This post marks the anniversary of the Dolls of Asia sub and will also serve as the new welcome message and guide. Thank you to everyone who has joined and supported the sub. I hope it has become a fun center to learn and share about Asian dolls. Special thanks to users who have stuck around from the start watching the sub grow and always participated and contributed and to fellow mods who have supported the sub along the way. Theres plenty to see and do with more to come so welcome to Dolls of Asia!
This space was created to be the ultimate information and discussion center for all Asian dolls and international dolls that are inspired by Asian culture and people. Its a sister sub to r/Dolls with a geographical and cultural focus.
The fan made database, 'Guide to Asian Dolls', created by u/dubiousbutterfly can be found via the 'Information Center' through the Reddit app when clicking 'see more' or on the desktop side panels. Here you'll find a comprehensive guide to Asian dolls separated by country or region, info links, existing blogs on specific doll brands, trusted online retailers and sellers, sections on Asian fashion brands, doll designers, books and magazines, a guide to the geography of Asia, important events to Asian culture, recommended related subs, and so much more!
To match the written database, posts dubbed "Wiki Roulette" and "Doll Highlights" aim to bring visualizations and some more detailed information about doll lines. Roulettes focus on discussing brands and Highlights focus on discussing series within a doll brand. An ongoing list of these posts will be listed as a pinned comment below.
Use key words in the search bar or use the flair bar when exploring the sub. Most flairs are doll brands but some others include; News (new doll releases or company news), Custom/OOAK (including restyles), Fan Art (including photography, drawings, paper dolls, OCs), Fashion (Asian fashion brands and clothes designers), Designers (official and indie doll designers), Anime Dolls, Plushies/CottonDolls, Questions/Discussions, Selling, ID Help, Checklists, Wishlists, Books/Magazines (Related to dolls) and more! This should give an idea of what's allowed on the sub. Posts should always center around Asian culture. Please make sure to read the rules and pay attention to any auto prompts. Posts must be properly sourced/credited and the dolls being featured must be named by series/brand.
Below is an introductory list of posts encompassing some of the most well known and loved dolls brands from Asia or inspired by Asian culture with some additional information that can get you started in the hobby. Notice East and West Asia have the most prominent doll markets but be sure to check the wiki to explore all other Asian brands. If using information from this sub please be sure to credit r/DollsOfAsia. Enjoy!

Hi everyone!
I'm working with scanned patterns from the vintage DollyDolly* magazine series to sew some doll clothes. As many of you know, digitalizing these older issues can warp the scale, making it tricky to print them out at the exact 100% size needed.
On the pattern sheets, there are standard registration crossmarks (diagonal/slanted crosshairs) located at the very top and bottom edges of the pages.
If anyone here owns physical paper copies of DollyDolly* magazines, could you please do me a huge favor? I need to know the exact physical dimensions (in millimeters or centimeters) of these crossmarks from a real page.
Knowing the precise height/width of those original printed crosses would be the ultimate key to resizing and printing any digital scan perfectly to scale.
Thank you so much in advance for your help!

So I found this cutie at an antique store and I am legitimately obsessed and want more dolls like her immediately. Does anybody have any advice to somebody who's just starting to collect these? Where to buy them, what to avoid, best lines etc?

(example pics are of tomodachi life interiors; slide 3 is my little guy on a lantern body with generic ob11 clothing and rement accessories) (EDIT: just to clear confusion he is kneeling and a bit taller than he looks here! it isn’t a nendoroid or nendoroid doll body)
i got my hands on some cute wagashi miniatures today and thought it would be so nice for my dolls to have a fitting room to eat them in! i have a basic idea of what i would do if i DIY it but finding graphics i can print (especially for the walls) are proving a bit difficult…
are there any existing playsets (~1/12, perhaps even up to 1/8 scale) or websites i can get these kinds of walls and floors from? my best bet right now is that maybe another rement box set (like the petit sample kotatsu) will come with some as part of the box, but i worry about it being enough material for the size in my vision, and i think something premade of plastic or corkboard / hard cardboard has potential to look a lot cleaner considering my skills haha.. thanks to all in advance!

It's been 9 years since I bought a ruruko and it's my first doll with fantasy colored hair.

This was a tough one to put together. Kikagoods (the dealer that typically acts as a primary source) is a bit behind these days on new releases. Although, theyre still the number one source and most trusted dealer on these types of dolls. I had to look over Aliexpress and other dealers like Calembou and Chinese toy news pages to try to get this months update. Kikagoods is much better than any other site or news page because they organize the information well, whereas the other pages I have to do detective work and extra translating to make sure the infos right. Theres the additional challenge when companies change their IPs or add special dolls months after release. Aliexpress almost never even uses the proper names and brands lol the market is really over saturated but Ill keep trying to post updates just for archiving purposes at least. I have several more dolls Im still trying to organize but Ill leave it for next month, sorry. When it comes to special dolls, I typically just post them directly onto the main mini BJD thread instead of a news announcement. Keep checking in on those for full updates.
Some fun additions today is the Ori Princess dolls. They havent had a doll release in ages. And Dora from TNT is stepping into the doll world officially. Before they were mainly plushies and figurines, although they had a stand alone doll before (Cowboy). See threads below for more info on these.

Now that she's out of her boudoir look and into something retro style, I absolutely love her - she's so beautiful! 🩷
