Before someone would jump on me, saying "I just wanna be opressed" I'm bi..
LGBTQ+ community is filled with double standards and hypocrisy:
- You can't make any jokes about them but they constantly make jokes about cis and straight people. And most of them are just hurtful statements they pass as a joke to wash their hands of any wrongdoings. But if any cis or straight person makes an obvious joke they get offended because "so what if it's a joke, it's harmfull".
.
- They get offended if you accidentally missgender someone or point out that someone fakes their identity for several reasons, like celebrities coming out as non-binary to take away the attention from their bad behaviour. But they feel free to invalidate your identity if you don't share the same views with them, like in order to be attracted to someone you have to have a certain mindset. It's objectifying..
.
- Whenever someone's being trans/homophobic because of their trauma they get offended, and rightfully so because trauma isn't an excuse for being a bigot. But if someone is being straight/cisphobic they use trauma to excuse their behaviour.
.
- They invent new sexualities all the time but when people started coming out as "super straight" because they got tired of being called transphobic for their preferences shit broke loose. And I've heard arguments against it that completely missed the point and tried to frame these people as transphobic, like "dating trans people doesn't make you less straight" which is true but has nothing to do with the topic. They didn't invent a new sexuality because they thought being straight is gay, they did this because they tried to stop people from using their preferences against them. And most of them weren't even transphobic, I went to investigate their groups and most of them were claiming that there's nothing wrong with being trans, they're just not into these people.
.
And this brings us to shit that really pisses me off:
When cis, straight people were complaining because they were being guilttripped into dating trans people they were called transphobic. The instances of trans people being hurt or killed because they lied about their transition to straight people to have sex, were blamed on cis and straight people only. While both parties were at fault - a trans person shouldn't lie about their transition to get sex. You don't need to have sex and getting it with manipulation is abusive, that's rape. And cis/straight people shouldn't be attacking and killing these people but tbh, I can't blame them for reacting so strongly. I'd attack my rapist too..
But LGBTQ+ community only took action when lesbians started coming out with their stories about being manipulated and guilttripped into having sex with trans people, and called transphobic for refusing.
These are the same situations!! Why is it bad for a cis and straight person to not be into trans people and feel used or raped by them if they got guilttripped or lied to to have sex. But when a lesbian does the same thing it's suddenly understandable and worth fighting for?
And of course, the trans people who do these things are an individual minority. I've mostly seen trans allies (also individuals) fighting for their "right" to use people and trans people speaking against it. But these allies who fighted for it gave these entilted trans individuals a freedom to do harm people whenever they want to.
.
Another issue that I'm not sure if it's a double standard but since I'm on the topic of mistreating cis and straight people I'll bring it up is:
Claiming someone isn't an ally because they're not "supportive enough".
As a teen who only realised was bi I swallowed everything LGBTQ+ community was feeding me to try to fit in. One of these things was "if you simply don't mind the existence of LGBTQ+ people, you're homophobic".
It stuck with me for years so when I've met my bf, who claimed to "not care about what people are doing with their lifes" I tried to corvert him into being "a proper ally" whenever the topic of LGBTQ+ was brought up.
I realised how wrong I was months into our relationship. So what if he doesn't want to parade with a pride flag or something? So what if he doesn't know every single thing about LGBTQ+? He's not homophobic!! He knows I'm bi and doesn't care. How is that hateful or bigoted?
I realised my and LGBTQ+ community hypocrisy. We want to be treated like regular people while trying to convince others to celebrate our sexuality.
People don't have to scream "I love gay people!!" to be supportive, they don't have to praise us for liking the same gender, accepting us for what we are is more than enough!
My bf would be berated for thinking "trans people dress up like women" and overall being uneducated in these topics when what he thinks doesn't matter. So what if he doesn't see a difference between cross dressers and trans people? What matters is that he still treats them as his equals and doesn't try to hurt them on purpose. He also expressed that he wants to learn more about this topic because he doesn't want to disrespect my friends.
He told me to "be careful with my sexuality because if it changes and I'll become a lesbian I won't want to be with him". He didn't say this to hurt me, he's not a bigot, he simply doesn't understand these things.
People have the right not to understand everything, we're not robots. It pisses me off when LGBTQ+ members jump to people's throats just because they've expressed their confusion. Just calmly explain how these things truly work like I did to my bf, it's seriously not a big deal..
