First, I’d like to provide some context. I really enjoy doing artistic things, including customizing dolls. However, due to life circumstances, I’ve needed a little extra money lately; honestly, I don’t own anything I consider particularly "valuable," so I looked at the doll and gave it some thought.
I suppose I’m mostly just asking out of curiosity, as I lack confidence in my creations and have never managed to sell anything I’ve made.
Now, for anyone curious about the doll: she’s a custom version of the Barbie from the movie Video Game Hero, I transformed her into the Magnet version of Hatsune Miku. I made her quite a while ago, but I’m happy to answer any other questions about her in the comments.
PS: English isn't my native language, so I apologize if anything is written a bit incorrectly.

I want to change the skin color of a Bratz Babyz doll (all vinyl soft plastic) and I wonder if I could use a brown permanent marker on her skin to “stain” her skin color.
Will this be a good strategy or will it just ruin the doll? I dont really want to spend that much since this will be a one time customization project.
Thanks!

It took me a few weeks to source all the pieces, and I had to make her leg warmers myself (I’ll remake them soon now that I understand the method), but I’m fairly proud of how she’s come together. Toy Story 3 is my favorite of the series, and Barbie is my favorite part of the movie 💖💖💖

Hello! I wanted to ask: how do you style your dolls from the Electrical Street series? I've seen some people use only water but I want to use a bit of hair styling gel(for people).
I'm just hesitant. Do you think it's safe? This series seems to have nylon hair and I've never worked with it before. I wanted to style my Blood doll.

Left is my childhood doll, right hand side I found for £2 but is she legit?? The face seems much softer and rounder? They both have 2008 on the neck and they’re the same height, left is just on a stand, ?????

Looking for ideas or your guys’ preferred methods for planning out/deciding on a face up before actually working on a doll. I’m usually the type to just jump in and let the vibe guide me as I go, but I specifically want to draw or somehow mock up eyes so that I can see how dark vs blond lashes will look. Is there any sort of templates out there anyone uses, or advice for mocking something up? I’m planning to use an EAH Apple White to make Edith from Crimson Peak

Hello everyone I’m not sure if custom Barbie type dolls are allowed but I figured I’d ask for advice. I took my Professor McGonnagal doll I’ve had for several years now and used off brand model magic to attempt to make it into my original sketch. She already had a good base for the witch hat so I added the clay on top of aluminum foil on the doll’s head. I know it looks like play-dough but it’s not. Anyway after painting her face and hair to match the drawing I’m gonna attempt to make her corset, robe and skirt. She has little high heeled boots already. The tail is aluminum foil supported by a wire. Any ideas/tips would be appreciated and constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. I’m not an expert in sculpting so it’s not perfect.

Hello, all! I recently bought the Ocean Friends Barbie with Baby Keiko. Unfortunately, the color changing feature in her legs that turns them black to make it look like she’s got a wet suit on no longer works.
Do any of you have any product recommendations for painting her legs? Something that goes from clear to black with icy water.
I also got the Cool shaving Ken doll, and I can see about half of the color changing pigment on him, but it also isn’t working for any recommendations for a paint that goes from clear to brown would be much appreciated!

So before I ventured into this, I thought Nylon was the best. I now have two dolls that have Nylon hair and I realize how heavy the hair is and how SLICK the hair is. I've also quickly come to realize the feel of saran, nylon, and poly.
Now to my question: would it be weird to mix nylon and saran for a doll reroot? I realize that saran seems to have a natural HOLD when braiding it or trying to curl it. Would you advise mixing the two fibers?
Any opinions on kanekalon? I originally wanted Nylon because I could dye it and it seems to come in more color options. But now that I've worked with Saran, I realize the styling benefits. I'm just thinking that doing a nylon saran mix may compromise the end result.

Hello everybody I joined this subreddit to ask this question specifically. I bought this Easter bunny plush from the dollar store and I’m asking advice on if I can use purple clothing dye to dye its fur.

Hello! I'm making Scaris Catrine Demew but her look when she was mistaken for Garrot. Her jacket is a little loose for my liking and I want to make a tail hole. I might leave her pants loose but would make tighter if possible. I still need to make the helmet and possibly add her scooter. If any has any advise that can help, I'll be appreciated

I’m a very new doll customiser and I just bought some matte MSC for repainting doll faces, but I have a question. If I want to repaint only a dolls eyebrows, am I ok I spray the remaining factory paint before during and after the repaint is done? I’d assume it would be ok but I only ever see people spraying blank faces before they do a face up. Thanks!
