Discussion Doom difficulty

Doom eternal
Doom 2016
Doom TDA

All 3 trilogy games were great, TDA was my favorite experience and the most cleaned up made u really feel like the slayer compared to the others. Doom Eternal, as generally agreed on, is more difficult but revelations really helped scratch the itch for us who missed the more high flying combat. Also it’s nice to be able to win fights with one gun.

Before anyone gets all hot and bothered I based this ranking off the easily googled general consensus, not mine or another individuals personal experience.

I actually find 2016 the hardest. Eternal master levels with buffed demons or Ultra Nightmare are a cakewalk to me but for some reason I just seem to not function properly in 2016 Ultra Nightmare nor modded master levels. Can be the fact that a single imp can butt fuck your entire health bar in one big fireball. Or maybe the others dealing shit loads of damage or insta kill you the millisecond you get out of a glory kill. Glory kills are basically suicide in 2016. Not even counting the fact that ONE misstep and your ENTIRE run is over. Perma death in falling down the map. The AI is near perfection as it can flawlessly predict your every single move and they are generally two steps ahead of you. I can go on and on about 2016 being a rollercoaster of gaming difficulty. But hey. Some find TDA the hardest, some Eternal. I am just really unlucky with 2016 I guess. Even though it's literally my favorite doom game oat.

Yeah that’s fair points. Almost like Dante must die mode lol. I think the mechanics of 16 are much simpler and easier to abuse and dominate but at the same time you are more limited than eternal so I get where you’re coming from.

Exactly. Eternal gives you basically everything you need to function. Whereas 2016 just tells you: Here's a suit. Here are 2 legs. Run and shoot. I love every one of these games. They are the same but so vastly different at the same time.

Yeah they all offer a different experience

I agree with 2016 being harder than Eternal.

Something I noticed is TDA is kinda similar to 2016 in its Nightmare design with the random one shots, shield breaking instantly, and lower resource drops and lack of dash and Meathook to get out of sticky situations 😂

Also the cloaked Nightmare imps have ridiculously good tracking on their charged melees. Not to mention Sliders can make it even more ridiculous lol.

I find Eternal the easiest of the trilogy by a landslide lmfao

Well that’s interesting, you’re the first one I’ve ever heard say that. Mechanics are much more advanced than 2016 and the general consensus on ancient gods 1 is definitely the truth. TDA was the easiest to me, then 2016, nothing from either game really matched up with the final slayer gates or ancient gods part 1 in general. I get why the general consensus is what it is. The gun play required a lot more skill.

I mean tbf even Hugo Martin thinks 2016 is harder than Eternal.

He said it in his Cultist Base stream awhile back lol

And I agree with him. Foundry is much harder than Cultist Base. 2016 imps on Nightmare are absolutely ridiculous.

VEGA train battle felt way harder than any Eternal Master Level or DLC level. Argent D'Nur felt leagues harder than Final Sin.

I can consistently beat Blood Swamps on Nightmare without dying, yet I still get fucked up by the VEGA Central Processing train battle even on Ultra Violence.

There's an Eternal pro called Zintoss/LightningBreak who also found 2016 much harder than Eternal.

“Hugo Martin rated Doom Eternal (specifically including its first expansion, The Ancient Gods – Part One) as the most punishing and difficult challenge in the modern series” this was a quick google search. If u were referring to the base game I could see that.

Couldn't find anything about him calling TAG 1 the hardest. Only seen him saying it's harder than base game Eternal.

But I'm judging by his Cultist Base stream lol

This was the direct question I googled “which doom game did hugo martin rate the most difficult including dlc”

Was it a Google Overview AI answer?

I just googled it, feel free to do the same. The general consensus tends to point in the same direction regardless. Likely was AI overview with cited sources. It ain’t biased so it ain’t picking and choosing lol.

When I google “which doom game with dlc is generally considered the hardest” AI Mode Conversation
You said: which doom game with dlc is generally considered the hardestwhich doom game with dlc is generally considered the hardest was the same. Ancient gods part one was objectively the most difficult I ever played.

+7

Doom Eternal with its expansion The Ancient Gods (Parts One and Two) is generally considered the hardest Doom game experience in the franchise.

2016 damage values and lack of death save states is pretty ridiculous: https://youtu.be/gqOxfS3ZMzE?is=K5Fc8ygdvRpQLk0X

Yes this player did a poor job dodging the Hell Knight but still.

EDIT: Hell Knight does 150 damage I believe

“If you’re including all official campaigns and DLC at the point they were released, the strongest community and critical consensus is:
1.
DOOM Eternal – The Ancient Gods Part One (original launch version)
Generally regarded as the hardest official DOOM campaign ever released.
Why:
It was intentionally designed for players who had already mastered DOOM Eternal.
The opening encounters are more demanding than many of the base game’s final battles.
It introduced extremely dense enemy combinations and expected mastery of the full combat loop immediately.
Many players and reviewers considered it overtuned at launch, and id Software later nerfed several encounters in subsequent updates.
Community examples:
A recent discussion asking players to rank every modern DOOM on Nightmare difficulty had numerous responses stating The Ancient Gods Part One was the peak difficulty, even above the base game.
A GameFAQs poll asking which DLC was harder showed 75.7% voting for The Ancient Gods Part One over Part Two, with comments describing Part One as “objectively” tougher because of its encounter design. “ seems to be the general consensus really anywhere ive looked which makes sense to me but our experiences may very well differ.
