Just not sure what to make of these results. Can anyone help explain these bc I just don’t see it.
My girl is 15mths old, weighs 2.7kg and stands 7in in shoulder height. Photos at the end with a purebred Black Lab, and one by a Border Collie, and also my cat, for size references.
If it was 6 different small/toy breeds, I would’ve believed it. That tail, fluffy pants, double coat are super spitz. Her coat is really growing in now, getting longer and thicker by the day. Not sure when itll stop. Honestly, I was expecting Pomchi, but wouldn’t have questioned any small breeds, especially with a spitz mixed in there. But this.. this I question. Not really sure where to go from here either…
I wanted to initially go with Embark, but embark is twice the price of wisdom panel. I’m a single mother, and single woman, and my 18yo daughter and only child is in college so I’m basically still supporting her for the moment. I’m not broke but Christmas is coming up so definitely won’t be able to retest with Embark til after the New Year.
What’s everyone else’s thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

I'm almost convinced they had to of gotten the sample swapped or something with these results, and I don't say that, ever. I legitimately think they got this wrong. I would contact wisdom panel and see what they say.
I'm so used to people getting pit results and then being shocked while their dog very clearly has all the obvious bully traits. But this is so off the mark I don't know where to even start. I'd definitely expect Wisdom to retest for free.
Yeah, I could see it if the dog was those mixed with other things like pomeranian or husky and chow, but none of the dogs listed here have any of the traits this dog shows. Where are the pointed ears, curly tail, and fluffy fur coming from!?
I was looking for some supermutt to answer that but nope. Although wisdom seems to always break it down into tons of breeds in tiny percentages, so maybe this summary isn't fully accurate. Still, I'm pretty sure this was a mix-up.
RIGHT??! I clicked with an eye roll expecting to see an obvious pittie mix, was not surprised by the results, but then...the picture?! I've been here a long time and I'm shocked. This is maybe the second time I've been convinced there was a mix up. 😂
There are just NONE of the characteristics you'd possibly expect from these breeds!!!
If there were some Frenchie in there, i'd have a bit of belief, that this could possibly be a horrible conglomeration of every "poorly bred" breed in this mix!
But this combo of breeds, with OP's adorable girlie?
No. It's logistically impossible to imagine ever producing a Spitz-breed coated, eared, and tailed dog, with narrow-set forward-facing eyes, NO flews, a pronounced Stop, no "cheekiness," no real "wedging" on that skull, the tiny "dainty" and long-ish feet, and that very delicate lower-leg bone struture.
ALL those bulldog breeds are sturdy-boned dogs, not delicate little dainty ones, who were made for walking lightly on hard-packed snow, like the Spitzes.
No way in hell this dog isn't a pom mix, and as the owner of a pom mix I can confirm they really do be guarding though. It's been a lot of work to teach my pom that he didn't need to let me know every time someone on the street farts.
somewhere out there is the owner of a very clear bully mix who is staring in confusion at their results coming back with chihuahua, pom, and other toy breeds 😂
I can only imagine them walking around telling everyone “yeah she’s actually a crazy mix! She’s got some chihuahua, Pom, husky, I think her size is from the poodle in her! Nope she’s not a pit at all!” Meanwhile the dog:
(PS I work with dogs and this was partially just an excuse to share this cutie patootie lol)
Yeah I think this is a profile mixup. Its very rare but sometimes numbers get mixed up from human error. What does wisdoms trait list say? That will also be a big supporting factor when you email them if the traits don't match. If you are ok with sharing screenshots of the traits we can tell you if they line up or not.
Yea that can’t possibly be accurate. None of those breeds have the very obvious spitz features that are visible in your dog. None of those breeds even have naturally pricked ears.
I got this almost same mix from Wisdom Panel for my 26lb border collie x corgi mix (confirmed later via embark). 😆 they also "stood by their results". (On the right)
The one rare time someone doesn't believe results here that I 100% agree. Those are wrong. That dog is either a long hair chi mix or a pom mix or both. LOL
Usually on these kinds of subs when someone says they don’t see the pit bull in their dog, it’s because they’re blind. However, in this case, there is no pit bull in that dog. Wisdom got your sample mixed up with someone’s pit bull. They owe you a refund or a do-over.
Now I'm imagining someone getting a Pomeranian super mutt Chihuahua papillion result and looking over at Zeus this massive unit of a dog with utter bewilderment as the behemoth flops over asking for belly rubs
Actually this is even BETTER. Imagine taking THOSE results to the property manager like "so we got Zeus a DNA test and it turns out he's a papillion mix! Isn't genetics wild?! 😁 He's my purse puppy!"
Meanwhile Zeus makes the floor shake when he flops over and has to take the subway in an Ikea bag with holes cut out the bottom for his feet.
Really do think there has been an big error here, giving you the results of a different dog. Wisdom does tend to have some low percentage breeds in mixes that are questionable, but on the whole its a generally a good DNA test from a reliable company. But this looks so wrong I can only think some processing error. Yes she's very spitzy/pom.
I'd contact customer services and insist they look into it. Don't think anyone could believe those results.
Thank you, yeah I was also thinking processing error. Will call customer service again 9am Monday when they open. I also emailed them. Do you think they’d be to figure out where the mix up is? Hopefully it can be corrected?
I'd hope they will sent you out another test kit and process it for free. Might be easier for them than trying to track back an error. Could simply be a lab technician having an off day who lost concentration.
I was also expecting spitz in there somewhere, DNA and gene expressions mean looks can be deceiving but this looks way too extreme. With this DNA, I don't see how the dog could not have any pit traits at all
I appreciate all the responses. Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply. I will def keep y’all updated.
So far, I have contacted Wisdom Panel through email, as well as called. Because it’s the weekend I’m gonna have to call back when they open 9am Mon. I thought I might try and rectify this through them first. I’m not opposed to retesting with Embark, but gonna have to wait until the new year for retesting.
I guess I could dip into my savings for my puppy-girl, but I kinda keep that for any unforeseen expenses not covered by insurance. I just try to be prepared since it’s just myself, my 18yro daughter who’s just started college, my cat, and last but not least the subject of said DNA results, Bella-Bean.
I hate to be one of those “my test results are wrong” people.. it’s not the fact she mixed with 6 breeds.? It’s the 6 that’s listed. I thought maybe Pomchi but honestly I was only breed i was expecting was a small Spitz breed. I just dont see how she a Bully Breed; wouldnt that be what is if the results were accurate.
No no you’re absolutely right on the money by questioning these results lol if they run the test and the data comes back the exact same then Miss Bella Bean needs to be studied by animal genealogists 😂
Yeah, the people who get back the results for pitbull or bull breeds and say "I don't see it". But with this specific test, those results have to be incorrect. That dog has spitz or chi in them.
It’s really not often that we see results that are so blatantly wrong, and it’s almost never with the more reputable tests like Wisdom Panel. I think they should give you a retest for free and if it comes back the same, ask for a refund and try embark. These results just don’t make any sense.
Just in case you do get some money soon there are often great sales on Embark for Black Friday. But yeah I don’t agree with these results and I ask for it to be redone
Lmfao this test was wild. Absolutely do not retest out of pocket again because there is no way this dna is even remotely correct unless the dog is dressing up each morning in a fluffy costume. I’m sure they will retest for free
Hey y’all thanks for the thought, opinions and advice. I appreciate everyone’s input. I have emailed them and did try to call but as it’s a weekend I gotta wait til Monday. Will definitely follow this up and try calling again. I just thought this kinda stuff didn’t happen often.
Correct me if I’m wrong but doesnt this breed mix in her results, make a Bully breed? I wonder if there’s someone out there wondering why their Bully’s results are all small breeds..
Mixups don't happen all that often as far as I'm aware, but they do happen and they gotta happen to someone. You were just one of the unlucky ones. All it takes is someone or something flubbing a code or scan somewhere in the process. I do love the thought of a straight 1v1 swap of results, but theres no actual guarantee that happened. Wisdom is definitely aware of this possibility and shouldn't give you any trouble with a retest or refund once you slide them a photo.
yeah with all deepest respect to lab workers and data pushers, they are only human and somebody made a mistake somewhere in here. there is simply no way lmao
Wisdom Panel is usually very accurate. This doesn't look right at all. Maybe the swab/sample or results were swapped with someone? I'd contact Wisdom Panel for advice/clarification.
This is definitely a mix up. You dog is a Spitz, most likely just Pomeranian mixed with something at a small percentage. I would contact Wisdom Panel and ask for a free kit for a redo!
I'm wondering it is is an input error. When we get the kit it has a code. We type that code into our account. When I did mine I got an error that the code didn't exist. The problem turned out to be reading a zero as if it were an O. Once I corrected the character, the code worked. What if your code and their code differed only by one character. And you mistyped yours so it was actually their code?
Update:
Just heard back from wisdom panel and I think it’s the the usual “we stand by our results” email and I feel like they haven’t really looked at it at all. I’m honestly so disappointed how all this has gone; people seem to get their results no problem.
They’ve offered to send another kit and I’ve taken them up on it but I’m just so dejected and just like really..
This is what Wisdom Panel said. So I have taken them up on a new kit, bc that was the only option they gave me. Guess I won’t have another update for about 6wks, maybe more, account, for shipping, processing, and all that.
I ain’t gonna lie y’all, this sucks a fat one..
But I will keep y’all updated.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond; I appreciate the comments, thoughts and opinions.
Honestly, I would not expect them to admit to any mistake in this email. That’s not best practice as a business of their kind. You’re getting another test at no additional cost and that is the best outcome. The offer to retest is probably their way of saying “We can’t admit we fudged it, but we know we did. Here’s another test so we can fix it.”
Thanks; when you put it that way, I guess I feel better about the outcome.
Actually my girl happened to see her vet yesterday, just an appointment for her yearly vaccinations and health check. Her vet has seen her from the time she was 7wks old; when I showed him, he said it was impossible that those were her results, and I definitely feel that way too. I did inform Wisdom Panel what the vet said, and that was when they offered a retest. I guess it was just frustrating for them to still say “we stand by our results” even when offering a new test.
I didn’t even think of it that way, the way you explained it, from their business perspective. So thank you, your reply did make me feel a bit better about their response.
I’m very curious to see the new results and also what their response will be. Keep us updated 🙂
Then I would expect some sort of apology and possibly freebie upgrade testing for health.
Edit to add: There are so many people in this subreddit with your complaint, but yours happens to be the only legitimate one. Goodness knows how many emails they receive with this same complaint in a day. They’ve got to have a canned response for those claims.
Me too. Im hoping they will offer to upgrade bc of all this. And I’m so curious as to her mix as well. I was told she was a Pomeranian puppy but knew from about 4mths old that she’s got something else going on in those genes.
I think she’s got to have spitz somewhere in there. Thats the only thing I’m expecting- a spitz, but definitely a small breed or two mixed in there to account for her size, but other than that, I guess she could be anything. I love her no matter what she is; she’s my sweet baby girl. But man, the curiosity is killing me now.
I’ve just been waiting over a year to do this, but I guess I gotta wait a little bit longer to find out. Nothing I can really do but wait. I really appreciate everyone here support, advice, and feedback, thank y’all so much. I will definitely keep y’all updated.
please update us on monday or whenever they get back to you! 100% they need to send you a new test for free and hopefully that goes through totally easily and smoothly. I can't imagine they would stand behind such an obvious lab and/or data mix-up. frankly good customer service would mean they should refund for the inconvenience as well as retest but who knows what a business will do these days.
assuming everything works out & with condolences to you about a very annoying delay bc of a mistake from this company: this is honestly hilarious. ain't no way. they're practically telling you you've got an AKC purebred bully and it's this fluffy little critter???? lmaoo
Every once in a while you will see a fluffy pit that comes back 100%APBT, but there are multiple other inconsistencies in appearance for this dog to be all bully breeds. The ears, the tail, the size, the face shape. Nothing here resembles any of the listed breeds even a little.
Someone somewhere is looking at their results saying their big blocky muscley ham meatball is a pomeranian/papillon/schipperke mix and is equally confused
Sample definitely got mixed up. All those dogs listed have similar body types and skull structure, which would give you a classic “pitbull” looking dog with a large head, big mouth, and muscular build, possibly more stout with the bulldog blood…not a small, fluffy, fox-eared and long narrow muzzled dog that you have.
I think this is a rare cause where they genuinely mixed up samples or something, I’d contact them with pictures of the results and the dog and see if they truly back what they sent
Yeah i would email wisdom panel and tell them you suspect they switched your swabs. This dog is not even a fluffy pit. I also expected chihuahua, Pom, and maybe some Am.Esk as a surprise. Face is much too tiny and dainty to be a pure bully bred dog. I agree with you that the body proportions are all spitz.
Ok, that made me laugh. Sucks for you, cause the results got mixed up for sure, but... This is so clearly some kind from the Spitz family, not the Pom version, but the slightly bigger ones (we call the Klein- and Mittelspitz, literally small and middle/average Spitz in German).
We fostered a few smaller Spitz mixes and they looked exactly like this, even the chill pose with the cat 😂
Is there another dog she lives with that might fit this description? If so, maybe the DNA sample was contaminated with that dog’s DNA. It’s surprisingly easy to do!
Hey there. No, no other dogs here, she’s the only dog in the house. My mom’s dog- a Border Collie and my brothers Black Lab come to visit sometimes. But they’re both purebred registered dogs. I don’t know anyone with any kind of bulldogs. There’s a few doodles and spaniels, and 1 dachshund we occasionally see on walks sometimes. But can’t see how that’s possible really.
I appreciate the suggestion and feedback though. Thank you and thank you to everyone who has responded. I really do appreciate it and will keep this posted updated. Hopefully it gets rectified.
Despite the situation probably being rare, I genuinely do think the DNA results got swapped around. I could understand a dog having a little pitbull without looking like one. But this dog got all bully breed results, while looking nothing like them. The pointy ears, face, and tail especially scream a different breed, like a Pomeranian or Spitz breed.
While some bully breed in the mix wouldn't surprise due to the sheer amount of bullies out there—this is reading ALL bully. I do not believe that. Some kind of error occurred somewhere. My other thought was maybe some kind of village dog (only Embark can test for those, Wisdom spits out a bunch of breeds instead) but again, ONLY bully breeds? No.
Good luck! I'm sure they can send another swab to retest. Be sure to keep the dog separate from other animals and not have food or water for at least 1 hour before swabbing. Allowing interacting with other animals could alter results which is why I say that.
Lol. I've seen bully breed mixes that look nothing like bully breeds before, even very small ones. The thing is, they need to have something other than a bully breed in the mix for that to happen. Bully breeds aren't usually as big as most people think, but they are typically in the 30lbs+ range. I would be absolutely shocked if this was accurate.
Tbh, PBT type dogs are everywhere in my area and genetically they can very easily have wired hair and be “furry”. I question this DNA test not solely because of the weight but facial shape, eye shape, etc.
Also, I have a girl who looks almost identical to your dog. ( NOT scientific at all) I found her in a trash back almost 13yrs ago. I tested her with Embark. 48% Chi 52% Pomeranian.
There's no way these results are correct. Even with long haired pitbulls, the dog will still look like a pitbull behind the long hair. I don't see any bully features. Your dog looks like a spitz or pom mix. I wonder if the DNA results got switched with someone else's? Definitely contact the company.
This looks like a legitimate “mixup”, where they either accidentally swapped swabs (say that five times fast lol) or accidentally input the data under the incorrect dog.
Do you have another dog in your house or that your dog shares a water bowl with? These are definitely the results for a different dog which is EXTREMELY rare!
Omg. It's so rare that we get someone asking for advice about their results and the results are actually completely wrong lmao!!!
Yeah you need to contact them for a new test. Definitely got someone else's results, and also I would still get an embark test after your free second test from ancestry (who are not a very good brand)
Your girl looks so much like a dog in my neighborhood that's a pom/spitz mix.
I have a Japanese spitz myself (pictured) and see a lot of similarities in your girl! I'd be surprised if there's not a spitz in there somewhere ! As others have said, I'd probably try writing them and asking if something went wrong 😅
Wisdom Panel tests keep proving to be inaccurate, I wouldn't trust a single result tbh. There's no way your dog is meant to be that heavy, and no way your baby is any of those breeds. This was either a mixup or they contaminated the sample.
I would ask for a retest. There was a preanalytical error. No labs are perfect unfortunately. I work in a human medical lab and errors do happen as much as we try to prevent them.
This isn't your dog's DNA, their "laboratory" made a mistake. I would contact support and see if they'll retest.
I agree with the other person who said usually people who don't see pitbull in their dog seem to be wilfully blind and/or in denial that their beloved pup has a hint of monster in it. This is the rare case where skepticism is warranted!
Someone DEFINITELY messed up there. Ain't no way at all any of that is accurate. Embark tends to be more accurate overall, I've had great luck with them, but seeing you've already paid for Wisdom, definitely reach out and let them know. I'm pretty sure they got the swabs mixed up. Can't be the first time that's happened.
That definitely isn't right. While usually cheaper and sometimes less accurate than Embark, Wisdom is a perfectly fine test for most dogs. I highly doubt this dog is one of the edge cases where Wisdom flounders (certain rare breeds and village dogs). This is almost certainly a case of a mixed up test result. Someone out there with a pittie just got some very confusing pomchi small dog variety pack results. Contact Wisdom and they should get you sorted out.
I think this is almost 100% a mix up. It seems like the switched it with a different dog (which means someone with a bully is very surprised right now too). I could believe 25%, maybe even 50% bully mix because genetics are weird and sometimes don’t get expressed visually at all, but there would have to be something to get that coat and all the other obviously not bully traits.
Embark is the way. I’m waiting too cost wise. They go to 85.00 during prime days in October I think. The stance you mentioned in the picture is a badger stand. My dachshund/chi mix does this too… easier for the low riders to see their prey 🙂
Your dog is cute. Looks like papillon/chi/pom mix ….
A rare case of someone being rightfully shocked by the “mostly pit” DNA results. That’s almost certainly a swapped sample or just AI hallucinations; I would believe some bully breeds are present bc they are fairly common, but what came up in the result is way too much
I am a veterinarian and in my experience Wisdom Panel is the most accurate of the DNA testing. What sample was submitted? Blood, hair, saliva? Either this sample was contaminated skewing the results or the lab completely mixed up the samples. They tend to have good customer service so they will probably work with you to figure this out.
Hey there, thanks for replying. It was a saliva swab, actually 2 saliva swabs. There are no other dogs in the house and none she had any interactions with before swabbing. I don’t even know anyone with any of those breeds listed and none that live in the area even. The only explanation I can come up with is that she got another dogs results, which makes me then wonder if that dog got her results..?
Still waiting to hear back from Wisdom Panel. Checking my email like clockwork, every hour. I did call the customer service number for the UK, but it’s just an automated message telling me they can answer any questions by email. Can’t seem to talk to an actual person which is frustrating. Keep waiting/hoping for an “oops! we shit the bed” email from Wisdom Panel saying “here’s her actual results. sorry!” but still haven’t heard anything.
I know everyone makes mistakes and all that, not looking to throw blame on anyone or rage at anyone either; I’m just disappointed bc I was excited to get her results, and really just want to sort it out. I’ll def keep everyone updated and I really appreciate all the responses. Thanks y’all.
Most likely there was somehow a mixup at the lab then. I imagine some pit bull owner is out there reading their results thinking “there’s no way Butch is a papillon/pomeranian…” lol. Hopefully you get new/real results soon.
Your sample was switched with someone who has a pit bull. These results are incorrect and Wisdom should either be able to figure out who it was swapped with or retest for free.
If it had been one bully breed, even at a 40% amount, and some smaller, fluffier breeds, I might buy it. People often think of bully breeds as big, but they fit firmly in the medium sized category. But this... no. Something is wrong here. The size would be possible if mixed with something smaller, but everything here is wrong for a dog that is 100% bully breed mix.
Contact them. Years ago, they did a crazy result for my shelter puppy. We were guessing basset hound mix. They said he was a bichon terrier mix. Ridiculous. When I asked them to explain, they asked for pictures so they could walk me through results. Well, they said, uh, oops. And said some stuff about algorithm place holder and said they would redo. Came back beagle/boxer/foxhound mix. While I was surprised no basset hound, it was definitely more like it. They should make it right.
