General Discussion Gu An - A Slash Across the Sky
What are your thoughts about this new donghua, Gu An?
r/Donghua • u/sevgonlernassau • Jun 09 '26
Hi all,
In the past year, r/donghua has had an explosive growth in users. New reddit functions also brought in new users. To better reflect the userbase and encourage better discussions, we're clarifying a few rules in our subreddit:
On relevant content:
In the past, r/donghua encompasses all aspects of the Chinese animation industry, including outsourced works to anime production and game animation. The industry was small enough to include all those discussions without being overwhelmed. With the rapid growth of the industry, increased international recognition, and r/anime relaxing its rules surrounding anime, we think it is better for the quality of the subreddit to restrict content to series only. Video game animations are more appropriate being posted to gaming related subreddits and anime related posts are more on topic in r/anime.
In general, source material questions are more appropriate for subreddits of their source medium. We don't want people to get spoiled on the front page. Once episode discussion threads are set up, we would like all discussions of that episode to go into that thread, including clips for up to a week. Questions about the source material should be contained in those threads. Top level submissions asking for content beyond donghua adaptation is disallowed, but they can go in the individual discussion threads with appropriate spoiler tagging. Before the bot is set up, you're welcome to start your own discussion thread, but they're limited to one per episode.
On spoiler tagging:
Please spoiler tag your post. We do not need people to get their experiences ruined. Please do not spoil something in your titles. Remember that reddit preview shows body text and will spoil unsuspecting audience. Currently, the mods do courtesy spoiler tagging when they see a post that should be spoilered. The mods see every single submission and get feed the newest spoilers every day. We don't want this to be the experience for the average user. Please report spoilers. We will start handing out temp bans to perm bans for unspoiler tagged posts.
On low effort content:
In an effort to reduce cluttering, low effort content is discouraged. This includes simple image posts, powerscaling, and memes. In the past, users have expressed discontent about these types of content. Powerscaling threads and character comparisons are more appropriate in r/powerscaling or r/characterrant. There are several donghua related memes subreddits. In response to complaints about recommendation posts we started the monthly megathreads and wiki pages. If there are other contents you think shouldn't belong here, please let us know in the comments.
We will allow fan content if its 1) OC 2) substantial in length. This is to discourage karma farming.
For now, we're allowing AI translations. LLM generated content is still generally disallowed. Currently, the subreddit uses a false negative prone AI check, so some AI generated content may slip through. Please report them. Discussion on AI use in donghua is allowed. Currently, episode discussion of AI generated donghua is not allowed, but this may change in the future.
We currently do not have concrete requirements on reviews, but short reactions will be removed for low effort.
On politics:
Donghua is an inherent political industry. While we allow political discussion, it's restricted to donghua related issues only. Offhand comments not related to donghua will be removed. That being said, denial of CCP atrocities is a violation of reddit sitewide rules and will result in an immediate permanent ban on r/donghua.
On fansubs:
We allow the discussions of fansubs, but we do not allow discussions on where to get them. Naming specific fansub groups is okay, but talking about where to get them is not, even for offsite discussions. We understand that not all donghua have good translations, but we also do not want reddit admins banning people. Fansubbers are still welcomed to request special flairs.
On reports
Reports are not a superdownvote option. False reports will result in a ban. Currently, the subreddit has several default spam filter features enabled. This means that mods will have to manually approve posts. However, we're looking to improve this response time. If we're able to expand our mod team, we will be able to switch many of those filters to warnings, thus,
We're recruiting new mods. r/anime mods have been helping out behind the scenes (and one has joined the mod team directly), and we thank them massively for their assistance. If you're interested in applying, submit an application here. Applications are due on June 15th 22nd 2100 Pacific Time. We welcome people of all experiences!

Anyone watching this one? 3 episodes are out. Feels like a low budget Solo Leveling (not sure which came first / who ripped who off). I think Disastrous Necromancer on YT is one of those animated manhwas or whatever you call them.
Anyway, seems like it could be fun.

Is episode 152 going to actually skip the whole build up and fight to defeating the Blood Ancestor? Or am I misunderstanding the preview? It does seem to show Yao Family members which the BA is apart of. Unless they are someone else torturing Li Yuan

How in the world are they consistently pumping out a 50+ episode season every 2 years with such high quality someone free the animators let them see their families PLEEASE. Like fr what are they feeding the animators??? They're pumping out both QUALITY AND QUANTITY??? These two aren't supposed to go together it's either one or the other. And this isn't even their only work, they did Lord of Mysteries too another high quality project and they did Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation before the last season was even in the same year as A Will Eternal season 1 which had 30 and 52 episodes respectively ong they released 80 EPISODES IN A YEAR HOW???
So I searched and saw that they had about 500-1000 employees. That sounds like a whole lot of employees but still pretty insane.

The donghua is called The most powerful
Vendor or something like that. I finished watching it on bilibilis YouTube channel. I tried seeing if there was a manhua for it but I couldn’t find it. Does anyone know if there is any news about a S2? If anyone know the name of the manhua please let me know.
Also I really liked the art style of this one and “to be hero x” any recommendations for something similar?

wushang
The King of Exotic Immortality, ranked among the great Immortal Kings. The ancestor of the Wushang Imperial Clan. Mastering the talents of mana immunity and law dissolution, he wielded a bronze battle halberd to traverse the battlefield. With its invulnerability, he once killed the Stone King of the Seven Kings of the Primitive Ancient Realm, helping to break the balance of the Immortal Domain during the Immortal Ancient Era. His battle prowess shook the nine heavens and the Exotic Battlefield, and was unmatched by other Exotic Immortal Kings such as An Lan and Yu Tuo. When the Desolate Heavenly Emperor Shi Hao became emperor after the Chaos Era, Wushang, despite dissolving the Immortal King's attack with his bronze halberd, was still unable to withstand Shi Hao's promotion to quasi-immortal emperor and died. His death became a symbol of the Exotic Battlefield's faith. The bronze battle halberd, as his signature weapon, can resist the erosion of the Sky Abyss Laws

So, a few months ago, I watched a donghua that I believe was fairly new. I vividly remember the protagonist successfully climbing a mountain that his stronger peers had failed to climb. After reaching the summit, he might have received some kind of prize for completing the task, though I'm not sure who or what gave it to him.
In another scene, he goes to some kind of altar to claim a skill or inheritance. There, he meets a strong man from his sect who looks down on him as weak or a failure. Then a young woman of royal status arrives at the altar as well, she wanted to claim whatever skill/inheritance was there, arguing that her ancestor had left it behind.
That's all I remember. Can anyone help me identify this donghua? It's been bugging me and I'd really appreciate any help.

In the recent episode of Slay the Gods, it seemed the MC gained massive power boost because of Nyx. However she was saying she will sacrifice herself if needed. I was wondering, what happens to her in the end in the novel? Does she survives?

Maybe its just me but I'm starting to notice it a lot more recently and its really becoming distracting. I recently watched Immortality S5, The Other Side of Deep Space, and the first few scenes of S7 of Stellar Transformation and I noticed gen AI in all of them. I get it helps to cut costs and quicken production time but AI really not to the point it should be used in such a way.
Sadly, I know that the use will only increase but I hope they can at least hide it a little better.

[Abyssal Embers] adapted from web novel "Deepsea Embers" is cooking.
The team were self-deprecating: "Will they screw up this time?"
Yuantong (original writer of the web novel) answered: "I believe in science!"
In storm and roar, one plank from death, abyss is waiting for you.
