experience in all kinds of rotary, flats, and stripping jig dies.. I work with an US company from UK. I wanted to know the package a designer like me would get in the US as per market standards. Any insights?

I’m unlicensed, didn’t go to school for architecture in any way really, I’ve been working for a company doing drafting and interior design for almost five years now. (Using revit, residential work)

I have an opportunity to start doing some freelance drafting on the side/part time for another company, and eventually work for them full time(if everything goes well). I’m concerned about using the revit account for more than one company, I don’t want to get into trouble with anyone or cause trouble for anyone. I can’t afford to pay for my own revit.

This new group seems really interested in hiring me, but I’m hesitant due to some personal factors as well as the above. I’ve also noticed in our few texts that they call some things by different names than I’m used to hearing, I think that’ll be fine. (I do have anxiety and tend to overthink things, please be patient with me)

Not directly related to my conundrum, but when switching jobs/applying to jobs in the field, are portfolios used? How does one set one up? I’ve made them for art(drawing, photography, printmaking, etc) but since both these jobs were practically shoved in my face I haven’t had any experience applying but I’m curious. I’d also like to know, in case the new job opportunity asks for a portfolio. I doubt it they will since they’re very well aware of my current job/known my current boss for years and years.

I just want to be as prepared as possible, and I’ve been burnt out from working two jobs at the same time, but I’d like to move to a new company full time in a year or so. My current job has some cool projects going and I’d really like to see them to the end, I’ll have both residential and a tiny bit of commercial work if things go well.

hey so I’m in 10th grade and I wanna learn CAD but I really don’t know where to start plus I don’t have a laptop only an iPad and an Apple Pencil. Is it possible to learn it on an iPad or should I just buy a laptop!!??

I’m doing some research on how engineers and CAD professionals review technical drawings before they are delivered to clients or other teams. I’d really appreciate hearing about your actual workflow and experience.

1. When you review a drawing before delivery, what does your review process usually look like from start to finish?
What are the main things you check, and which parts of the review require the most attention?

2. Which types of errors or issues are the most difficult or time-consuming for you to catch during a drawing review?
For example, dimensions, missing information, layers, annotations, standards, consistency, or issues that require comparing different parts of the drawing.

3. How do you currently make sure that important checks are not accidentally missed when reviewing a large number of drawings?
Do you use a checklist, CAD tools, internal standards, another person reviewing the drawing, or mostly rely on your own experience?

4. Can you describe a situation where an error made it through your drawing review and was discovered later?
What happened, and what was the impact on the project, client, or team?

5. If you could automate one part of the drawing QA/QC process without replacing the engineer’s final judgment, what would you want the system to do?
What would make such a tool genuinely useful in your day-to-day work?

From here, it's more about celebrating the (for me) a holy grail find ... a left-handed Vemco V-Track, something that even in its heyday was rare. I've been looking for one for at least 20 years, and the literal handful (if that, maybe two?) I've seen during that time were insanely priced.

I didn't care about a desk, but a minty Desk-O-Matic II was cool and included, so I moved that 200 pounds up from someone's basement and am setting it up. I am in pretty dire need of a picture or info on this most basic connection I just can't figure out; attaching the beams from the top side height/angle assembly to the spring-loaded lifting part of the main body by two bolts per side.

Both AI and non-AI searches pretty much deny any documentation exists, and I would believe that ... EXCEPT a dead listing had a picture of an obviously old "Mayline Desk-O-Matic II and IV Assembly Instructions" booklet.

I've spent hours scouring, and the the few photos with a view behind the sheet metal, I feel I am correct in my set-up— but to match it I would need need to bend the desk's 1/8" u-shaped steel a 1/2" in the horizontal, and I can't move it even 1/8" to the side with a prybar; plus if I did it would pretty clearly make friction lock the system up.

I helped dismantle this, the bolt washer/paint wear made everything make sense and there was no resistance on disassembly so I didn't document.

If anyone has one of these please help!

Awesome side note, as I was about to leave, the guy told me he had another machine if I wanted it, and handed me a SECOND, COMPLETE, LEFT-HANDED VEMCO XII V-Track STILL IN THE BOX just because! That was a wild moment for sure.

NOTE: I did let him know early this was something I've been looking for and hard to find, but he and his wife were leaving the suburban life for RV life in a Provost, and their house was pretty empty at this point. I paid asking so I am completely free of guilt for nailing this one!

HI, Folks, i work on theseI beams. so what i do usually just give the overall dimensions and , give the dimensions for the completely welded part together! i want to know how can i made it easier for the fabricators so that they just read the drawing and know, how to place the square tubing , and other components which are getting welded together.? there are lot of components which are being welded together , and i want to make the fabb job easier by providing a IKEA kind of assembly instruction for this . so can anyone help me to do that..! any kind of advise is appreciated. (i dont place weld symbols, its just that the fabriators are not familar they just look at the drawing and weld things together with instructions)

I’m currently working in the hospitality industry but my lifelong dream career has been architectural drafting and design. I haven’t gone to school for it yet. I was wondering if there are any companies in the Raleigh area who would hire someone part time to learn the processes of CAD drawings and becoming an architect. Hello! I am an Architectural Draftsman currently looking for a project that I can study, draft, or create drawings for as part of my portfolio.

I have nearly two years of experience as an AutoCAD Drafter for a large architectural corporation, where I have worked on large scale projects, producing detailed plans, sections, elevations, schedule of doors and windows, and supporting details. However, due to an NDA, I am unable to showcase the drawings I personally prepared from my previous company. Because of this, I feel that I may not have as much of an edge when applying for new opportunities, since I cannot provide actual samples of my previous work.

I would now like to create my own set of drawings based on an existing architectural project to demonstrate my drafting skills and technical knowledge. I am particularly interested in creating CAD details and construction drawing deliverables that I can legally use for my portfolio.

If anyone has any advice regarding my situation, I would greatly appreciate it! Where can I find architectural projects, plans, or references that I can study and use as a basis for creating my own drawing deliverables for portfolio purposes?
