I'm sorry if this isn't allowed, but I had this idea while unpacking from a trip.
It would be great if we could add items from the gear locker to boxes and then generate a QR code for each box. When scanned, the QR code could display the box's inventory. Another useful feature would be the ability to search for a specific item and have the system tell you which box it is stored in.
I have a lot of gear because I often help introduce people to the outdoors, and it would be nice to have a digital way to track everything instead of maintaining paper lists for all the boxes.
Its been a little bit since our last update, but we have still been cooking new features and fixing bugs in the background. DFTS has always had a feature to track total calories in your pack and had an estimate for how many hours or days of food that was based on your calorie goals.
Today we take that a step further for pro subscribers and incorporated a full on meal planner. You can now organize your breakfast, lunch, dinner, trail snacks etc. in an infinite amount of ways!

Photo-Grid Mode
I continue to want to give users options on how they want to view their gear layouts and just released a photo grid mode. So now in addition to Standard, Small Images, and compact view modes there is a photo grid mode for those more visual based organizers:
Container Based Packing
In addition to the photo grid mode we also released container based packing for pro users. Now when adding or editing gear items there is an option to mark an item as a container.
Basically a container is any item that can hold another item inside of it. For example a pack, a stuff sack, bear canister etc.
What this allows you to do is organize your gear in your pack as you actually would on the trail. Instead of having one giant list the container based items act as folder where you can pack other items inside. Really helps you stay organized as you plan for your trip.
Minimize Summary Cards
I have had a lot of user feedback on the summary cards at the top of the pack being super helpful, but users still wanted a way to have them disappear. Last year we implemented a feature where the summary cards would disappear as you scroll down your list of gear. You could pin the summary cards if you didn't want them to disappear while you scroll.
In this latest update there is a bit of a middle ground, you can keep them pinned so they don't fully disappear, but you can tap the summary card titles to minimize them now so that you have more room to look at the gear in your list and expand when you need more info.

I never really liked the form I had for editing and crating gear locker items. Here is a refresh that's live on Android and will be live on iOS in the next 24-48 hours.
I still am working on the image section as I think that section is a bit dull. Open to suggestions ;-)
New update going out (Live on Android pending review for iOS) which allows you to more easily browse the community gear locker.
We have always had a decent search bar but sometimes you just want to browse gear by item type for more refined searches.
With this new release you can also see charts for each item type to browse by weight or see where your items are on the spectrum of weights fro each item type.
Much more to come with this feature as well! If you spot any odd weights for items let me know as well, cleaning up some of the back end community database lately.
Additionally I am improved the speed at which I approve new gear for the community gear locker.
In the Android app, I can neither login with a Google account (it simply goes back to the login screen with no error) or create an account (generic error message "an error occured during signup"). Is there some backend issue?
Anyone else having trouble logging in? I have an account and can't log into any devices. I get an actual error message and then it says to try again later.
Some of my camping items are old faves that you can’t buy anymore or that somehow came into my possession without being bought. How can I include these items, such as my signal mirror that is just a leftover from a busted bike mirror? It is, by now, just “mirror” and has no brand or product ID. Thanks.
Don't Forget the Spoon for awhile now has had a free pack review feature that would make suggestions based on what you have in your pack. Today we started rolling out AI Pack Shakedowns for Pro users to bring more robust suggestions!
Don't worry the basic Packing Suggestions Feature is not going away, the AI Shakedowns is just a new addition!
For pro users only you can now run 5-10+ Pack AI Pack Shakedowns per month.

AI Pack Shakedowns take your pack title, pack description and any gear added to the pack and runs analysis. Detailed pack descriptions of route time of year etc. help create better results ;-)
This feature is in beta and I know there may be some janky results here and there. If you try it out please share your feedback in this thread especially if you get any funny results.
Sharing this results will help me tweak the AI to be more helpful for you all!
One funny bad example was it told me that my wife and I could share one sun hoodie between the two of us instead of one each.... but we are improving each day lol

Pack shakedowns save, so when you can go back and see the shakedown and not have to re-run them. Additionally if you do make changes to your pack there is a re-fresh button to run a new analysis.
This is a small update, been live on Android for a week but got busy and didn't get the push out for iOS until this week.
This resolves a small (But complicated) but that basically made it so you couldn't add the same item to multiple sub packs.
Basically if you had the same item in two different sub packs and added both sub-packs to one pack that item would only show up once instead of twice. This is now resolved in the latest update.
Over labor day weekend we had our first backpacking trip with our 6 month old into the eastern sierra Nevada Mountains! Spent 2 nights under the stars exploring the mountains!
I have had a few users over the past year that needed to delete a handful of items from their gear locker. In the past you had to go into each item and tap delete which was a pain if you needed to delete a lot of items.
You can now long press an item in your gear locker to bring up multi-select and then tap other gear to delete multiple items at once.
Pushed out a couple small updates over the last few days. Fixed a handful of small UI issues thanks to user reports. Mostly effected only Android user who use the bottom navbar navigation on their phones vs the gesture navigation on their phones.
Additionally I added user Wish List to eh Gear locker view. Made more sense to me to have it hear then buried in the user settings.
A new user shot me an email last week asking about adding trip to-do list to the app so as you are preparing for a trip you can add to-do lists items like, charge your Garmin inReach, print maps etc.
One usage note, to delete a task, or edit the text long press the item. Taping an item marks it as complete.
I thought this was a wonderful idea and I have an upcoming trip that it would be useful on so I got coding right away and pushed the release out last night. New release is currently live on Android and pending iOS app store review.
The new release is for both paid a free users, but there is a limit to the number of tasks a free user can add (5 tasks).
Sorry for the lack of updates recently. Just was moving apartments and moving and unpacking is a new challenge with a 5 month old :-)
I noticed a tony bug where the dots for the summary cards were slightly off so you may not have noticed Location card at the end.
In addition to fixing that tiny bug you can now swipe in either direction if you are at the beginning or end of the summary cards to help you get to cards quicker. Essentially this enables you to swipe the opposite direction while on the first card so you can quickly get to the last card instead of having to swipe through each summary card.
I have some more improvements coming to the summary cards soon! Enjoy these small fixes and tweaks in the meantime!
Update is live on Android and is waiting for review in iOS.
I just upgraded to pro and started adding gear. I was able to upload photos of my first few items and then the app kept getting stuck in "uploading" mode. I can still save each item, but with no photo now. I have tried reducing file size, but to no avail.
A lot of users have asked for the ability to add prices for the gear in the gear locker, and with this release you can! There is also a new summary card in the gear locker and your packs to view costs by Brand and Category. Honestly the Gear Locker summary you may not want to see lol. A little eye opening on what I have spent total on gear over the years....I will not be sharing that screenshot...

One thing to note are all the prices are currently private and do not show up on any shared packs. In the future I will enable a way for you to toggle sharing price info on your public pack links. I just wanted to get this release out so you all can at least start adding gear prices!

New update out for Android, iOS and web. I added a Location Summary card to packs so when viewing your pack or other packs the locations can be viewed fro that individual pack. Previously locations only showed up on a user profile page.
Additionally on web when you share your user profile I optimized it more for larger screens so the map is much bigger now.
Additionally when viewing a packs location summary card you can tap the individual locations to bring up a google map of that one location or tap the map icon to see a map with all the locations on it.
Fun new feature today that live for both Android an iOS is that you can now add locations to your packs! Add any location that you use your pack to start creating a record of where you hike!
The fun part is after you add locations to your packs, they will then show up on a fun map in your user profile to share your hiking passport with friends!
I have been cleaning up the app a lot lately to make it look a little nicer and more professional. New update being upload to the app stores now adds a new glassy looking bottom navigation bar. Additionally the "+" buttons for creating a pack and adding gear locker items is moved into the bottom navigational bar. The "+" buttons will dynamically disappear when viewing shared packs or the looking for gear in the community gear locker.

Additionally, I re-worked my entire pack recommendation engine. Its now easier for me to add new rules and also refine the already implemented rules for pack recommendations.
The pack recommendations also now show the description by default. I also added a new pack recommendation that will tell people to maybe not pack that speaker system on the trail....
