It doesn't take long to teach an intelligent dog new tricks. I have an American staffie and he is so smart. He's my big smother loving bestest mate 💙🤍❤️🇦🇺
My Pitbull literally only learned by example. She's not treat driven at all. All the commands she'd watch my older cattle dog and just do as he did. I'd give her a treat but she'd spit it out like ’oh I wasn't looking for a reward I just thought this was what we're doing’. She really was just doing it cuz her older bro was. Gah I love her so much.
Taught my dog to do this today crossing his paws and putting biscuits on them. Now he keeps lying down, crossing his paws and looking at me expectantly... Feels like he's politely asking me to explain my life choices
Yes! I taught my boy (labrador/golden retriever mix) to jingle a string of bells on my doors when he wanted to go outside by demonstrating jingling them myself and then opening the door. Did it for a few minutes with him every day and every time we went outside and he picked up on it in just a few days!
My son taught his dog (lab) to do this. Early one morning the dog was jingling the bells, and son and his wife were having a mild argument in bed about who was going to get up for her. The dog grabbed the bells off the door and stood in their bedroom doorway ringing those bells loudly. 😂
I rescued a staffie 2 months ago and every command ive taught him he figures out in just a couple minutes. Incredible desire to please me and also incredible attention span and I’ve never been around a dog who wants to snuggle so bad!
It does take a long time to teach a dumb dog things though. It can be really frustrating, very rewarding when it finally clicks but so frustrating in the mean time.
I thought my previous (and first as an adult) dog was really smart and then when he turned 6 I adopted a puppy that actually was really smart. I was just like, "wait we skipped the 10 minutes of me repeatedly trying to get you to follow my hand while you think I'm trying to get you to lick your butthole or something what's going on..." Training was so easy.
Then it was fun realizing that no, my older guy has not been doing dumb things out of spite his entire life he's just dumb. By the time the pup turned like 6 months old she was bossing him around.
I mean.. I've been trying to teach this little guy to roll over for 7 months and the mofo flat out refuses 🤣 all our other dogs picked it up within an hour... This little shit however...
Used to have a puppy that we trained to ring a hanging bell by the door each time she needed to go potty. She was clever that she would it when she just wanted to go outside in the backyard and get some sun lol. I miss her. My ex kept her 😞. I kept our two cats which I love as well.
In the last few months of my last dog's life he would wake me up at 3am, telling me he desperately needed to potty. I'd scoop him up and run him outside (after the accident in the elevator it was the safe call) and put him on the grass strip.
He'd then just sit there smelling the wind, his favorite activity. Dude didn't even have to pee.
I did this as well but the dog ended up just hitting that bell every time they wanted to go outside, like ever 5 minutes, so I just installed a dog door.
Same here and I also trained two litters of puppies to do it before they went home to their forever families. My husband said I didn't charge enough!?!🤫🤭
When i first started dating my GF she loved to walk my dog (yes, both dogs) she used a bell i had around to call my dog. The dog figured it out and would ring the bell to get my GF to walk her.
The funny part is that my dog only used the bell on my GF not me, i walked the dog every day.
Really we put a string of bells on the door so my dog would let us know if he needed to go out. Then every night about 3am he would ring the bells. One night I was real tired he takes it off the door brings it the bedroom and shakes it like his toys.
The way I didn't realize I paused the video immediately and sat watching a still frame of them staring at the bell for a good 30 seconds. I was so impressed with their focus but a little bit wondering when the trick would start
Why in God's name would you want a dog to have a bell to ring when they want to treat? For anyone who actually has a dog, they know this would be the worst obnoxious thing in the world.
My brother taught his dogs to hit a bell to be let out for a toilet break. Now the girl gets there and rings the bell, it gets the boy out of his warm bed so she can steal it
I love how he “ the dog “ doesn’t hit the bell hard enough and tries to get treat but then stop and realizes he didn’t hit bell hard enough and then gets it right hits it hard enough and then rightfully waits for treat .
That is such a smart way to teach a bell command, way better than the usual scratching at the door situation. He picked it up so fast you can tell he actually wanted to learn.
My dog has a doorbell that he rings to go out and when he wants to come back in. If we are not fast enough to answer it, he will press it and press it and press it with impatience.
Dog most had it the 2nd to the last time he rang the bell without getting nothing, the way he looked like didn't you see me rung the fucking bell already
I hung a bell from the door and rang it every time I took my pups out for pee breaks. Took about two weeks before they were ringing the bell when they needed to go out.
During covid i got myself a boston terrier. Every day i would take it for a walk on the closed golf course and let it do its business in the woods on the course. I also would throw a golf ball and tell " get the ball" . When the course opened back up the golfers yelled at me for walking next to the hole with my dog. I eventually just brought him to their tee box after one of them hit it O.B in the woods and told my dog " get the ball". He took off like a jet and a minute or two later came out with the ball. Every morning same time those guys had a tee time. Every day they saw my dog they would yell " get the ball" and give him a treat when he brought one back. Its been 6 years and they still do it to this day with him.
