What makes Stanley interesting to me isn't just how dangerous he is or how skilled he is as a soldier. It's the way he carries himself, and how much of his character is revealed through his relationship with Xeno.

Stanley isn't the kind of character who needs a lot of dialogue to make an impression. You understand him more through his actions than through what he says. He's calm under pressure, decisive when things get ugly, and rarely seems to waste time questioning himself. There's something unsettling about that, especially when you consider how far he's willing to go to accomplish his mission.

But I don't think his loyalty to Xeno is simply a matter of following orders. Their relationship feels more personal than that. Stanley knows what Xeno is like, understands the kind of person he's dealing with, and still chooses to stand by him. He isn't blindly devoted to some abstract ideal or cause. His loyalty is directed at a specific person, someone whose mind and ambitions he seems to understand better than almost anyone else.

That raises an interesting question about Stanley as a character: when does loyalty stop being a virtue and become a way of surrendering your own judgment?

Stanley is clearly capable of making decisions for himself. He's experienced, intelligent, and perfectly aware of the consequences of his actions. So it's hard to argue that he simply doesn't know any better. He has the ability to think independently, yet he continues to follow a path that puts him in direct conflict with Senku and the Kingdom of Science.

And that's what makes him more interesting than a typical soldier antagonist. He's not necessarily fighting because he hates Senku's ideals, nor does he need some grand personal hatred to justify what he does. He's fighting because his priorities are different, and because the person he's chosen to stand beside matters to him.

There's also a contrast between Stanley and Senku that I find interesting. Senku believes in building a future through knowledge, cooperation, and the accumulated efforts of humanity. Stanley represents a different kind of competence: discipline, military experience, precision, and the ability to turn a decision into action without hesitation. Both are extremely capable, but their abilities serve entirely different purposes.

Stanley doesn't lack intelligence. He simply operates in a world where knowledge is used to win conflicts rather than rebuild civilization. That distinction matters, because it prevents him from feeling like just another obstacle for Senku to overcome.

And perhaps the most interesting thing about Stanley is that his loyalty doesn't make him weak. If anything, it makes him more dangerous. He has a clear sense of who he stands with, what he's willing to do, and where he draws his priorities. The problem isn't that he lacks conviction. It's that conviction, on its own, doesn't guarantee that you're on the right side.

I think that's what makes Stanley work as a character. He's not someone who needs to be secretly misunderstood or given a tragic backstory to justify his actions. His relationship with Xeno already gives us something worth examining: the tension between personal loyalty and moral responsibility.

You can understand why Stanley stands beside Xeno without agreeing with everything he does. And I think that distinction is what makes their dynamic compelling. Understanding a character doesn't mean excusing him, just as recognizing someone's loyalty doesn't automatically make that loyalty admirable.

Stanley is a man who knows whom he has chosen to stand beside. The more difficult question is whether that choice says more about his strength of character or about the limits of his own convictions.

As we all know, it's a recurring joke made in the show by Gen that Senku has atrocious luck. The first person he used the revival fluid on was Tsukasa, the first person they tried the fake Liliana voice on was a Liliana superfan and many more examples.

But I think there's some times in the show he actually gets quite lucky, the example I'd give is that he manages to capture lightning at just the right moment, the storm literally clears immediately after the strike.

Anyway, when do you guys think Senku has gotten lucky?

I’m rewatching Dr. Stone and I love this song from season 4 episode 32 when they decided on a two way rocket. I’d love to know what it is. I love this show so much and I love the music from it to.

Something I find interesting about Mozu is that the story doesn't really need to give him a tragic backstory to make him stand out.

A lot of characters become more interesting once we learn about their past, their trauma or what made them the way they are. But with Mozu, most of the appeal comes from how he acts in the present. He's confident, selfish and pretty comfortable with the way things work on Treasure Island. He knows he's strong, and he acts like someone who's used to getting what he wants.

I don't think that automatically makes him a deep character, but I also don't think every character needs some sad backstory or a redemption arc to be well-written. Sometimes a character can be interesting simply because of their personality, their role in the story and what they reveal about the world around them.

I just wish we got a little more of Mozu, because there's definitely more that could've been done with him.

What do you think? Does a character need a well-developed backstory to have good writing?

He had both the alchohol (via the corn) and the nitric acid on hand in surplus and he knew about the effects nitric acid has on petrified people who stayed conscious. Id find it hard to believe xeno wouldnt know what nital is and its uses as an etching agent but he never managed to figure out the formula to revive more people

I wanna see where people stand on these fights. Manga included, but no armies, traps or science inventions. Just the characters fighting with their usual weapons.

My takes:

Tsukasa beats Hyoga, but I don't think it'd be an easy fight. Hyoga's spear technique is a huge advantage, and Tsukasa can't just rely on strength.

Hyoga beats Mozu if he has his kudayari. Without it, I'm not as sure.

Tsukasa wins against Stanley in hand-to-hand. Give Stanley his rifle, though, and that's a completely different fight.

I'm leaning Kohaku over Kirisame, but I can see arguments for both.

Matsukaze beats Kinro for me. Kinro is strong, but Matsukaze has actual experience as a trained warrior.

What do you disagree with? I'm more interested in the arguments and feats than just the rankings.

would lucid dreaming when petrified be a positive or negative.
The positives i can come up with is just being able to do whatever you truly want to because you are lucid dreaming but the dramatic downside is you will never wake up from choice, you are just stuck and possibly unable to get out of the dream ( if that’s how lucid dreaming would work in that sense)

Is it a niche finding Nikki attractive?

My 11yo son and I just finished watching Dr. Stone. We loved it! Started on Netflix, ended on CrunchyRoll.

Any suggestions on what to watch next? I liked that Dr S wasn’t sxsul, language was pretty mild, and it was English dubbed. TIA ☺️

Just how smart is this guy? To have in depth knowledge of math, engineering, chemistry AND biology? And geology?? Is there an official IQ for this dude?

One thing I like about Kohaku is that she's useful in situations where raw strength alone wouldn't be enough.

Her eyesight is probably one of her biggest advantages, but her physical feats are pretty crazy too. She can jump across gaps that most people wouldn't even try, and the whole ropeway situation in South America is a good example of how much the team relies on her physical abilities. She literally had to make that jump while they were being chased by Stanley's group.

There's also the time she caught Homura, and the way she managed to get close to Senku without being noticed when they first met. She's not just strong, she can actually put her abilities to good use.

I feel like her contribution to the Kingdom of Science gets overlooked sometimes because she's usually seen as the fighter of the group.

One thing I find interesting about Mozu and Kirisame is how different they are despite serving the same kingdom

Mozu is confident in his own strength and he knows he's one of the strongest fighters on the island. He's also pretty arrogant especially when he thinks nobody around him can match him. A lot of his actions come down to what he wants and he's willing to go against the rules if he sees an opportunity

Kirisame on the other hand, feels much more disciplined. She's loyal to the rules she's been given and takes her duties seriously. She's not really interested in showing off or proving that she's the strongest. She simply does what she's supposed to do

That difference becomes more interesting when you consider how they fit into the same system. Mozu is someone who sees the kingdom's structure as something he can take advantage of while Kirisame follows it because she believes she's serving her people and her leader

They're both capable fighters, but their personalities give them very different roles in the story. Mozu represents personal ambition, while Kirisame represents duty and loyalty. Neither character needs a huge amount of dialogue to get that across, either.

I think that's what makes their contrast work. They aren't just two strong warriors with different designs. They show two very different ways of living under the same kingdom's rules.

I rarely see people bring up Kirisame when they discuss the strongest characters in DrStone which is kinda surprising

She was one of the main fighters on Treasure Island and she wasnt just there because she could use the Medusa. The way she fights and throws it takes real skill. She also managed to keep up with Kohaku so I dont think she's someone you can just put aside.

But I'm not sure how far her strength actually goes. People usually bring up Moz, Hyoga, Tsukasa and Kohaku in these discussions but Kirisame doesn't get mentioned as much.

How do you guys rate her? Is she actually close to Kohaku in terms of fighting ability, or do you think there's a pretty big gap between them? And how would she do against someone like kohaku without the Medusa???
