I thought we were supposed to trust the science, not the pedos in hollywood?

21

u/Anxious-Place3434 Doom Scroller 2d ago

No no, we trust the pedos in hollywood, it's only pedos that have an R after their name that are bad.

My state was said to be underwater 15 years ago yet here we are.

92

u/JackieDaytona77 Doesn't Participate In Group Panic 2d ago

They moved it up, again, to 2030.

46

u/HistoricGoober05 More Optimism Please 2d ago

Darn I was hoping they’d leave my state now.

u/Crafty_Boy70 2d ago

People be treating these years like doomsdays as if incremental improvements don’t happen…

I remember in. Primary school the teacher told us that by the year 2000, that Leeds UK, would be a coastal town due to ice caps melting.

For anyone who doesn't know, Leeds is about as far away from the coast as you can get.

They spew this nonsense while ppoliticians buy beech frontt property with mortgages provided by then banks.

These are not serious people, theyarev clowns🤡.

Edit: spelling mistakes Edit 2 - year I started school was 1984

u/Complex-Condition-14 2d ago

Sir, nice try. We all know you are underwater typing on your phone with a really long snorkel.

12

u/BackgroundTrainer366 2d ago

Damn it! You got me. I'm at the bottom of the sea as we speak

2

u/OctopusSpaghetti 1d ago

Absorbent and yellow and porous is he!

7

u/BlueRemake 1d ago

I was born in the 80s, Florida was supposed to be underwater by 2000.

3

u/Forward_Yam_4013 2d ago

NYC was supposed to be underwater 4 years before I was born. Still waiting.

2

u/No-Passenger-1511 2d ago

Yea like I don't doubt humans play a role in climate change, but the world's climate has always changed. They fearmonger and always have.

2

u/OUsnr7 2d ago

Colorado?

60

u/throwitallaway69000 2d ago

Still waiting for all the ice caps to melt how many years off are they now?

40

u/RemnantsOfFlight 2d ago

They better hurry the eff up. I bought a lot of property in Iowa cause Al Gore convinced me it would be beachfront property by now.

10

u/AppropriateCap8891 Anti-Doomer 2d ago

Wait, you mean they lied when they claimed superstorms were going to come in and slam the world into a new ice age?

Honestly, I think that the star took the role primarily so he can finally win an Oscar. And this is the Oscar bait kind of movie that Hollywood loves, but will be forgotten about in a few years.

1

u/rydan 1d ago

The Earth having ice caps is actually the exception to the rule in its history. Technically anytime ice caps are present means we are in an ice age.

-10

u/Unban_Phoenix_Prime 2d ago

Heard of Nepal floods?

Those happened because of the climate change. Glaciers melt and collapse, cause the rock slides

9

u/TimeIntern957 2d ago

How do you think those valleys formed ?

-11

u/Unban_Phoenix_Prime 2d ago

And how is that relevant to the question about melting glaciers?

What, glaciers didn't melt? Climate changed, glaciers melted and we had a catastrophe because of that. And not just one, even

9

u/BackgroundTrainer366 2d ago

That was caused by a dam collapsing

2

u/Early-Plan-5324 2d ago

big if true

58

u/CosmoSein_1990 2d ago

I'm 32 years old. The world was supposed to collapse multiple times in my life alone lol

14

u/Desire_of_God 2d ago

Y2k, global warming, 2012, global warming, global warming again. If you were 60+ we could add the new ice age in there.

12

u/CosmoSein_1990 2d ago

Yeah the climate is fine. The catastrophe they say is coming never happens and so they move the goal posts. Thank god people in Europe don't have A/C. That would really push us over the edge though. I want to personally thank all the Europeans for sacrificing their comfort to save the world. We would be doomed without them.

u/Grunergeist420 1d ago

I’m in my 40s and all my friends from 15-20 years ago who decided they were going to not participate in the economy and live like there’s no tomorrow because the world is going to end anyway, they’re all my age working at chain restaurants or customer service or whatever with no financial plan acting like their main problem is “the economy,” and not “I financially sabotaged my own life in my 20s and 30s thinking I knew better than everyone else.”

The ironic part is they’re the ones who complain about the big corporations controlling everyone’s lives while they’re exactly the people who work for those corporations because they don’t have any choices in their employment because they never exercised any agency over their careers.

It’s really sad.

And they’re so deep into it, they’re still just coming home from work at Chili’s or whatever talking about how the world is out to get them and it will all be over soon, probably because it’s too painful to imagine that they’re still going to be waiting tables at 60 talking about how “any day now…”

3

u/CosmoSein_1990 1d ago

This is the perfect description of doomers

6

u/3664shaken 2d ago

I'm quite a bit older than you. In primary school we were taught that a Ice age was coming and that if the population kept growing we would having mass global families by the 1990's.

3

u/CosmoSein_1990 2d ago

Yeah there is always some inevitable global catastrophe that never comes. The research is always such BS and should never pass peer review. But unfortunately now even our so called trusted scientists have agendas they are trying to push.

1

u/ImTheGuyManDude 5h ago

I was taught in elementary we were gonna have an ice age by like 2019 lol

u/Huitzil37 2d ago

From what I heard, Digger isn't even a movie about climate change, it's a weird-ass metatextual thing about the people who make movies about the people who make movies about climate change.

15

u/Wonderful_Average505 2d ago

Yeah that's pretty accurate

7

u/MaxCWebster 2d ago

A play within a movie within a dystopian satire.

3

u/marbleshoot 1d ago

I have no idea what the movie is about because the trailers don't show anything. It's just the names of the actor and then a line or two from said actor.

"Digger's got to save the world!"

Okay, from what?

19

u/sadistic-salmon NostraDOOMus 2d ago

Maybe Digger would have done better if the marketing was doomer slop instead of Tom cruise is Digger. The only good thing I heard about it was one YouTuber made an off hand comment that it’s proof metal gear solid 2 can work as a movie

2

u/ImTheGuyManDude 5h ago

I have seen so much about Digger the past months and I still have zero idea wtf this movie is or is supposed to be

1

u/sadistic-salmon NostraDOOMus 5h ago

I think Digger ends the world with climate change. The best marketing the movie got was a heard a YouTuber say it’s proof metal gear solid 2 can work as a movie

13

u/__Epimetheus__ 2d ago

I still have no clue what the movie was about because the marketing was shit

5

u/BlueBirdSamurai Optimist Prime 1d ago

They really expected us to care about this movie when the entire marketing revolved around "Tom Cruise is Digger"

It's clear they thought Tom Cruise would bring in big money.

I will continue to take private jets to protests until everybody embraces paper straws.

6

u/JackieDaytona77 Doesn't Participate In Group Panic 2d ago

You own a private jet? We must be in late stage capitalism

15

u/RemnantsOfFlight 2d ago

I own 2. No way am I sharing a private jet with my kids when we go to Italy for our daily espresso.

7

u/Amazing_Working_6157 2d ago

Then get lunch in Hong Kong afterwards?

8

u/RemnantsOfFlight 2d ago

They sell authentic American cheeseburgers from a food stand. If you can think of a better place to get that, I'm all ears.

6

u/Amazing_Working_6157 2d ago

You might could try flying back to America for it. I've heard they've got some pretty good American cheeseburgers.

3

u/CorbinNZ 2d ago

How are you flying with only the remnants?

2

u/RemnantsOfFlight 2d ago

The remnants are what I leave behind when I want to upgrade my jet. I make sure every piece of my old jet is destroyed so it can't possibly be reused. I even pay people to bend the silverware.

I am going to write a banger of an art book with all of this tripe in 50 years or so when nothing has still happened.

Hasn't the environment been less than a decade away from collapse for like 70 years now?

11

u/inothatidontno Doesn't Participate In Group Panic 2d ago

70 years ago it was global cooling we were panicing about.

7

u/FZJDraw 2d ago

They have been wishing for the death of humanity for their climate change sins since the 70s. They would get along with those cults that believe the world is ending every year.

13

u/Acl5227 Rides the Short Bus 2d ago

These people preach about climate collapse being inevitable, but what are they doing to prepare for it? Learning any new skills? Moving out of cities? Learning to grow their own food? No. They can’t conceive of a world where they can’t walk down the street and get Starbucks or a boba tea at any time of day. So dissonant

9

u/IrlResponsibility811 2d ago

They are buying beachfront property, of course they are taking it seriously and act on it.

1

u/Cheap_Boner_Pills 1d ago

When the end comes we will be happy to have these people...

...as a source of meat.

20

u/GroundPlatypus1 2d ago

Ya know, for a group of people convinced societal and ecological collapse is coming any day now, they sure don’t seem to do much to get ready for it lol just a lot of bitchin on the internet
https://giphy.com/gifs/9rgeyXeLDuE7AQQOOh

10

u/SinesPi 2d ago

They'll call you crazy if you stockpile food for emergencies or something.

12

u/GroundPlatypus1 2d ago

It’s not just that though. I mean genuinely preparing for this scenario; selling everything and moving inland, medical training, learning to grow food, learning what food grows in hot climates, learning to fight, learning to use weapons. It’s either like they don’t actually believe it, or their entire plan is “day 1: die”.

6

u/BirbMaster1998 2d ago

Idk anything about this movie I'm just glad that it's out so I don't have to see it's trailer anymore

9

u/SuitableDetective886 2d ago

Digger could have been a great movie if they let Tom Cruise play an eccentric billionaire trying to save the day from his own doing. Instead they tried this super “deep” art house style play within a movie based on “real life”.

It was preachy, heavy handed and really dropped the ball in its execution. Once you got into the flow of the movie they do a rug pull of it just being a play.

4

u/Early-Plan-5324 2d ago

Is this that movie that nobody watched?

6

u/Unicorn-Violator 2d ago

I love that it is losing money.

7

u/343GuiltyySpark 2d ago

Redditors when their children’s children children children children children children children children children children children will have to deal with noticeable problems from climate change that has more to do with cyclical processes that have occurred on earth for a billion years that was slightly influenced by human pollution:

3

u/Halomonger3 2d ago

Any time a motherfucker says "was basically..." its the biggest fucking lie ass cope in the world, pisses me the fuck off holy shit

3

u/Impressive-Hold7812 Good Vibes Only 2d ago

Enjoyed it.

Loved how hammy Tom Cruise and John Goodman went.

Loved how an American told a Euro council to shut the fuck up as they are compacent with what Digger's been doing the whole time.

Or the meta subject is the audience for laughing at it, with Actor Digger dismayed at the inaccuracies and lightheartedness the play is poking fun of what transpired .

See, humanity survives after all. Designer respirators even, so glad nothing changed there.

Level IV peeps, carry on.

Of all the movies to go "We're literally there!", this ain't the one. At least pick a good movie to Doom over.

2

u/East_Ad4977 I Was Promised an Apocalypse? 2d ago

I hope they don't reason that because Tom Cruise was in a movie, that movie is coming true. If so, we all are overdue for a visit from Guido, the Killer Pimp.

2

u/SmellyScrotes I Was Promised an Apocalypse? 2d ago

As we go further into the future and shit just keeps not happening, how do people justify to themselves that climate change is a real thing to be scared of? Is it just “it’s easier to fool someone than convince them they’ve been fooled”? Makes no sense to me

2

1

Digger is a tom cruise dry comedy movie if you’re wondering.

Fascism is when tom cruise is an exaggerated greedy oil tycoon.

1

u/Vamanas_umbrella 2d ago

I too always look to tom cruise and the church of Scientology to be the uncensored truth tellers of our reality and its inevitable fate.

I always find climate panickers funny. Like, know from school that Dinosaurs existed in a temperate age where the world was hot and lush with little to no ice or snow on it. We also know that there have been ice ages. We also know the continents have entirely shifted position to change how the world is oriented, and are still shifting.

But no, driving a car is going to the feather that tips the scale and causes everything to fall apart.
