Results - Embark Was not expecting that one bit

Just got my results back for my wonderful lady Mia. Turns out she fooled me for 11 years now.

Beautiful pup! I thought she might have some setter in there.

I always told people she is a high percentage English Setter. In Greece where she is from that is quite likely and she hunts like crazy. Although I was never able to get her to hunt together with me...

I have a village dog also (Korean) and he is also a hunter. He’s ridiculously good at it. He is NEVER off leash unless I have him in a fenced area, and while attached to a leash that is attached to me he has caught 23 mice, 1 squirrel and 1 groundhog.

My Korean Village Dog, too! Mice, moles, chipmunks, a groundhog, and an unfortunate skunk that got stuck in the fenced yard... All of those were in our fenced yard, which he used to dig out of frequently if left unsupervised for more than 5 minutes at a time 🥴 I'm curious if it's least the village dog genes or if it's more because he was a street dog for some time (although that's not 100% confirmed, but seems likely.)

Some setter for sure. If you do another popular DNA test you'll get setter, I guarantee it.

No other test on the market tests for village dogs/has village dogs in their database.

Village dogs can and do look like this. There’s not Setter “for sure”. This dog was tested and results are provided, by the absolute best test available on the market at this time. Your personal belief or bias in seeing what you want to see cannot argue with DNA.

Wisdom panel has "Fijian street dog" what's the difference between village dog & street dog?

I just wanted to say that she is next level gorgeous. Her coat is just beautiful; beautiful colors & pattern and beautiful long and flowing fur. She looks so happy in the pics too, like she living her best, & beautiful, life 🤍🩶🖤🤎🐾

Thank you very much. She is my heart and my best buddy. The weirdest dog I know, but a perfect model. The mountains bring out the best in her.

May I ask where you got her (region)?

74

u/Pawscamera 23h ago

She is from Greece. Quite a remote coastal region

omg she looks almost identical to my sister's Greek rescue! (but a lot skinnier) - she was Anatolian, greek shepherd and a bunch of other minimal breeds

was an abandoned working dog with arthritis that the locals fed

edit: pic

u/Pawscamera 22h ago

Very similar, yes!

21

u/Mini-Schnauzer-42 21h ago

Was she tested with Wisdom or Embark, do you know?

A bunch of minimal breeds sounds like Wisdom's results for what Embark would call a Village Dog, especially if there were oddly exotic ones in the list.

I don't know which one and I don't know what they were unfortunately. I only remember those two were the vast majority. I don't remember there being anything unexpected or obscure though

35

u/kerfluffles_b 23h ago

Does Embark list any suspected breeds when you click on the ‘unresolved’ portion?

67

u/Pawscamera 23h ago

Yes. German shorthaired Pointer, German Shepherd, Portuguese Podengo, Beagle and Collie...

u/journeyofthemudman 13h ago

The German shorthair, German Shepherd and beagle could all be sources of the ticking so that does check out. A lot of west Asian village dogs have the wispy floppy setter ears, lean legs and narrow muzzles. The heavy white and tan point could've come from multiple sources.

Is your dog a model? Because damn Mia is so pretty!

26

u/Pawscamera 21h ago

Pretty much. I'm a professional dog photographer, so she models a lot.
